Mother-Daughter Coordinates

Todo empezó con la camisa que veis en vuestra derecha. Una monada del H&M que le regalaron a mi niña. Y yo quería una igualita...¿Que suerte saber coser, eh?

Hice una versión de prueba AQUI/HERE En esta solo tuve que mejorar la curva del frente para anudar. El patrón es casero.

It all started with the little shirt on your right. A very cute thing from H&M that my mother-in-law bought for my daughter. I just needed the exact same thing in my size...Such luck to be able to sew sometimes, huh? ;)

I made a first version in white HERE, for this one I only modified the curve of the front. It is a self-made pattern.

La tela es un algodón con cuadritos vichy, a la que le añadí el contraste del cuello en lino color coral, y un detallito "cariñoso" en el bolsillito. Costuras francesas, terminación de las sisas con bies y el bajo con un dobladillo pequeñito.

The fabric is gingham cotton, with a strip of coral linen for the collar stand...and an embroidered little heart in the pocket. French seams, armholes finished with bias strips and a thin hem.

Con el mismo lino del contraste del cuello hice una falda...seguro que habeis visto este modelo un montón de veces. Es VOGUE 1247, la he alargado 10 cm, como la última vez que la hice AQUI/HERE. Seguro que me hago una de invierno porque sienta superbien y necesita poquita tela.

With the same linen I used on the collar contrast, I made the most famous skirt in the blogosphere: VOGUE 1247

I made it 10 cm. longer like the last one I made AQUI/HERE. I have to remember to make a winter version of this one, because it is so flattering, and comfy and, very importantly, it doesn´t need a lot of fabric!!

Fuí buscando más lino en coral para hacer unos shorts a mi hija, para ir conjuntadas, y no lo encontré...peeeero, había un algodón finito, con plumeti que en cualquier ocasión hubiera usado para hacerme un top...los sacrificios que tenemos que hacer! 

I went looking for more linen in coral to make some shorts for Julia, but couldn´t find any...instead I found a very light plumetti cotton, that I would have love to use on a top for myself...but little one first!!

Para los shorts he usado Oliver&S Class Picnic, me encanta ese patrón, es muy ingenioso. Ya lo he usado AQUI/HERE. Esta entrada es de cosas repes!

Oliver & S Class Picnic

¡Hola hermosas! Cuanto tiempo, ¿eh? Nada, que es que sigo liada con lo del patronaje, de momento he hecho un conjuntillo, pero lo que tiene patronear es que te da por hacer cosas raras, independientemente de que te siente bien o mal. Total que me ha salido un engendro al que  necesito acostumbrarme antes de sacarle fotos.
Pero hoy os traigo otra cosita que os recomiendo de corazón. Hace un par de meses dando una vuelta por mi tienda de telas favorita, TELARIA, me quedé obsesionada con los shorts que vienen con el patrón Class Picnic. Sin exagerar. No veía como se construía el pantalón ni como sería el patrón, y cada vez me gustaban más...incluso para mí. (gente de Oliver & S, por favor ¿talla adulto?)

Hello ladies!! Seems like a long time from my last post! I´ve been sewing lately: first a top and a skirt to practice  pattern- making, but the risky part of this very creative side of  "self-fashion" is that suddenly your designs have nothing to do with the kind of clothes that suit you and a lot with practising tricky things that you´ve learned. I need to get used to the stuff I made before showing it to you...

Instead, today I´ll show you something that I heartily recommend. A couple of months ago, I was having a look at the kids patterns over at TELARIA, and I got obsessed with the shorts in this pattern,  Class Picnic by Oliver & S. I couldn´t figure out how the shorts were constructed, or how the pattern for them was, and why wasn´t an adult-sized version of it!

Así que me puse en contacto con Miren, alma y cabecita pensante  de TELARIA, y le pedí que, por favor, me eligiera ella las telas para hacer el conjuntito. Como siempre acertó de pleno. 

Grand Mosaic en Blue es un algodón finito y fresco, perfecto para trabajarlo

Chambray Union Stretch Indigo, es precioso y al tener un poco de "stretch" es perfecto para usar en los shorts de una saltimbanqui como mi hija. Os dejo con unas fotos con niña dentro.

So I contacted Miren, the soul and thinking head behind TELARIA and asked her to choose the fabrics for me. I´m a little challenged when it comes to choose the fabrics on-line, and she has great taste and always get it right. Just judge yourselves! She sent me:

Grand Mosaic en Blue, thin and fresh cotton with a geometric print that is great to work with.
Chambray Union Stretch Indigo, the perfect match! And because it is stretch, it´s perfect for my little acrobat´s shorts!

Me ha encantado este patrón. Era la primera vez que coso algo de Oliver & S y las instrucciones son estupendas y hacen que termines con una prenda muy bien acabada. Aquí os dejo con un par de detalles.

I loved working with this pattern. It is the first time I sew up something from Oliver & S and I have to say the instructions are over the top! They are so thorough that your final product is perfectly finished with a lot of pretty details. Here is a couple of them:

El tallaje es de 5 a 12 años, he usado la talla 10 para mi hija, y solo espero que me de tiempo a hacerle alguna versión más antes de que le de por pegar otro estirón.

The sizes in my envelope went from 5 to 12 years old. I used size 10 for my daughter  and I hope I have enough time to make another version before she gets another of her growth spurts!

Doña Coletas va de Campamento. Miss Pigtails goes to Summercamp

Con siete añazos, se va de campamento de verano (snif!) Así que necesita ropa cómoda, facil de poner y quitar y fresquita.

My seven y.o. girl is going to an English Summercamp, so she needs comfortable clothes, easy to put on and fresh.

He usado los patrones 144 y 145 del Burda 05/2012. He omitido los botones en la espalda, porque no se necesitan, la cabeza cabe perfectamente.

I used patterns 144 and 145 from Burda 05/2012. I omitted the buttons in the back, it didn´t really needs them.

He usado lino. Compré dos tipos que se complementan y habrá otra versión con los colores invertidos. A esta segunda versión creo que le pondré una puntilla roja en el bajo del top.

I used linen. I bought two complementing kinds and I´ll make an inverted version of this one, only this time I´ll add red lace at the hemline of the top

Las instrucciones piden forrar la parte de arriba del top, yo lo he dejado sin forrar y lo he rematado con bies, primero hice las sisas, pero con el cuello me lo pensé mejor y se lo puse hacia afuera.

The instructions state to line the yoke but I didn´t. I used bias tape to finish. In the armeholes it goes in the inside but in the neckline I put it outside

Mi chico tambien queria salir en las fotos. My boy wanted to be in the photos too!

Los bolsillos del pantalón son la parte favorita de mi hija.

The pockets on the shorts are my daughter´s favourite feature

Todos contentos. Everybody is happy

Conclusión: Bonito y veraniego. Y con el lino tambien se pueden hacer costuras francesas!

Veredict: Pretty and summery. And I discovered that you can use french seams with linen too!
