Vaya por delante que no, todavía no le he cogido el truco a este tema de los bañadores y que el bikini me queda peor que cualquiera de los comprados, pero seguimos intentando.

El patrón para mi bikini es un mix de los que incluye PATRONES COSTURA FACIL N 29, he hecho la braguita de la muchacha con la pose lamentable, el patrón número 6, que yo creo que es demasiado grande. Intenté hacer el suje del mismo modelo pero por lo visto mi nivel no estaba a la altura y me tuve que conformar con uno más sencillito, el número 12. Están todos en el enlace de arriba.

I admit I still don´t work very good with lycra or stretchy fabrics. This bikini fits me worst than any of my RTW bikinis, but I keep on trying.

The pattern I used is a mix of the ones included in PATRONES COSTURA FACIL N 29, I´ve made the bottom part of the one the girl with the "unfortunate" pose is wearing, number 6, but I think it is too big or very underwear-looking. I tried to make the top too, but it ended in the dustbin. I realized my sewing skills were not enough and tried something simpler, like number 12. You can see them in the link up there

Para el bañador de la niña usé Kwiksew 2727 que ya usé AQUI/HERE, pero esta vez he modificado la espalda. Tanto el bikini como el bañador van forraditos.

For the girl´s swimsuit I used Kwiksew 2727 that I used AQUI/HERE, modifying the back. Both the bikini and swimsuit are lined.

El método para insertar el elástico es el que viene en las instrucciones del Kwiksew: un zig-zag estrecho para fijarlo, y luego un zig-zag triple para pulirlo...bueno, eso de pulirlo es un decir...

I used a narrow zig-zag to attach the elastic and then a triple zig-zag to finish, it doesn´t look perfect on the inside but I cannot complain this time.

El consejo que me dió Mónica fué el "ratio" para el elastico: más o menos un 80% de la dimensión de la abertura donde lo vas a aplicar. Como no tengo mucho ojo lo que hice fué marcar la abertura cada 5cm y el elástico cada 4cm, y hacer coincidir las marcas. Ha funcionado bastante bien, así queda mejor repartido.

The advise Mónica gave me was the "ratio" for the elastic: She told me it works well when the elastic is 80% of the opening dimensions. I´m not good at eye-balling anything so I opted for marking the opening every 5 cm and the elastic every 4 cm, and  make those marks meet. It worked better than in previous times.

Sewing the Trends Summer 2013. Floral Shorts

When Justine from Sew County Chick asked me to take part on her series I accepted inmediately. I admire her so much! Not only she has a great site where she shares all her crafty ideas with all of us, she is a seriously beautiful mother of five and  still she has time to create pretty clothes for her daughters and herself. I don´t know how she does it!

I don´t usually follow the trends, but from time to time ( at the hairdresser, normally) I get to read some fashion magazines and realize what´s on or off. From this season I like the bold and big stripes trend. Unfortunately, the shops where I get my fabric never follow any trend. At all. 

They should visit the hairdresser more often, I think.


Cuando Justine de Sew County Chick me invitó a participar en su Serie de Cosiendo las Tendencias del Verano 2013, acepté inmediatamente. Es una mujer admirable: No solo tiene un blog llenito de buenísimas ideas, tutoriales y de más, es madre de cinco hijos, tiene un tipazo que no veas y encima le da tiempo a coser. ¡Yo es que no sé como lo hace!

Normalmente no sigo las modas, pero a veces (normalmente en la pelu) me da tiempo a leer alguna revista y ponerme al día. De esta temporada me encanta la de las rayas gruesas. Pero mis tiendas de confianza (Mercadillo y Tejidos Mary), lamentablemente pasan de tendencias. De todas.

Deberían ir más a la pelu.

As much as I love wearing dresses in the Summer, I can´t live without shorts. Comfortable, cool and easy to wear. I went looking for the latest shorts trend in this is what I´ve got. My shops can do floral too!

Con todo lo que a mi me gustan los vestiditos en verano, al final casi siempre voy en shorts. Cómodos, fresquitos y fáciles de llevar. Así que me puse a mirar las tendencias respecto a shorts. Flores. Genial. Porque en mis tiendas hay flores a porrillo.

Fabric in hand (just a meter, another great thing about shorts ;) I went looking for a pattern. And this one appealed me for all the pretty little details... Not that you get to notice them with the busy print, but I know they are there and that makes me happy.

Con la tela en mano ( solo un metrito, otra ventaja de los shorts) ,  empecé a buscar patrón. Este de Patrones me llamó la atención por todos los detallitos, auque en realidad se pierden con tanto floripondio. Pero yo se que están ahí y eso me hace feliz.

As you can see, sharp seamstresses, the technical drawing is not the one from the shorts the model is wearing. Yep! The waistband. On the model it sits at hip-level, whereas in the drawing you can see it is a high-waisted  pattern. By the way, lovely eyebrows, aren´t they?

Como veis el dibujo técnico no es el del pantalón de la foto. La cinturilla, niñas. El de la modelo sienta en la cadera, mientras en el dibujo claramente sube hasta la cintura. Por cierto: Me pido las cejas de la chica

Oh the top! I actually made This/ Este Top using matching colours for the embroidery. But the´re is no way you´ll see me wearing that thing just yet. Instead I´m wearing This One from last summer.

El top. En realidad, yo hice  This/ Este Top para los shorts, usando los colores del pantalón para el bordado, pero ni loca me lo pongo junto. En lugar de eso llevo Este Otro del verano pasado.

Silk Halter Top.

¡Hola a todas! ¿Que tal estais llevando la primavera? ¿Ya os llega el calorcito? Espero que sí.

Yo sigo con mis costuras Primavera-Verano y esto es que os voy a mostrar es una pieza muy especial para mí. 

La razón es la tela: ¡Seda, nenas! Pero claro, no de mi mercadillo. Viene desde China. Si,si. Y pasando por Australia primero. ¿La ruta de la seda no era otra? :D

Lo mejor es que se trata de un regalo de mi amiga Marjorie. Fué una de las primeras personas que conocí a través de BurdaStyle.com. Y desde entonces siempre ha estado ahí dejando comentarios positivos y no solo es generosa con dichos comentarios si no que se fué a China de viaje y se acordó de mí y cargó con el paquetito para mandarlo luego, con otros muchos regalos para los niños. ¿Soy o no soy una tía con suerte?

No dejeis de ver Marjorie´s Proyects in BurdaStyle. Hace unas blusas, tops, que me tienen loca y una chaqueta tipo Chanel que quita el hipo!

Hello everyone! How´s the Spring going? Feeling warm?...Unless you live in other parts where it is the Autumn that you are experiencing at the moment!

I keep on sewing for Spring, and this little piece I bring you is very special to me.

The reason is the fabric: It is silk! Of course not from my local, cheap market. It comes all the way from China via Australia. I thought the Silk Route was a different one ;D

The best part is that this silk is a present from my friend Marjorie. She was one of the first people I met at BurdaStyle, and her friendship is  very dear to me. She is not only generous with her comments and with her time:  she went on a trip to China and she was so thoughtful as to pick this beautiful fabric for me, take it home then send it! Isn´t she the greatest? She is a great sewist too. You just cannot miss Marjorie´s Proyects in BurdaStyle. Her choice of fabrics is always impecable and her blouses and tops are amanzing...oh! And she has a Chanel Style jacket that is to die for!

 Estp es lo que hice con la seda. Podeis dar por sentado que me daba terror meter la pata, cortar la tela...todo! Usé un patrón sencillito para dejar lucir a la tela. Patrones 293 # 8
Es un Halter top, que va fruncido en el cuello del frente, no en la espalda. El lazo es una tira ancha de tela y lo mismo el bajo. Supuestamente debe llevar cremallera pero no hace falta.
Este modelo se lo hice a mi cuñada en 2010, así que seguro que es facil porque por entonces empezaba a coser. Se me olvidó el pequeño detalle de que lo tuvo que terminar mi suegra porque la pobre nadaba en el top!
PROBLEMA: La sisa casi va al bies. Y crece y crece. Lleva vistas y tengo la sospecha que aunque están entreteladas tambien crecen. Bueno, intenté cerrarlo un poco pero quedaba raro así que he decidido que este es el top "sin suje" Por que no hay ni un sostén que no asome por ahí. Mientras que no me de por hacer cabriolas no se nota mucho que vas "a lo loco"

So here is what I made with the Silk. It goes without saying I was terrified of cutting the fabric, and I wanted to use a simple pattern to let the pretty print shine. I used Patrones Magazine 293 #8.
It is very straightforward halter top, gathered on the upper front  but not in the back, the bow is a wide strip of fabric and so is the bottom band. The front and back go gathered at the bottom.
I made this one  in 2010 for my sister in law. So I thought it would be easy enough. But I didn´t remember that back then, my mother-in-law had to fisnish it because it was too big and the poor girl was swimming in the top. 
Problem: As this is a halter top, the armhole is cut almost on the bias...and it keeps growing and stretching when you sew the facings. Didn´t alter that. Instead I decided this is the only top I´ll be wearing bra-less. As long as I behave like a proper lady, and don´t start jumping around everything would look just fine.

Le he añadido un elástico en el bajo con la medida de mi cadera alta para que siente ahí, si no baja directamente a la cadera y yo prefiero tener opciones :)

I added a wide elastic band in the bottom with my hight-hip measure, otherwise it goes straight to the hip and I like to have my options :)

Visions in Blue Patrones 296 #14 + Burda 09/2010 # 121

Esta semana he tenido costura remendona, un botón aquí, una rodillera allá; y también he intentado quitarme una espinita que tenía desde hace tiempo. No ha podido ser. 

For the past week and a half I´ve been mending clothes, basically my son´s trousers, some buttons and stuff like that. I also tried to get this thorn off my side. But I couldn´t

Chuli, ¿no? El conjunto completo lo hice hace mucho tiempo y aunque estoy muy contenta con los pantalones y los llevo mucho, el top no salió bien, sobre todo la parte del cuello. Esta es la versión antigua.

Cute, uh? I made both pants and top a long time ago, and although I´m pretty happy with the trousers, the top was really wrong in the neck area. This is the old version

¿esto que es lo que es, ein?

La parte de atrás. Esas piezas en el cuello eran raras, raras, y las modifiqué un montón de veces. La cremallera no sirve para nada. Cabe la cabeza (a veces creo que mi fontanela no se ha cerrado porque todo me cabe por la cabeza, y tan pequeña no la tengo)

The back side. Those neck pieces were weird from the beggining. I modified them several times. The zipper is useless, the head goes through the neck of the top, no problem.

Pensé que el problema estaba en el patrón así que saqué otro que me pareció mas normal de Burda.

Y corté el frente en dos

Then cut the front in two.

Esta vez usé un jersey fino, pero la otra tela, la arrugadilla, es malísima para coser. Además en este azul tan oscuro, la diferencia casi ni se aprecia. Ganas me dan de ponerle estrellitas de las que me sobraron por toda la linea de unión, a ver si la cosa se anima un poco

This time a used a proper knit, but the wrinkley fabric was not a proactive one.  To make matters worse, this blue is so dark you cannot appreciate the difference. I´m tempted to use the little stars from the last proyect to highlight the meeting line!

The "If I was" Jacket.

Esta chaqueta se llama "If I was" ( Si yo fuera, in spanish) por varias razones.
Primero por que si yo fuera una mejor costurera, me hubiera atrevido con una chaqueta Chanel como Dios manda. Si yo fuera menos gallina,  hubiera entretelado toda la chaqueta a mano, hubiera hecho unos ojales preciosos, escogido los adornos...En lugar de eso, le puse entretela de la que se plancha a toda la chaqueta y en lugar de botones hay automáticos (Los pedia el patrón, que conste)

I christened this  the "If I was" jacket for a reason.
If a was a better sewist I would have made Vogue 8804. If I was less of a wuss I would have hand quilted the whole jacket, made nice bound button-holes, chosen trim and a chain. Instead I interfaced the jacket with iron interfacing, and where buttons should be there are snaps (recommended BY the magazine)

Tambien está el factor "envejecedor" de la Chaqueta Chanel. Es ponerte una y echarte 10 años encima, bueno ese es el efecto que tiene en mi, hay personas a las que le sienta de maravilla.

There is also the "aging" factor of the Chanel jacket (Yep! I´m not only lazy, but old too) At my age you don´t want to go looking older. Some people won´t agree but I think a proper Chanel makes you look  some good 5 years older ever if you wear it with jeans

El patrón no está nada mal. Es una chaqueta corta con mangas de dos piezas, corte princesa en el delantero y atras. Dos bolsillos plastron forrados con solapa y un cuello de una pieza. La chaqueta va forrada, con vistas para la solapa.

The patterns is quite good. It´s a short jacket with  two-pieced sleeves, princess seams front and back. Two patch pockets that are lined, and the one-pieced neckband. The jacket has front facings and it is fully lined and fully liked by me, =)

Sorprendentemente para ser un Patrones de pura cepa no he tenido ningún problema. Igual tendria que haber hecho las mangas mas largas, pero luego me agobian.

Surprisingly for a Patrones, the pattern was perfect; I should have made the sleeves a bit longer, but then they get in the way all the time.

 Todavia me queda algo de esta tela, asi que podeis esperar ver esta chaqueta como parte de un conjunto.

Here it is still coldish with some unexpected showers now and then. No dresses for me yet!
Today I wore this Burda Jacket and the pants are from Revista Patrones 292 #15. I didn´t show you this one for a reason. I had to make a lot of pics to finally get one that didn´t show too much the vertical pleats of fabric rrright on both sides under the zipper...Yep! right there.

Hasta les hice sus rivetes en hilo naraja y puse mis iniciales en los bolsillos de atrás.

Nunca llegarán a ser mis pantalones favoritos, pero de vez en cuando se pueden poner.

I even used thick orange thead to be more professional...My initials MM are in the back pockets! the lenghts I went for this one to no avail.
