Números! Este 7 y este 11 son la fecha de mi cumpleaños (el año como que no procede y además no cabe) Gracias por adelantado a vuestras felicitaciones: espero celebrarlo con mis niños y después descansar o coser un rato.

Numbers, numbers...So 7th November happens to be my birthday, thanks in advance for your Bday wishes, I hope I can have a little celebration with the children and then rest..or maybe sew a little.

Cuando planeé la confección de esta bomber, para la que usé el mismo patrón que para LA BOMBER REVERSIBLE quería que fuera muy calentita y deportiva. Con esta tela de sudadera gris, puños negros y forrada con una forro polar con pelitos que es muuuy suaaaave.


When I was planning this bomber jacket, for which I used the same pattern as in THE REVERSIBLE BOMBER JACKET, I wanted it to be really warm and sporty. I had this sweatshirt material and the black cuffs and I bought the softest, plushiest polar fleece.

Pero faltaba algo que le diera un poco de gracia al asunto, y se me ocurrió lo de los números, pero claro, a quien se le ocurre nacer con esa fecha! Lo primero que me venía a la cabeza era este logo. Así que llamé a mi amiga Charo de COSIENDO Y APRENDIENDO le conté mi problema y me diseñó unos cuantos logos de entre los que elegí este. Gracias, reina!

But there was something missing, like it was too big a span of grey on my back. The fist idea that crossed my mind was my B-day date, but of course, we all know a logo for that, don't we? So I called my friend Charo from the link above and she very kindly designed my very own. Yes, she is lovely like that!

La chaqueta tiene welt pockets (hijas, que no me acuerdo como se llaman en español) y le diseñé un cuello para taparme de los frios...tenía que haberlo entretelado pero se me olvidó. Ahora está como mustio.

The jacket has welt pockets and I designed a new collar for it, so that it was warmer. But I forgot to interface it and now it looks a bit collapsed.

Bueno, aún con sus fallos, estoy muy contenta con la chaqueta; es calentita, cómoda y estupenda para los vaqueros. 
Estoy de sequía costuril, así que espero hacer algo para navidad y poco más. Seguid vosotras por mi.

Despite the flaws, I'm quite happy with the jacket; it's warm and comfy and great to wear with jeans.
I'm having a bit of a sewing-draught right now. I buy patterns, I buy fabric but I can't get arround starting anything. I hope I can sew up something for Christmas, but in the meanwhile you carry on for me, alright?

Repeating Myself: Vogue 8946 and Tiger

Sabía que lo haría, es que no podía ser de otro modo. Es tan favorecedor y tan cómodo que tenía que caer la versión de manga corta. Os hablo del vestido gris que hice este invierno: ESTE. Pues aquí está: Manga corta, ¡ea! Este es tambien un poco gris si entornas los ojos...

I knew I would, it just couldn´t be otherwise. It is such a flattering, comfortable dress that I needed the short sleeve version. I´m talking about the GREY WINTER DRESS I made in January. It is still kind of grey if you squint.

A las seguidoras de MASUSTAK EGUZKITAN, el blog de la talentosa Maider, les sonará esta tela, ya que fué la que usó para enseñarnos a hacer Leggins, ¿os acordais? ¡Lo contentas que vamos todas con ellos ahora!

 Bueno, pues ella compró la tela en Bilbao  cuando se hizo la quedada a la que fuí yo también y cuando se la ví en la mano le pedí a la dependienta cuarto y mitad para mi, con vistas a este vestido. 

The followers of MASUSTAK EGUZKITAN, Maider´s blog, will recognize this fabric as it comes from the same bolt where she got hers and then used it to show us all how to make our own leggings. We were together for a meet-up in Bilbao last Christmas and I had this dress in mind. 

Como en la anterior ocasion ni forré ni puse cremallera. Como veis de costado los pliegues no añaden mucho volumen.

Añadí una bandita a las mangas y al cuello, para pulir.

As in the last version I didn´t line it or put a zipper in the back. Too lazy, I know. The gathers don´t add a lot of  volume in the tummy area.

I added bands in the neck and sleeves to finish the edges.

Detalle de los pliegues. Al ser una tela mas fina se marcan más y tienen otro efecto que con una tela más gruesa. Lo de las manos es lo que te pasa después de hacer tantos pliegues. Nada, en un par de días se quita.

Pleat detail. Being this a thinner fabric than the one I used on the winter dress the effect of the pleats is different. About the hands: This is what happens after the pleating. Don´t worry! It goes away after two days :)

Hace unos meses fuí la ganadora de un sorteo organizado por Valerie de VALERIE´S OWN SEWING BLOG y entre otros fabulosos patrones gané este de los años 70, un vestido y una chaquetita diseñadas por EDITH HEAD diseñadora de Hollywood por autonomasia.

Some months ago I was the lucky recipient of the de-stashing give-away that Valerie of VALERIE´S OWN SEWING BLOG organized. She is such a talented lady! I admire the way she modificates her patterns to make the fit perfectly. There is a lot to learn from her!
Among other pretty things she sent me this Vogue from the 70´s, a dress and a light jacket designed by EDITH HEAD

Sin muchas costuras (las hice francesas) y terminando el contorno con bies ha quedado mucho mejor que el otro tigre, en mi opinión. Con lo cual me saco una espinita.

Just a couple of seams (French ones) and finishing the edges with bias, I think it looks much better than the other tiger.

The Reversible Bomber Jacket

Tres meses dandole vueltas a la idea de una bomber jacket (o cazadora de toda la vida) reversible, desde que encontré las telas, hasta que tuve totalmente claro como iba a construirla, no me he puesto manos a la obra.

Three months I spent thinking about this jacket, from the moment I got the fabric until it was totally clear in my head how I was going to construct it.

Mientras estaba ideando el modo de hacerla, y encontrando las cositas que me hacian falta he ido viendo en la cose-blogosfera diferentes bombers que me han dejado con la boca abierta:

Lo primero fué el patrón. En realidad no quería que fuera manga ranglan, pero no me ha quedado de otra y he usado este patrón:

First problem was the pattern. I didn´t want it to be a ranglan sleeve, but I couldn´t find what I wanted so I caved in and used this one:

Burda Style 03/2014 # 124

La versión original lleva un canesú en la parte de la espalda en forma de pico. Como no me daba la tela, y aprovechando mis nuevos conocimientos patronísticos (ajem) le he puesto un pliegue horizontal para romper la monotonía de la espalda.

The original version has a pointy yoke in the back. I thought it was a nice feature, but I didn´t have enough fabric. Instead I used my reciently adquired pattern-making skills (ahem) and made a horizontal pleat to break the monotony of the back 

Mucha costura exterior. La tela verde es un "punto de neopreno" o al menos así le llaman en la tienda. Es una especie de ponte más brillante y con más cuerpo. Bueno de trabajar pero sigue siendo elástico. Y eso para hacer costuras externas es un poco problemático. Para estas costuras usé una puntada de 3.5 mm

A lot of top stitching. The green fabric is a "neoprene knit" or so they call it at the store. It is like a shinier, heavier ponte knit to me. It is good to work with but it is still elastic. That for top stitching is not nice. I used a 3.5 mm stitch 

Otra de las dificultades de esta tela es hacer el bolsillo riveteado. Puse estrela por detrás, pero aún así, y cambiando la tensión del hilo, la costura quedó un poquito ondulada.

Making the pocket was not easy because of the fabric. I interfaced it, but even changing the tension of the thread, it got a bit wobbly

La otra parte es satén floreado con una caida preciosa, ligera...Y poco facil de trabajar. A esta parte no le añadí bolsillos. Una vez montada la uní a la otra parte por el elástico de abajo y el cuello y por la parte exterior la parte de la cremallera.

The other part is a flowery satin, lovely...but not easy to work with. I didn´t add pockets to this side. Once it was costructed I joined both parts and the rib knit on the hems and neck line. Then, on the outside, to the zipper

Y por último las mangas que las fruncí y cosí a mano.

And lastly the cuffs. I gathered those and handstitch them.

Como la tela de puño tenía poco cuerpo la entretelé con la tela de punto 

As the rib knit was not very stable, I interfaced it with the knit fabric.

¡Oh!¡Que ganas tenía ya de enseñaros esto!

Pauline se puso en contacto conmigo a finales de Noviembre por si estaba interesada en ser "probadora", ni siquiera le pregunté de que se trataba. La respuesta fué SIIII!

Porque Pauline tiene un gusto exquisito. sus diseños son preciosos y tiene pasión por los detalles.

 Cuando me dijo que se trataba de una chaqueta me tiré de cabeza, ¡con lo que me gusta hacer chaquetas y abrigos! Y venía con sorpresa: Pauline se lanza a la aventura infantil. Y yo creo que ha empezado con muy buen pie.

Oh, I wanted so much to show you these!
Pauline asked me to be her pattern tester during the last weeks of November, before I knew what kind of clothing she was talking about I said YES!
She has tons of style, her designs are so pretty and I admire her love for nice details.

When she told me it was a jacket, I couldn´t be more excited...Doubly excited! With this jacket she launches her girls´  line (At least I want to think so!) 

Desde que saqué el patrón solo tuve seis dias para hacer ambas chaquetas más los cuellos. Tres dias hasta las tres de la mañana , nada de enredar con el ordenador y muchos ratos robados de aquí y de allá. Pero ha merecido la pena, ¡vaya que sí!

From the moment the patterns were assembled I had just six days to complete both jackets and the detachable collars. I hadn´t sleep much, no blogging activity and a lot of stealed moments. But it was worthy!

Las chaquetas están inspiradas en los años 40, y son elegantes y atemporales.

Me encantaron las instrucciones que incluye Pauline para hacer los ojales ribeteados, al igual que los bolsillos. La construcción de la chaqueta siguiendo dichas instrucciones es una verdadera delicia.

The jackets are inspired in the 40´s  and they are timeless and elegant.
Pauline´s instructions to make the bound button-holes are perfect, and so are the pockets´. The whole jacket is delightfully easy to make following her steps.

Cada vez que me enfrento con una técnica de sastrería me acuerdo de una pareja que conocí hace mucho tiempo a la que recuerdo con cariño y que se dedicaba precisamente a la sastrería. En aquella época yo no sabía ni enhebrar una aguja, así que perdí una gran oportunidad para aprender de dos maestros. Este es mi pequeño homenaje a ellos.

Every time I´m dealing with some tailor techniques my mind flies way back in time and constantly think about a couple I used to know and love and who were in the  tailoring business. Back then I didn´t even know how to thread a needle, so I lost a great opportunity to learn from the masters. This is my little homage to them.

Una vez terminadas las chaquetas hice unos cuellos de quita y pon de pelo usando el tutorial de COLETTERIE. Son muy fáciles de hacer si vas con cuidado y creo que lucen mucho.

Además si la niña se aburre, se lo quitas y puede jugar con él como si fuera un peluche, ¡Todo ventajas! :D

Once I finished the jackets I made some removable faux-fur collars using this tutorial by COLETTERIE. They are very easy to make if you are careful, and I think they look great. Besides if the girl gets bored, she can play with it as if it was a fluffy toy. That´s a perk!

Aquí os dejo unos detalles de la chaqueta. He dejado algunas fotos con el color original para que lo podais ver mejor. La tela es un paño gordito, jaspeado y con pelillo. Sorprendentemente se trabaja bien.

Here are some details of the jacket. I left some of the photos with its original colour so that you can appreciate it better. The fabric is thick speckled wool with short hair. Surprisingly good to work with.

Para mí una de las partes más divertidas de tener un blog es hacer las fotos una vez terminada la prenda. Me gusta buscar los ambientes adecuados para según que tipo de ropa. A veces no hay tiempo y me tengo que apañar con la puerta de casa, pero esta vez tenía clarisimo que las fotos tenian que hacerse en esta calle. No paso a menudo por ella pero me enamoró la primera vez que la vi. 

Cuando estabamos haciendolas, nos asomamos a un patio antiguo. La casa es del año 1730. El dueño, que estaba alli mismo nos invitó a entrar. Patio andaluz, con su algibe, sus plantas, todo precioso.

One of the fun parts of having a sewing blog for me is to take the photos once the garment is finished. I like looking for the right setting for each piece. Some times I have to make do with my front door, but this time it has to be this street. I don´t walk it often, but I loved it the first time I saw it. It is so...Andalucian!
We were admiring this old patio, the house is from 1730, when the owner invited us in. How lucky!

Pero además nos quiso enseñar su imprenta, antiquísima tambien. Impresionante. Me da mucha pena que todo esto se vaya perdiendo por que es artesanía pura.

He also wanted to show us his old printing house. It was impressive! Isn´t it a pity that all this craftmanship is dying to the new technologies?

The Hoodie. La ¿Sudadera?

¡Hola amiguitas!

¿La vuelta al cole bien? Yo, como vosotras, liada forrando libros, comprando material, haciendo estuches, neceseres...hasta fundas de flauta! Si alguien le interesa hacer una funda de flauta (?) que me lo diga que le hago un tuto ipso facto :D

Entre todo esto, he podido robar unas horas aquí y allá para continuar con mi plan de ir "arreglá pero informal" y después de los Pantalones Cargo, lo siguiente en mi lista era una especie de sudadera. En realidad no sé si se puede llamar así. A ver: no he usado la tela típica para sudaderas, si no una especie de lino tipo denim (¿linim?) y un retal que me sobró de ESTE vestido.¡ No me digas que esta preciosa tela de TELARIA, no merecía ser la estrella de otro modelo!

I don´t know how is it with you all over the word, but over here The Mums have been very busy getting everything ready to go back to school (the kids, not the mums ;)
I had to steal some hours here and there to continue with my "Casual sewing" plan. So after the Cargo Pants, next on my list was "The hoodie". This is not the usual hoodie, mind. It is made of a kind of linen that looks like denim (linim?) and a piece of fabric left from THIS dress. I like it so much it had to feature somewhere, somehow. It is from TELARIA.

El patrón es del BurdaStyle Easy de otoño/invierno del 2010.

Las ateraciones al patrón fueron:

1. Alargar el bajo hasta la altura "medio pandero"

2. Alargar las mangas

3. Bajar los bolsillos

4. Añadir todos los detallitos que me permitiera la tela de Miren

The pattern alterations were:

1. Lengthening the hem to "mid-bum"

2. Make the sleeves longer

3. Lowering the position of the pockets

4. Adding pretty details, as many as the flowery fabric allowed

Y este es el resultado.

La sesión de fotos fué de lo más divertida. Jugando a las palas con mi amiga y  con un recoge-pelotas excepcional.

We had the greatest photo-shoot,playing "palas" with my dear friend and  with the collaboration of an expceptional ball-boy.

Costuras tejanas. Se lo pregunté a Lupecienta y ella me dijo como se llamaban en español las Flat-felled-seams. Ella tiene un tutorial estupendo de la "falsa" costura tejana AQUI . Como me lo habian preguntado, el próximo post os hago un mini- tuto de como se hace. Para la que quiera.

Flat-felled-seams almost all over. Next post I´ll show you how I did it. I know there are plenty tutorial about it , but I´ve been asked, so...

Y lo que más me gusta: pedazo de capucha de 4 piezas y dos pinzas...¿alguien da más?

And my favourite feature: a four-piece, two-darts hood. It´s...erm...roomy!

¿Sabeis qué? Que me encanta, me gusta buscarle las vueltas a cosas tan unisex, para hacerlas más femeninas y coquetuelas, y esmerarme en los acabados. Un beso y dentro de poco vuelvo con lo de la costura vaquera.

You know what? I love taking this unisex things and making them girly and make nice finishings.

The "If I was" Jacket.

Esta chaqueta se llama "If I was" ( Si yo fuera, in spanish) por varias razones.
Primero por que si yo fuera una mejor costurera, me hubiera atrevido con una chaqueta Chanel como Dios manda. Si yo fuera menos gallina,  hubiera entretelado toda la chaqueta a mano, hubiera hecho unos ojales preciosos, escogido los adornos...En lugar de eso, le puse entretela de la que se plancha a toda la chaqueta y en lugar de botones hay automáticos (Los pedia el patrón, que conste)

I christened this  the "If I was" jacket for a reason.
If a was a better sewist I would have made Vogue 8804. If I was less of a wuss I would have hand quilted the whole jacket, made nice bound button-holes, chosen trim and a chain. Instead I interfaced the jacket with iron interfacing, and where buttons should be there are snaps (recommended BY the magazine)

Tambien está el factor "envejecedor" de la Chaqueta Chanel. Es ponerte una y echarte 10 años encima, bueno ese es el efecto que tiene en mi, hay personas a las que le sienta de maravilla.

There is also the "aging" factor of the Chanel jacket (Yep! I´m not only lazy, but old too) At my age you don´t want to go looking older. Some people won´t agree but I think a proper Chanel makes you look  some good 5 years older ever if you wear it with jeans

And where did the pattern come from? Patrones magazine Extra Great Creations n. 16 Do you remember?

El patrón no está nada mal. Es una chaqueta corta con mangas de dos piezas, corte princesa en el delantero y atras. Dos bolsillos plastron forrados con solapa y un cuello de una pieza. La chaqueta va forrada, con vistas para la solapa.

The patterns is quite good. It´s a short jacket with  two-pieced sleeves, princess seams front and back. Two patch pockets that are lined, and the one-pieced neckband. The jacket has front facings and it is fully lined and fully liked by me, =)

Sorprendentemente para ser un Patrones de pura cepa no he tenido ningún problema. Igual tendria que haber hecho las mangas mas largas, pero luego me agobian.

Surprisingly for a Patrones, the pattern was perfect; I should have made the sleeves a bit longer, but then they get in the way all the time.

 Todavia me queda algo de esta tela, asi que podeis esperar ver esta chaqueta como parte de un conjunto.
