De nuevo por aquí. Me da por rachas.
No sé si conoceis este reto de RHINESTONES AND TELEPHONES. Se trata de crear algo inspirandote en alguna de las dos Hepburn: Audrey y Katharine. A mi me gustan las dos. Mi madre es una cinéfila impenitente y desde pequeñita me expuso a las películas clásicas, desde los años 30 hasta los 60 creo que las he visto casi todas.  Mis favoritas además de estas dos grandes son Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner...solo por nombrar algunas.
Lo mejor de este reto es que no tiene fecha límite. A mi me viene estupéndamente. A ver si para otoño hago otras cositas para Kate.

I bet you know about the RHINESTONES AND TELEPHONES challenge. It is about creating garments inspired by one or both Hepburns: Audrey and Katharine. I like them both a lot! My mother who is mad about the movies has exposed me, since I was very little, to all the classics. From the 30´s to the 60´s. My favourite actreses, style-wise are both Hepburns, Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner...just to name a few.
The best part of this challenge is that it has no dead-line. Great! See if I can sew for Kate next Autumn!

TOP BLANCO Y CORTO & SHORTS A RAYAS

WHITE CROP TOP & STRIPED SHORTS

He escogido dos looks bastante parecidos, la verdad. Top y shorts. Me viene estupendamente, porque aunque me gusten mucho los vestidos en verano, la verdad es que llevo más este tipo de atuendo. Comodidad ante todo.

I´ve chosen two very similar looks, truth to be told. Top and shorts. They come in very handy as that what I usually wear during the summer. I love dresses, but I normally wear them in the afternoons and evenings.

Los shorts son del Burda 6/2011 # 111. Ya he hecho unas cuantas versiones de este patrón. Me gustan porque van hasta la cintura y luego son un poco "evasé"

These shorts are Burda 6/2011 #111. I´ve made three versions of it. I like how they go up to the waist and then they are a bit flared.

La camisa es un "frankenpattern" con mi patrón base de las clases de Craftsy, y los cuello y bolsillos de una camisa de Patrones.

The shirt is a "frankenpatter" with my Cratsy sloper and the neckband and pockets from a Patrones shirt.

Es una prueba de copia de una camisa muy mona que tiene mi hija, quiero hacer una versión en vichy azul y blanco. Las extensiones para anudar han quedado un poco "raquíticas" pero eso se soluciona facil. El resto creo que está bastante bien.

This is a mock version of a shirt I want to copy. It is my daughter´s. I want to make a Vichy version in white and blue. The extensions to knot the shirt are too thin, now that I see the photos. That´s easy to solve. The rest I think is quite nice.

Un detalle de los cuellos y bolsillos. El cuello está arrugadillo porque todo esto iba metido en la bolsa de la playa de cualquier manera...

A detail of the neck band and pockets. The neckband is all wrinkly because the whole outfit was inside the beach bag for a long time. 

CAMISA A CUADROS & SHORTS LISOS

PLAID SHIRT & SOLID SHORTS

Compré esta tela para hacer una camisa a algún hombre de la familia, pero luego me dí cuenta de que me quedé corta de metraje. Bueno, mejor para mi, jiji!

I bought this fabric to make a shirt to a random man of the family but I realized I had not enough. Good for me!

Este es el patrón que usé. El frente y la espalda van al bies, y no lleva pinzas en el pecho, eso al principio me daba un poco de cosilla, pero claro, si la tela está al bies, se adapta mejor.

This is the pattern I used. The front and back are on the bias, and it hasn´t got bust darts, as the fabric adapts to the body when it is on the bias.

Siento no tener mejores fotos, pero esto  es lo que hay últimamente. 

Esta camisa me la he puesto ya un montón de veces.

CONSEJO 2 PARA BLOGI-FOTOS: FOTO-BOMBERS

ADVISE Nº2 ON TAKING PHOTOS FOR YOUR BLOG: PHOTOBOMBERS

Si sois mamás y os haceis fotos con vuestros niños correteando por alrededor (cuando no tomando ellos mismos las fotos) os pasará muy a menudo que se os "cuelan" en las fotos.

Es divertido, supuestamente. Mi consejo: no luches contra eso. ¡Únete al enemigo! Cuando perciben que no te están fastidiando la sesión, si no que acoges su presencia de mil amores porque ellos son más importantes, pierden todo el interés. Ellos son así.

If you are a mum, and you have to take your photos with your little darlings around, more often than not, they´d want to get "in the picture"

It is fun to spoil your mum´s poses!. My advise: Don´t fight them...Join them! Once they perceived they are much more important than your silly photos, they loose all interest and they go catching crabs instead. My word!

Arriba os dejo con otras preciosas versiones de unas costureras con estilo.

Pauline ya ha sacado su nuevo patrón AQUI y por segunda vez he tenido la suerte de ser su probadora. 

Esta vez se trata de una blusa con todos los detallitos que os podais imaginar. 

Es muy dulce, con el canesú con lorzas, la abertura  polo, el cuello mao, su manga fruncida el en puño...y luego el bajo redondeado típico de las camisas de siempre, el detalle del botón y la trabilla para recoger la manga. Vamos que no le falta de nada.

Pauline´s latest pattern has been released HERE and for the second time I have the honour to be one of her testers.
This time around it is a very pretty blouse with all the little details you can imagine. 
It is so sweet: the tucked bib, the polo neck opening, the gathered sleeve into the delicate cuffs and the placket to keep the sleeve up for a more casual look...Did I miss anything? Oh,yes! The curved hemline :)

Creo que es una camisa muy equilibrada. Yo pensaba que las blusas no eran lo mío. Sin embargo esta ya la he puesto un par de veces cada vez me siento mejor con ella.

I think this is a very balanced blouse... I thought blouses were not "my thing" until I made this up. I wore it a couple of times and I´m getting used to it.

Las instrucciones que incluye Pauline con el patrón son clarísimas y a mi me ha sorprendido muy gratamente lo fácil que resulta con su método hacer el cuello polo, los pliegues, la inserción del canesú. De verdad os lo recomiendo no solo por la blusa en sí, si no porque vais a aprender a hacer todas estas cosas de manera muy clara y sencilla.

De mi cosecha solo añadí las costuras francesas.

Y estoy bastante orgullosa de mis pespuntes. Estoy siguiendo un curso de  CRAFTSY que se llama "40 tecnicas que toda costurera debería saber" de Gail Yellen. Y me está resultando muy util.

En una de mis locuras transitoria me apunté a tres clases más, ya os iré contando...

The instructions Pauline includes in the pattern are really clear and I was very surprised to see how easy it was to make the polo opening and the yoke insertion. I made those before but never found it as easy as per her instructions. The only thing I added were the french seams.
I´m very proud of my top stitching. I´m following this CRAFTSY class by Gail Yellen "40 techniques every sewer should know, and she gives very useful tips for topstitching and many other subjects.
I also enrolled in three more classes, but I´m going very, very slow (I take notes of everything!)

The R&R Blouse. Burda 10/2010 #102

¿Por dónde iba yo? ¡Ah, si! La camisa rock & roll.

Tenía esta tela desde el pasado invierno. No me hubiera fijado en ella, si no la hubiera comprado mi amiga y compañera Maria, que tiene un estilazo para caerse de espaldas, así que le pedí permiso para "coincidir". 

Miedo me daba la tela esta, mira como transparenta.

Where was I? Oh, yes! The rock&roll blouse.

I had this fabric since last winter. I wouldn´t have notice it if it wasn´t for my very stylish collegue and friend Maria, who bought it. I liked it so much I asked her permission to get me some. She graciously accepted. There is a chance in the near future we´ll go to work clad in the same fabric.

See-through fabric, light as a feather!

Y me quise hacer una camisa clásica, cuellos, puños manga de dos piezas,  ¡por que yo lo valgo! Los bolsillos los tuve que obviar por que no me daba la tela (Y menos mal)

So I went and tried a blouse with two-piece sleeve (is that really neccesary?), neck band and cuffs...the lot! why not?  the fabric will be a joy to work with! I only missed the pockets as I didn´t have enough fabric

By the by, the lovely Carolyn has a post today about the prettiest blouse she´s made using this pattern as a base. She has another blouse that I wish I´ve seen before starting mine, but hadn`t . This one!

Empezamos cortando. Menos mal que me habia comprado esto, porque con las tijeras no creo que hubiera quedado ni parecido.

Starting with the cutting. All good. I bought this kit in the summer and I put it to good use! Otherwise I think the pieces would have been shaped much differently than the original pattern

Vista de frente. La camisa tiene las vistas incorporadas. Vueltas hacia adentro.

Front view. The shirt front is self-faced.

Vista de la espalda, con su canesú. Siempre que digo esa palabra me canto a mi misma eso de "tengo una muñeca vestida de azul" es algo irremediable.

The back with its yoke. There is a spanish children song that goes on about a doll dressed in blue. Can´t help singing it everytime I say the word yoke (canesú)

 Cada costura es francesa. Menos las mangas, claro.

Every seam is french. Oui, Madamme! Except the sleeves.

La única manera que he tenido de terminar el bajo. Intenté lo de vuelta y vuelta-pespunte, pero la tela se quedaba hecha un churro, o fruncida, así que usé el pie prensatelas para ruedo enrrollado (así dice que se llama, a mi me parece un trabalenguas)

The hems were tricky, I tried the stitch-fold-stictch approach but it didn´t work. I then used a presser-foot to make rolled hems and it did.

  

Mira que casaditos están los cuadros en el lado, !si ni se nota la costura!

I´m proud of my matching skills, he,he!

Me estan entrando ganas de hacerme torera. Es broma!

I feel like learning bullfighting. Just kidding!

Bueno, pues eso es todo lo que ha dado de sí la camisa. Una semana de para terminarla, ahora algo facilito.

Los pantalones de cuero son sinónimo de rock and roll.Si son negros y ceñidos mucho mejor. Es la cura anti- noñis para cualquier armario.
Leather pants are synonym with rock and roll. The tighter the better, and black. It is the anti-prudish cure to any wardrobe. No nonsense, no frills. 


Para hacerlos elegí un modelo sencillo donde los haya: dos pinzas atras, dos delante, cremallera al lado. Por cierto, para quien quiera hacerlos, el patrón viene hasta la rodilla, luego lo alargas tú misma, así que le puedes dar la forma abajo que tu quieras. Yo lo he dejado recto de modo que me pueda llevarlos por fuera de los botines.

To make them I used the simplest pattern for slim trousers: two darts front, two darts back, zipper to the side. The pattern is drawn to the knee, then you have to elongate it on your own. So there is a chance to make them a bit flared, straight... I chose to make them straight to wear them covering my ankle boots

Por razones económicas  éticas, el material del que están hechos los pantalones no es piel autentica. Es polipiel. Con este tipo de tejido no quieres hacer muchas costuras, porque rompe muy facilmente. Tambien es aconsejable usar el pegamento textil donde no sea absolutamente necesario pespuntear. Yo lo usé en los bajos y para mantener las vistas en su sitio. Para abrir las costuras, plancha suave con un pañito.

 

For economic ethical reasons I used leatherette. With this kind of thing you don´t want to make many seams, it breaks easily. It is advisable to use textile glue where possible. I used it in the hems and to keep the facings in place. To open the seams, use a piece of cloth between the iron and the leatherette, or your pants will fuse to the iron!

 

 ¡Esta vez he tenido que hacer muchas pruebas antes de coser!

This time I had to try this a lot of times to get the fit right!

Chic y Moderna y un poco Country también. Burda 10/2012 #122

¡Hola a todos!
Esta es mi versión del modelito de la portada del Burda de Octubre 2012, donde los titulares rezan: Chic y Moderna, en mi caso tambien un poco "country"
No tenia grandes expectativas para esta bambula...si, habeis leido bien: bambula. Para mi es como una tela mitologica, como el loden batanado o los géneros esponjosos. Hace tiempo queria hacer un vestido que pedia esa tela... nadie habia oido hablar de ella, ni sabia de su existencia. Un buen día la encontré en unas ofertas de telas: 2 metros, por favor! Quise hacerle un vestido a mi hija pero no se dejó. "¿Vainilla y chocolate? Ni en helado!

Hello everyone!
So this is my rendition of the shirt that is in the cover of Burda 10/2012, Spanish edition, where the headlines read "Chic and Modern" I just threw a bit of country too.
I really didn´t have high hopes for this bambula... yes, bambula: it´s like a mythological fabric to me. When I started sewing I wanted to make a dress that called for this fabric, but nobody had heard of it, nor knew of its existence. Then out of the blue I found it in a sale: 2 meters please! I thought of making a dress for my daughter but she wouldn´t hear any of it. Vanilla and chocolate? Not even as ice-cream flavor!

Así que me dije: hazte algo para los vaqueros. Si hasta los botones de los mismos tono tienes! Y me contesté: ¡Vale! pero que sea facilito y raro, sobre todo raro!

So I said to myself: make a shirt to go with jeans. You even have the buttons in the exact same shades. And I answered (to myself, naturally) Alright! just something easy and weird, yeah! I like unusual.

Lo que mejor se me ha dado ha sido casar los cuadros.
Las solapillas esas van flotando por la vida. A mi amiga Luz le ha encantado la camisa...porque a ella tambien le gusta lo raro ;)

The best thing I made here was matching the plaids.
Those little "lapels" go floating about, but they don´t do weird things. You see, nothing happens when you pose yourself silly!

Cosas que destacar: Es muy facil de hacer. Tiene unas pinzas verticales anchisimas en el delantero, y más discretas por detras.
A quien se la recomiendo: a alguien que quiera hacer su primera camisa sin meterse en idems de once varas: te ahorras los cuellos y las aberturas de las mangas...y a quien le agobien los cuellos en general.

Stand out features of this pattern: Easy to sew. It has really wide vertical darts on the front and thinner in the back.
Recommended to: Someone who is thinking of making their first shirt without the fuss of making a proper neck band or sleeve-cuffs. Also to those of you that don´t feel comfortable with neckbands in general

 

Quiero presentaros a nuestro nuevo miembro de la familia: Se llama Marte y la recogimos en el refugio de animales de Algeciras donde los voluntarios hacen un trabajo extraordinario, y donde hay muchos perros y gatos esperando ser adoptados.

 

 I want to introduce a new member of our family. Her name is Marte. We got her from a dog shelter. She is two years old and such a good girl!

De Camarera a Agricultora. From Waitress to Farmer

¿Os acordais del modelo de camarera? La falda la he puesto varias veces pero la camisa no, por que no sienta en el cuello. A las pruebas me remito. Ni abriendo los botones, ni tirando de aqui y allá, nada, sobra tela.

Do you remember my waitress outfit? I´ve worn the skirt a couple of times but not the shirt. The neck is just not right. Just look at the photo. I tried wearing it open, tugging here and there. There is just too much fabric in that area.

Y en realidad yo queria el modelo de la siesa.

Besides, what I really wanted at the very beginning was the girl´s shirt

Con todo el dolor de mi corazón le quité el cuello, con lo bien que me habian quedado los picos!

Y le modifiqué la linea de los hombros, también le he recortado el cuello por detras.

It broke my heart to remove my perfectly pointy neckband, I modified the shoulder line and cut some fabric from the back of the neck.

 

Y le hice un cuello extendido. No ha habido forma de encontrar una hebilla para forrar. Al menos en las mercerias donde compro.

I made a new and extended neckband, but I couldn´t find any buckles for it at my notions store.

Claramente ahora no la puedo cerrar hasta arriba, pero los cuellos cerrados me agobian un poco en verano. Con los shorts vaqueros queda mona. Y mi marido se ha fijado en la camisa sin necesidad de agobiarle con el "Mira,mira lo que he hecho, ¿te gusta?"

Clearly I cannot close it completely now but, well, it´s almost summer! It looks cute with shorts, AND my husband noticed it without me going "look, look what I made, do you like it?"

¡Y que tomates tengo, oiga! Si parecen de Conil!

My tomatoes are growing so fast, the little darlings!

¿Como he llegado a hacerme un uniforme de camarera?
Primero quise hacerme la camisa del Burda y compré la tela de rayitas que es algo elástica.
Mirando el patrón vi que el cuello iba cosido directamente al cuerpo de la camisa, sin tira intermedia y no me gustó nada, así que me acordé del patron V8772 que tenía una blusa entallada con muchas variantes.
Al mismo tiempo salió el Patrones y me enamoré del modelo de la rubia, pero la camisa no tenia ni una pinza, así que deseché la idea pero me quedé con la idea de los bolsillos, y con la falda tal cual.
Pero claro, ya no tenia tela suficiente. Y en la tienda ya no les quedaba. A grandes males, grandes remedios. Me llevé un piqué de lunarcitos con los mismos tonos que la otra.

How did I ended up sewing a waitress uniform?
First I wanted to make that Burda shirt and bought the fabric: thin stripes with some elasticity to it.
Looking at the pattern I realized that the collar had no collar band and I didn´t like it. I remembered then V8772 that is a fitted shirt with many variations.
At that moment Patrones Magazine was out and I fell in love with the blonde´s coordinate. The shirt in this magazine had no darts (???) but I wanted the pockets and the skirt.
Now I hadn´t enough fabric, nor had the fabric store where I bought it, so I´ve got a piqué in the same shades.

El patrón de la camisa tiene pinzas hasta en los hombros, creo que eso hace que luego esté un poco desbocada por el cuello

The shirt pattern has darts on the shoulders back. I think that makes it open  at the collar , or maybe it is the stiffness of the fabric

¡Otra cremallera invisible! Y la abertura de la falda me ha quedado bastante bien. Lo que no consigo es que me salgan las pinzas sin bolsas.

Another invisible zipper, yay! And the vent on the skirt went pretty well too. What I don´t like are my darts.

A las carteras se me olvidó ponerle entretela. Pero a las dos piezas del cuello no.

I forgot to interface the pockets...but not the collar!

Me encantan mis botoncitos forrados. No sabía que eran tan baratos de hacer! Solo 15 céntimos cada uno.

I love my cute little covered buttons! I didn´t know it was so cheap to make them! Only 15 cts each.

Los bolsillos originales del modelo de patrones eran una barbaridad de grandes. Los recorté para que fueran más discretos y quedaran entre el final de las pinzas.

The original shirt pocket were too big. I wanted something more discreet, so I cut them to fit at the end of the two darts on the front

Y el bajo de lujo. Tenía un trozo de bies satinado...¡vale! es crema y no blanco como debería pero ¡hay que ahorrar!

Another nice touch! I encased the raw hem line with bias tape...Alright! It should have been white but I already had this one.

El bajo de la camisa lo corté 10 cm porque con lo apretá que es la falda se notaba mucho.

I had to cut the shirt hem 10 cm. The skirt is tight and it showed to much crushed fabric underneath
