Before I start going on about the making of this coat, I´d like to thank you for all the suggestions and the good wishes you left me in the muslin entry. Thanks for the help!

Ha sido muy interesante coser este abrigo, porque siempre evito las telas gruesas. No me entran bajo el pisatelas, hacer ojales es misión imposible...siempre que lo he intentado ha quedado un churro. Pero esta vez me he aplicado:
-Me he hinchado de hilvanar, es que lo he hilvanado TO-DO!
-He leido muchos tutoriales, luego os dejo los enlaces.
-He constatado que planchar costuras con un pañito entre la plancha y la tela es un engorro necesario. Pero engorro.

It´s been very interesting. I always avoid sewing thick fabric. My presser-foot doesn´t like it, specially if I want to make button holes. This time I put a lot of effort into it:
-I basted, E-VE-RY-THING!
-I read lots of tutorials, some of them very useful (I´ll leave the links later)
-I realize how important it is to iron with a cloth. And what a pain in the bum, too!

Este adorable abrigo es de la diseñadora Gabrielle Strehle cuyo trabajo se basa en la pureza, claridad y naturalidad. El abriguito negro para uso diario. Cruzado, levemente acampanado, con costuras laterales perfectamente formadas y clasicas mangas de dos piezas. Los bolsillos de plastrón con solapas redondeadas son una adorable adición.

Tallas: 36-44

¿Una vez terminado, se parece a la foto de la revista? Idéntico

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles de seguir?  Pues sí. Sorprendentemente buenas. Las seguí al dedillo excepto los ojales. Ah y las mangas. No usé el método de fruncir la copa porque no me sale bien, lo hice así, con los alfileres y despues hilvanando antes de coser.

¿Que te gustó o disgustó del patrón? Lo que más me gustaron fueron las lineas sencillas, la doble botonadura (me recuerda a un abrigo marinero), el largo, las mangas. Me encanta el cuello y si hay alguna cosa que cambiaría son los bolsillos, por unos ribeteados en lugar de parche.



Material: Género esponjoso de lana ( y poliester) algodon para el forro. Vivo para ribetear los bolsillos, botones.

Cambios efectuados en el patrón o diseño: Solo he cambiado los ojales normales por ribeteados. Me ha divertido mucho aprender esta técnica y he usado el método de Coletterie. Me convenció, por que cortaba los cuadraditos para formar el ribete al biés, y al estirarlo con la plancha abultaba menos. Muy bueno.

El ribete del bolsillo no lo pedía, pero por pasadas experiencias tenia miedo de que asomarra el forro del bolsillo entre tanta negrura.

¿Lo volverías a coser? ¿Lo recomiendas? No lo volvería a coser, porque hay otros que quiero probar, pero sí lo recomiendo de todo corazón.

Conclusión: Se que voy a poner este abrigo un montón. Es cómodo y calentito. Y me lo he pasado pipa cosiendolo.

This lovely coat is from designer Gabriele Strehle who’s work is based on purity, clarity, and 

naturalness. The little black coat for everyday wear. Double-breasted, slightly flared, with perfectly 

shaped section seams and classic two seam sleeves. The patch pockets with rounded flaps make lovely

Pattern Sizing: 36-44

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes, mine is black too.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Surprisingly good for Burda. I followed them religiously except for the button holes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the simple lines, the double brest (reminds me of a sailor coat) the lenght, the sleeves. The collar is quite clever too. It is a two piece collar that looks like it is single. The least favourite feature are the pockets

Fabric Used: Brushed wool (with a percentage of polyester) Cotton for the lining, piping for the pockets and flaps. Buttons

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made bound button-holes and I enjoyed learning how to make them. I used the Coletterie method. I think it is quite smart: The squares for bounding are cut on the bias, then ironed so they are not too bulky. 
I also piped the pockets and the flaps. From previous expeciences I knew the lining was going to show in some places if I didn´t

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I don´t think I´ll sew this again, but I recommend it whole-heartedly 

Conclusion: Love my new coat! I know I´m going to get a lot of wear from it, and most importantly I´ve enjoyed a lot making it!

Dia 4 del retiro . 4th day of my private sewing boot-camp.

FASE 1 - ABRIGO
PHASE 1 - COAT

Yo pensaba que iba a avanzar más rápido pero claro, estamos hablando de la revista Patrones, y eso es mucha tela. Tal y como os contaba en este post , ya desde el principio la cosa no pintaba bien, y todavía llegó a estar mucho peor cuando el cuello del abrigo me llegaba hasta el nacimiento del pelo por detrás, y sobresalía como cuatro dedos de las demás piezas. Las mangas ranglan, al unirlas se quedaban dos dedos por debajo de los costadillos, sigo hablando del cuello.

I thought I was going to be quicker with this sewing challenge that I imposed to myself, but we are talking Patrones Magazine, here. No easy task. From the begining it looked bad, and it went worse when the coat neck edge was up to my hair, other parts were too short, no neck facing to speak of...

Terminé tan harta que no le hice vistas ni nada, forro, una nueva linea para el cuello y terminado. El forro tambien me ha dado la lata, pero ahí no tiene la culpa Patrones, la tengo yo. Despues de coser y descoser un par de veces, ya está listo.

I got so tired of the whole thing I  tried on Roberta and just made a new neckline. I had also my sewing-ripping fit with the lining but only due to my lack of carefulness.

Pero pasará tiempo hasta que me enfrente con otro de estos.
It will take some time until I even consider to tackle one of these again.

FASE 2 - TUNICA

Como estaba bastante desanimada con el proyecto y dado que las mujeres hacemos más de una cosa a la vez, para animarme hice algo fácil, fácil: Vogue 1261 Tunic.
As I was feeling a bit down with the above proyect and as women can multitask easily, to cheer myself up I made something easy: Vogue 1261

Hay tres versiones, yo hice la de arriba derecha. Es muy facil, queda bien y tiene algo diferente, algunas de las costuras van por fuera
From the three versions I chose the one top right. It´s very easy, looks good and has got something particular in the construction, some of the seam allowances are on the outside.

Roberta me ha ayudado mucho estos días y como no tengo nadie que me haga fotos pues ella misma.
Ahora estoy con el vestido de barra de bar...deseadme suerte!
Roberta was helping me so much these past days, and as I have nobody to take my pictures it´s only fair for her to be my model.
Now for the bar counter dress, wish me luck!

Semana costurera por delante. A sewing week ahead of me.

Mañana empieza la semana blanca de mis hijos y marido y se van a ver a la familia y a "disfrutar" del frío. Yo no tengo tanta suerte y me tengo que quedar trabajando. Lo que cambia la vida, ahora somos nosotras las "Rodriguez". En fín, hay que superar lo de la soledad de alguna manera....¡A COSER! Bueno, igual tambien leo algo.

Tomorrow is the first day of my children and husband´s holiday. They´ll be away, enjoying the cold weather as the unluky one (me) who has to work, stays home. As a way to cope with this sad situation I´m planning to sew...What else!

Veamos: primero tengo esta napa sintética, y esta otra tela que voy a usar de forro:
Let´s see: I´ve got this synthetic suede, and the other fabric I´ll be using for lining:

Tenía pensado hacer  Vogue 1268, que pedí hace tiempo, pero investigando por los mundos del blog, por lo visto hay que hacer un montón de ajustes al patrón y yo todavía no doy para eso.
I bought the suede to make Vogue 1268, but some people from blogland have try it and you have to alter the pattern, make a muslin, and I´m not ready for that yet.

Así que me acordé de Patrones 295, 24. Abrigo de piel sintética. Y con eso estoy ahora, solo marcando el patrón llevo un cabreo que no veas, porque te dicen que tienes que cortar las partes de arriba del patrón y unirlas para con ellas cortar las vistas del cuello y no coinciden.¡ Ole mi Patrones!
So I remembered Patrones 295, 24. Synthetic suede coat. I´m only tracing the fabric and already in a fit as the instructions say that you have to cut some parts of the pattern and put them together to "create" the neck  facing, and they don´t fit together!

Como no quiero que la primavera me pille sin nada que estrenar, tambien quiero hacer la versión larga de Very Easy Vogue 8574. Vogue muy facil: un dia y medio como mucho.
I don´t want the Spring to find me with nothing new to wear, so I´ll be making Vogue 8574, the long version. It´s a very easy vogue: day and a half tops.

Esta es la tela que voy a usar. Yo la llamo tela "barra de bar" ¿no parecen marcas de vasos? No tengo ni idea de que genero es, pero tiene mucha caida.
This is the fabric I´m going to use. I call it the "bar counter" fabric. Doesn´t those looks as glass marks on a counter? It has a lovely drape.

No tengo mucha tela así que igual hago la que no tiene mangas pero con el lazo. No lo tengo claro.
I haven´t got too much fabric. I´ll try the sleeveless version plus the big collar.

Yo lo que tendría que estar haciendo es buscar tela y patrón para los vestidos de fiesta de mis hijos, que las comuniones se acercan, pero es que no estoy inspirada para eso todavía.
I should be looking for fabrics and patterns for my children party dresses but I don´t feel very inspired for that yet.

Espero que el abrigo de Patrones no me quite las ganas de coser lo demás porque es que lo estoy viendo, ¿eh?
