Hola, ya pasó Navidad! He estado viendo costuras navideñas por la blogosfera y confieso que me da un poco de vergüenza escribir esto. Yo solo he estado haciendo costura de supervivencia: cosas chandalosas para los críos o para mi y repeticiones. Nada que merezca la pena publicar.
Uno de los vestidos que he repetido ha sido este, AQUI/HERE teneis la otra versión, pero estaba tan desgastada por el uso y es un vestido tan calentito que cuando encontré un punto parecido ( aunque este es más verde-grisaceo, el otro era gris-gris, no es que en las fotos se note, pero bueno, un dato) lo repetí.

Hello, ladies!  Christmas came and went! I've been seeing some Christmas-sewing action around the blogosphere and I have to say your makes put me to shame as I write this. I've only been doing "survival sewing": things that I really need, or my kids need. I've been sewing tracksuit pants, sweaters and things like that. Nothing post-worthy.
I´ve repeated patterns, as is the case with this dress. Vogue 8946. I´ve made it before AQUI/HERE, but it was all worn out so I chose a similar fabric (this one is also grey, with some green hues, not that you can notice it in the pictures)

 

También he estado tejiendo. Encontré esta lana que estaba a mitad de precio, ya que solo quedaban dos "bolas" o como quiera que se llamen, no era suficiente para hacer un jersey, pero sí para un chal-bufanda. Es calentito y suave.

I've been knitting too: I found this yarn half price, only two "balls" (sorry, I'm still not familiar with knitting vocabulary) Not enough to make a jumper, so I decided to make a shawl/scarf/whatever. It is quite warm, actually! 

Y finalmente me compré una Ottobre. Bueno, no se...los diseños son muy ponibles pero a mi las instrucciones me quitan las ganas. Además la mayoria de los modelos están diseñado para coser con la remalladora y yo sigo en mis trece de no comprar una. Minimalista que es una.

And I finally bought one of those Ottobre magazines that are very popular amongst Spanish sewists. Well, I don't know... I find all the designs very wearable, I admit it, but the instructions put me off. Besides most of the models are designed to be sewn with a serger, and I refuse to buy one.

 

Necesitaba algún vestidín mono para dar clase y decidí probar el número 6, que tiene todas las costuras con remalladora y por fuera. Soy pura contradicción, lo sé.

 I needed something comfortable and nice for my classes and I decided to try number six which has all the seams sewn on the outside with a serger.

Mi tela de punto es como doble y tiene el estampado por el derecho y por el revés es totalmente negra. Hice todas las costuras de las piezas poniendo revés con revés y después de abrirlas con la plancha las aseguré con una costura al canto en zig-zag pequeñito.

My fabric had one side printed but the other side was entirely black, so I decided to sew the seams wrong side together and then open them and secure them with a zig-zag stitch.

La transición de las costuras del delantero al trasero fué estupendamente.

Y este vestido lo puedo llevar con mis nuevos zapatos de profe. Me encantan! Son cómodos y los puedo llevar con faldas!

I can wear it with my new teacher-shoes. I'm in love with them, they are so comfortable and they look good with skirts!

Más cositas: Tejí un jersey para mi fotógrafo: tenía que ser negro, porque casi siempre va de negro, pero añadí una banda de un color entre azul y gris que hacen juego con sus ojos.

Ah, y esos pantalones son  V8859

Los hice con falso cuero con stretch. La tela parece y se siente como cuero, y para coserla es un rollo. 

Me sobró un poco y con eso y tres metros de una tela bonita que encontré por ahí, hice mi vestido navideño de este año...pero esa es otra historia.

 

More things: I've knitted a sweater for my photographer. It had to be black, because he usually dress in black, but I added a greyish-blue band that goes with his eyes. 

Oh, and those pants I´m wearing are V8859 in a stretch fake leather fabric. They are comfortable and soft to touch.

I had some of that fabric left and with it and three meters of another fabric I made my Chirstmas dress...but that's another story.

Vestida de Primavera. Dressed in Spring

¡Hola costureras! Mirad la tela que encontré hace un par de meses en la tienda mientras compraba algo tan aburrido que ni siquiera me acuerdo de lo que era... De lo que sí me acuerdo es que hacía frío y yo estaba deseando coser algo muy primaveral.

Se trata de una tela elástica, pero parece piqué. El problema es que la elasticidad la tiene a lo ancho, pero no a lo largo, que es lo que iba a ser mi ancho...no se si tiene mucho sentido lo que digo... en fin!

Hello fellow sewists! Look at the fabric I found a couple of months ago, while I was buying something so boring I can't even remember what it was...What I do  remember is that it was cold back then, and that I had a yearning for anything that screamed spring.

It is an elastic fabric, but it looks like piqué. The problem was that, the way I envisioned the dress, because it HAD to be a dress, I had to use the fabric width-wise, not lenght-wise, and the elasticity was across, so it now goes along the dress... Am I making any sense?

La tela pedía un patrón muy sencillo, además me fuí de la tienda con solo un metro de tela. Saqué mi patrón base, hecho con esta CRAFTSY CLASS, y tuve que hacer algunos ajustes, porque parece que he bajado una talla.

The fabric asked for a very simple pattern, besides I left the shop with only one meter of it. I took out my sloper, the one I made for this CRAFTSY CLASS, and I had to make some adjustments to it, as it seems I have change sizes. 

Medí la altura a la que me queda el cierre del sujetador, porque no me gusta nada ir enseñando por ahí el mismo, e hice que el escote de la espalda llegara un poquito más arriba. El resto fué bastante sencillo de diseñar.

La parte un poco más complicada fué coser las pinzas del cuerpo por lo de que la elasticidad de la tela va hacia abajo y quedaban un poco raras, despues de descoser un par de veces, la cosa mejoró.

También traté de terminar los cantos con bies y luego coserlo al canto, pero quedaba feo, feo. Así que lo descosí y lo volví a coser con puntada escondida.

I measured on the back where my bra closure lays, so it didn't show when wearing the dress, and the rest went very nicely. 
It was quite tricky to sew those darts, given that the elasticity was along the dress, but I think it doesn't show much.
Also I tried to finish the raw edges with a bias strip, then folding and sewing on top (edge stitching) but it didn't turn out well. Instead I blind-stitch the bias. It looks neater

La movilidad también era un tema importante con este vestido, siendo tan largo. Además mi tendencia es caminar con zancadas largas, así que dejé una abertura en el lado derecho de la falda. Es más cómodo y también mucho más sexi!

Mobility was also an issue with this dress, as I tend to walk with very long strides, so I left a slit on the right side. It is much more comfortable now, and yes, rather sexy too!

Momento Paulova con arena en los ojos

Having a  Paulova moment with some sand kicked into my eyes :)

Compré esta tela que será poliester-algo para hacer un vestido para asistir a una boda. Al final no puedo ir, pero la tela ya estaba en casa. 4.5 metros de verdor con mucha, pero mucha caida.

Desde que empecé el curso de Craftsy de patrones tenía ganas de hacer una falda de capa, así que me lié la manta a la cabeza.

Después de todos los contratiempos, me doy cuenta de que hubiera quedado igual de bien si hubiera más sencilla: dos rectangulos fruncidos y ya. Pero como siempre, tiro por lo más dificil.

La tela tiene tanta caida que una vez cortada y cosida, las zonas que van al bies eran mucho más largas que las que van al hilo. Entre 10 y 15 cm. de diferencia.

Después de dejarla "reposar" sobre el maniquí más de tres días la falda seguía creciendo. La recorté con bastante dificultad y le hice el dobladillo. Otra trabajera.

Antes de eso, la sola idea de ponerle cremallera a esto me daba taquicardia. así que en un golpe de ingenio (está mal que lo diga yo, lo sé) la parte de atras se convirtió en la de delante, entretelé los bordes y le puse unos corchetes de "martillo".

Tuve que añadir uno de los normales entre el 1º y 2º porque el peso de la falda hace que se abra el esa zona.

I bought this poly-something fabric to make a dress for a wedding. In the end I am unable to attend, but the fabric was already at home. All 4.5 meters of green and drapey stuff.

Since I started the Crafty classes I wanted to try a circle skirt, so that´s what I did.

After all the setbacks, I realized I could have get away with a gathered skirt instead, but I never take the easy way, do I?

This has so much drape that once sewn the bias parts were much longer than the grain bits, by 10-15 cm.

I let it set for three days on my dress form them cut all the same length. Well, it is still growing somehow!

Before hemming I thought that putting a zipper was going to be a hellish experience so I made the back into the front, interface the whole length and  put some hammer-on snaps. I think this was the best thing I could have done!

I had to add an invisible snap between the first and second, because it opened too much.

Costuras francesas y mini-dobladillo. Para hacerlo pasé un hilván y fuí frunciendo y remetiendo sujetando con otro hilvan...puf! Mis hijos al ver la tela sobre el suelo con el patrón encima pensaron que iba a ser una tienda de campaña. La de la foto es la cara de un niño desilusionado.

French seams and a thin hem. To make that I had to baste, gather, then baste again  and sew...a lot of work!

When my kids saw the fabric on the floor with the pattern on top, they thought I was going to make a tent for them to play. This is the face of a dissapointed boy.
