Me-Made-May ´14 and Pattern Making

¡Hola guapas! Una cosa rapidita antes de que empiecen las vacaciones de Semana Santa y desaparezca del mapa y el mundo blogeril.
Primero contaros que, por tercer año consecutivo, me he apuntado al Me-Made-May de Zoe, cada año, el 31 de Mayo me he dicho "nunca maix" pero después pico...¿Por qué? porque siempre descubres blogs nuevos y haces amistades, a nivel más personal te das cuenta de lo que falta en tu armario, y sobre todo tienes 31 dias de hacerte selfies ¡ja! Un poco estresante, si, pero ya que te vas a hacer una foto, te arreglas, así que Mayo es mi mes más arreglao. No me pillarás sin rimmel en las pestañas.
El año pasado, para no aburriros con el tema, no os fuí contando, pero aquí os dejo un pequeño resumen del M.M.M del 2013. ¿Otra razón más para participar? M.M.M. son mis iniciales :D

Hello dears! Just a quick thing before the Easter holiday start and I disappear from the blogging world.
Firstly, for the third year I´m in Zoe´s Me-Made-May. Each year when the month ends I say "This is the last one" because it is difficult to keep up with the flickr group and also take a photo every day while trying to look good in it. That means make up...or sunglasses. Well, a bit stressing. But then I also meet a lot of new bloggers and I can see and get inspired by many, many lovely makes they show us. 
Last year I didn´t post about it, not to bore you too much, so here is a little recap of my MMM 13.
Another reason to participate? M.M.M. are my initials? :D

Últimamente no estoy cosiendo mucho, el tiempo de costura lo estoy dedicando a hacer patrones con este curso de CRAFTSY . 

I´m not sewing much, lately. All my sewing-time goes into learning pattern making with Suzy Furrer who is a wonderful teacher. She is very clear and all her instructions make sense in my little brain, that is not the best for numbers. You can check it out here at CRAFTSY

Llevo ya unas cuantas muselinas y creo que me voy acercando.Al principio tenía la longitud de espalda muy larga y el pecho muy alto. Ahora mismo estoy arreglando un problemilla de hombro y ya estará todo listo para pasarlo al patrón base definitivo.

I´ve done several muslins. In the first one the bust was too high and the back too long. I went back to drafting from scratch, with more accurate measures, and got number two. I thought the waist was sitting too high but I was wrong. On number three I´ve got a shoulder problem that I think I figured out and now I´m really close to draw the sloper. 

Espero poder hacerme algún vestidín antes que termine el verano...por que la clase de las mangas todavía no ha salido :D

Feliz Semana Santa a todas y acordaos de estrenar alguna cosa el Domingo de Ramos. Yo os lo recuerdo, luego cada una...

¡Hola amigas! Os he estado amenazando con contaros nuestro viaje a Londres el pasado Agosto. Fuimos las chicas de la casa: mi madre, mi hija y yo... ¡Y nos lo pasamos pipa!  En cada uno de mis embarazos (dos) he ido con mi madre a algún sitio, solitas las dos: La primera vez estuvimos en Paris, y la segunda en Roma. La experiencia se tenía que repetir, pero claro, lo de embarazarse una otra vez, pues no, que ya tengo el cupo cubierto. Así que la excusa fué el viaje generacional. 

Hello friends! I´ve been threatening to tell you about my visit to London last August. It was a generational trip: my mother, my daughter and me...and we had a great time! My mum and I have been traveling toguether in the past but this year we thought it was time to take the little one with us.

Una semanita allí nos dió para ver todo. Hicimos el tour del bus, del barco por el Támesis...

A whole week there is time enough to see a lot of things! We did the Big Bus thing and the boat thing...

Las tiendas, of course. A Liberty´s creo que fuí tres o cuatro veces. Allí me encontré con la encantadora Kathryn, que conocí en el Me-Made-May de este año, estabamos tan absorbidas con las telas (y los precios, por Dios, por Dios) que se me olvidó hacernos una foto. Llegó con su barriguita de cinco meses...desde luego que guapas estamos las mujeres embarazadas ¿a que sí?

We hit the shops, (three women, remember :) I went to Liberty´s three or four times and only bought a sewing gauge, can you believe it? I met there the lovely Kathryn, whom I met during the MMM 13. I guess I had the camara hanging on my shoulder but I absolutely forgot to take a picture of us. I just loved listening her talking with her lovely accent and we had very little time as the both my daughter and mother were left alone in another shop, Hemley´s and I was worried they´d got lost.

Nos hicimos unos cuantos museos a conciencia: El British, el de Historia Natural, la Torre de Londres, la National Gallery...

We did the museum thing: British Museum, Natural History Museum, the Tower of London, the National Gallery...you name it!

Mi museo favorito: El Victoria&Albert. Además de todos los vestidos de épocas diferente había una exhibición de la moda de los 80. A ver! no me la podía perder. Pero ahí no me dejaron hacer fotos.

And my absolute favourite: The Victoria&Albert Museum. There was an exhibition from which I couldn´t take photos, about the 80´s fashion. Amazing!

Y la niña flipó con los parques. Ardillas, cisnes, ocas...vimos hasta un zorro!

 And we visited the parks. My daughter enjoyed it there...oh,yes! Specially the squirrels!

Y también tuve la suerte de encontrarme con Pauline de P´s Thrifty Sewing Blog. Que mujer tan fantástica y llena de vitalidad. Y lo bien que cose. Si hasta se hizo su vestido de boda junto con los de las damas de honor! Y que cutis!

Aaand, I was so very lucky to meet Pauline, from  P´s Thrifty Sewing Blog, I was in awe of her vitality! She is such an acomplished seamstress, she made her own wedding dress along with the ones for her maids and little ones, she sews shirts for her husband...I love her blog! Thank you so much for making time for us!

Y despues de este bombardeo de imagenes londinenses os tengo que decir que el viaje tambien ha sido muy inspirador, y que me ha servido para coser mi aportación al Maratón de Telaria...Y hasta aquí puedo deciros.

Este post no tiene nada que ver con la costura, aviso!
Es para dar las gracias a todas estas personas que me mantienen en forma. Vale que la monitora soy yo, pero sin ellos y su energía no haría ni la mitad. No importa que ande flojilla o medio pachucha, en cuanto los tengo en frente y les veo darlo todo me da un subidón que se me quita cualquier mal rollo.

Gracias chicos por haber aguantado hasta el final, gracias por seguir ahí incluso cuando tuvimos problemillas con las bicis, gracias por toda la energía positiva que derrochais y por ser tan constantes.
Ha sido un año fantástico y espero veros en Septiembre si hay suerte.
Ahora...¡a lucir los resultados en la playa!

This is a not-sewing-related post.
This one is to thank all those people that joined my spinning classes and held on to the end, which will be tomorrow.
I thank them to keep me fit, to give me all that positive energy, to inspire me to look for suitable music constantly, and to make me very happy to be in their company. 
I hope to see them all next September and until then... Keep moving!

What I do when I cannot Sew. Lo que da una semana sin coser.

¡Hola! He estado unos diez dias alejada de mi máquina de coser y de internet y aunque tengo que admitir que fué bastante liberador los tres primeros dias, una obsesión tiene muchos recursos para materializarse de otras formas.
Por ejemplo. Mis sobrinas adoran sus Cuadernos Top-Model, pero no les queda más remedio que dejar a su tiíta algunas páginas para ayudarla a paliar el sindrome de abstinencia. Tres para la "mamma", dos para la peque, que egoista!

I´ve been ten days away from the sewing machine, away from the internet and although I have to admit it was quite liberating, at least the first three days, an obsession always gets a way to materialize itself in different forms. 
For instance: doodling. My nephews are loving their Top Model pads over any other posession, but they let their poor aunty to use some of the pages to help her with the withdrawal symptoms. Can you recognize some Vogues in there?

Plans and Proyects for 2013

Feliz Año a tutti quanti!

Por fín he terminado de deshacer las maletas y ordenar la vida un poco y tengo tiempo para deciros lo que he estado haciendo  ultimamente. No mucho.Pensar.

Cuando estaba cosiendo el Black Coat tuve una revelación: Me he dado cuenta que necesito un reto en cada cosa que hago. Aunque sea uno pequeñito.

Tambien me he dado cuenta que los Burdas me estresan. Me agobia pensar todo lo que me gustaria hacer y al final paso mas tiempo babeando las revistas que cosiendo. Este año NO BURDA. (ni otros patrones)

Quiero hacer cosas nuevas y usar mis patrones antiguos.

Finally the suitcases are empty, and I have time to tell you what I´ve been up too, lately. Not much really.

I had an "epiphany" while sewing the Black Coat, and I´ve been thinking a lot about what I want from the sewing activity this year.

I realized I´m not happy when I work in my "comfort zone". So this year I won´t be buying any Burdas, or any other patterns. They stress me no end: So many pretty things!

 I want to try new things and use the patterns and fabrics I already have.

I have 6 big wool balls like this, and I´m learning the basic stitches. 

ROPA INTIMA

Ya he estado practicando el modelo braguita y el tanga. Practico con las camisetas horrendas que encuentro en el armario de mi marido. Así mato dos pájaros de un tiro: Aprender y terminar con la horrendez. En un par de camiseta espero poder estar en situación de usar el material bueno.

Tambien voy a intentar lo de los "sujes"

UNDERWEAR

I´ve been trying to work this out, using the most hideous t-shirts my husband treasures in his cupboard. It´s a win-win situation. Learning how to make panties and getting rid of the hideousness.

In a couple of t-shirts I´ll be able to use the "good stuff"

I´ve been following Rosy´s tutorials over at Sewingadicta, on how to take measures, and how to draft a basic pattern.

I think I will be needing that if I want to work with this!

Este (y otro que falta que aun no ha llegado) son mis reyes, que los camellos se han quedado tirados.

Este lo he recibido hoy y lo llevo conmigo a todas partes, para echarle un vistazo de vez en cuando. ¡Soy feliz solo con tenerlo en las manos!

This (and another pattern magic that still hasn´t make its appearance) is my belated Christmas present.

I got it in my mail today and I´ve been carrying it around, to peek through the pages from time to time. It makes me happy just to touch it!

Pues nada eso es todo por el momento. Era para dar una prueba de vida, más que nada ;)

El Mal de Ojo Costurero y Problema Resuelto.Sewing Curse and Problem Solved.

Ya estamos calentando motores para la fiesta de Halloween, esa fiesta tan nuestra, tan de aquí. ; P

Bueno, todo vale si eso sirve para que se diviertan los niños. 

Más de acuerdo con Todos los Santos, el pasado Domingo estuve en Gibraltar. Si alguna vez vais por ahí, no olvideis daros una vuelta por el Jardin Botanico. 

Ya hace más frio y me empeñé en llevar el vestido de flores, y por fín he encontrado el modo de llevarlo para este tiempo. ¡Con chaqueta! Es que yo soy más de rebequita, ;) Pero me gustó el "look" así que se alarga la vida util del vestido.

Halloween is just around the corner, Not a big thing in Spain some years ago, growing on us lately on account of the little ones. 

What we sure do in Spain is visit our cemeteries on All Saints day.  

Last Sunday we went to Gibraltar. The Botanic Garden and the Trafalgar cemetery are a joy to see.

It is colder now but I still wanted to wear my floral dress, and I found a way! with this grey jacket I had for ages, but never use. I´m not a "jacket person" but I´ll make an exception just to make the dress wearable in the cold

Y mirad el complemento de Halloween que me he echado: un derrame en el ojo (¿De tanto coser?) pero como yo soy así de chula, me ha salido con forma de estrella. El médico dice que no es nada, que pasa a veces  y no tiene ninguna relacion pero yo sé que es " EL MAL DE OJO COSTURERO"  Uhhhh! ¡Que miedito!

And just look at the Halloween prop I´ve got! an eye burst blood vessel. And just because I´m so neat I´ve got it in the shape of a star. The doctor says this happens sometimes, not to worry but I know this is the "Too Much Sewing Curse"

La Mujer más Guapa del Mundo. The Most Beautiful Woman

Todas las mamás son las mujeres mas guapas del mundo para sus hijas , por lo menos hasta los 12 o 13 años, pero yo ya tengo muchos más y sigo pensando lo mismo.

All mums are the  most beautifull women for their daughters, at least until they enter the teenage years. Well, I´m well past those year and I still think the same way. Just look for yourselves

We share a liking for printed trousers. But she´s stylish even straight out of bed. By the way, if you´ve seen a fabric like the one in my mum´s trousers, please let me know! I need it!

Otro dia, otra playa. Hoy es Liencres, otro playa surfera de las afueras de Santander.
Another day, another surf spot. Today it´s Liencres, a beach outside Santander.

Terminé la falda Vogue 1247 y estoy encantada con el resultado. Por el color la puedo llevar con los dos tops 1247.
I finished vogue 1247 skirt, and I´m very happy with the result. I like the colour because I can wear it with both 1247 tops.

La verdad es que nunca hubiera reparado en este patrón si no llega a ser pr Carolyn. Echad un vistazo a sus versiones:

Otra modificacion que tuve que hacer fué alargar las pinzas, una vez terminada la falda, para evitar unas bolsas horizontales.

Another alteration was lengthening the front darts, once the skirt was finished to avoid some ugly widthwise baggyness.

Vacaciones y Sorpresas Burda. Holiday and Burda (Spain) Surprise

¡No ha pasado ni una semana y ya os echaba de menos!

Ya hemos llegado a Santander y con buen tiempo (increible). He tenido problemas con internet...o falta del mismo. Pero mi amiga Ana que es un sol y tiene soluciones para todo hoy mismo tomando una tapita me ha dicho: "Ah, usa este pincho" y ya estoy conectada.! Gracias!

Not a week went by and I was missing this already!

I´m spending the summer months in my hometown, Santander and the weather so far has been fantastic. I had problems with the internet conection, or the lack of it, but it was timely solved by my friend Ana who gave me one of those things you plug to your computer... Don´t know the name of it. I´m connected , hurray!

Estaba deseando ponerme en contacto con todas vosotras por que al final piqué con el Burda 07-2012, y por lo visto se han modernizado y tienen Facebook y todo.

Pero despues, hojeando la revista veo esto:

This is what I´ve found inside the Burda Magazine this month. Apparently they have Facebook now and they want to send them photos of our creations from where to choose some and feature them in their facebook page as well as in the magazine. Is this happening in other countries too?

Se lee bastante bien, ¿no?. Hasta el 20 de Julio, mandar una foto con el modelito, en la calle, de dia y de cuerpo entero indicando numero revista y patrón a burdaespana@tailormade.pt. Se seleccionaran varios modelos para el Facebook y uno de ellos saldrá en la revista...¿Que os parece? ¿Nos animamos?

Por otro lado sigo con alguna cosita aunque muuuy despacio. Estoy ahora con esta falda Vogue 1247, que va con el top bautizado como La Refinitiva, y me gusta mucho por que es una falda sencilla pero con acabados Hong-Kong y la parte de los bolsillos es muy original. Cuando esté terminada prometo reportaje por Santander, más por enseñaros la tierruca, que la falda.

Primera vista: Playa de los Tranquilos, al otro lado de la bahia se ve el palacio de la Magdalena y la ciudad de Santander.

 A sneak peak of the area. This is Los Traquilos beach (Tranquilo means quiet, but this is a surfing spot, so it´s not really quiet). At the other side of the bay you can see the city of Santander and the Magdalena Palace.
