Negroni in Java Wax

Vengo a contaros que me enamoré en París.

 No es extraño; la ciudad del amor y todo eso (o era de la luz? o de la moda? Que lío!). Pero es que yo me he enamorado de las telas africanas. 

Primero fuí, como me aconsejaron, a la PLACE SAINT PIERRE. Tiendas grandísimas y llenas de telas preciosas, pero nada muy diferente a lo que puedes encontrar, pongamos, en Madrid.

Sin embargo, de la que iba para la plaza, encontré un montón de tiendas que sí me entraron por el ojo. Como para no! Metros y metros de tela de algodón en colores vibrantes y con unos prints geométicos preciosos y esperando a que alguien lo transforme en algo bonito. Me apunto!!

Ese barrio de París, que os aconsejo que visitéis, se llama LA GOUTTE D'OR tiene un alto porcentaje de habitantes africanos y es famoso por su mercado al aire libre.

Las tiendas no te venden menos de 5 metros y medio de la misma tela, eso es un concepto un poco raro, lo se, pero si vierais lo que se hacen las habitantes del barrio con ellas lo comprenderíais. 

Tengo dos de estas telas. Bueno, tenía, porque ambas están utilizadas. 

Esta es la primera costura que os enseño, pero no la primera que coso.

Esta tela en particular es una Java Wax. Buscaba un estampado y unos colores muy discretos , ya que esta camisa es un regalo para alguien que no acostumbra a usar mucho colorín. 

Ever since I went to Paris I have fallen in love... with African Wax. 

I first went to PLACE SAINT PIERRE, lots of fabric shops there, but nothing too far removed from what you can find at home. 

However, on my way to that place, I found several shops that really caught my eye; how wouldn´t they? All those meters of vibrant colours waiting to be  transformed into something pretty!

That neighbourhood of Paris is called LA GOUTTE D'OR and has large numbers of North-Africans and sub-Saharian residents and it is known for its open-air market. 

The shops sell fabrics but not by the meter,you have to buy all six yards of it; a concept totally new to me, but quite understandable if you have a look around and see how the ladies in the neighbourhood are using theirs. 

I have two of them, and I´ve already used both. This is the first thing I show you, but not the first I make, but being so summery I'll wait for better weather.

This particular one is called Java Wax. I was looking for a unisex print, and not too loud. You see: this shirt is not for me, it is a present for someone who is not very used to colours.

Así que parte del metraje de esta preciosidad se ha ido en una COLETTE'S NEGRONI. Me encanta coser esta camisa. Las instrucciones son tan buenas que es un verdadero placer hacerla desde la primera puntada.

Estoy mejorando mucho con las costuras vaqueras (la famosa flat-felled seam) que hacen que quede el interior muy profesional.

So I transformed part of the yardage into a COLETTE'S NEGRONI . I love making this shirt. The instructions are so very good that it is a real pleasure to sew it up from the first to the last stitch.

I'm getting better at flat-felled seams...

Y en los pespuntes decorativos. Vale que no se puede apreciar mucho por las fotos, y que es en blanco, pero creedme: Estupendas!

And mastering top-stitching too! Sadly, you can't appreciate it fully from the photos, but you can take my word for it!

Lo que más me gusta es hacer los puños con esas aberturas. Hacer camisas me parece lo más "técnico" dentro del mundo costuril y muy gratificante.

Just looooved making those cuffs! Shirt making is quite technical, if you know what I mean. But utterly rewarding.

Aprovecho el viaje para mostraros mi nuevo bolso primavera/verano: LE SAC BY CHARO MURCIANO. Un bolso grande y estiloso, perfecto para llevar todas mis cosas, que siempre son muchas. Tenía una versión invernal de Le Sac, pero terminó la temporada en un estado lamentable de tanto uso, y como me pareció tan cómodo he tenido que repetir. Lo bueno es que tenía en casa todo el material ¡hasta la cremallera roja y los botones de cierre!

And I also take the chance  to show you my new bag for the Spring/Summer season: LE SAC BY CHARO MURCIANO. A roomy, yet easy to wear bag perfect for carrying all my stuff. I had a winter version that got really worn and I found it so useful that I HAD to make this one. The good part is that I had all the materials at home!

Pues eso es todo. Como ya viene siendo habitual, pediros disculpas por no estar muy presente en el mundo blogeril. Abro mi bloglovin y me asusto de la cantidad de entradas que escribis, y a veces intento ponerme al día, pero solo hay 24 horas en un día y asuntos más urgentes me tienen ocupada.

Este año ni siquiera podré participar en ZOE'S ME-MADE-MAY, con lo que lo disfruto. 

En fin. No os voy a llorar más que sé que vosotras ya sabeis que es eso de estar ocupada.

I'm also sorry about not being able to participate this year in ZOE'S ME-MADE-MAY. I´ve been there three years in a row and it breaks my heart not doing it again, but free time has become a commodity.

Casting Maratón Telaria

¡Ay, que no llego! Tanta correr, tanto correr y luego llego justita a las citas costureras. Bueno, esta vez la culpa ha sido de mis modelos que son muy divos ellos. ¡Vamos que me hubiera sido más facil pedirle cita a Jon Kortajarena  y a Andrés Velencoso que a los hombres de mi casa! 
Al final mi muy cooperativa hija, ha modelado la camisa por su padre.

Gosh! I run so much and still I barely make it for the sewing dates! Well, this time it is my models´ fault! They are such stars! I think it could have been easier to ask Jon Kortajarena and Andres Velencoso to model the shirts for me than my two men! Fortunately my very cooperative daughter modelled her dad´s shirt.

Como veis, para el CASTING TELARIA había que crear algo de inspiración nautica, lo mejor del caso es que a Miren ya le había pedido la tela de algodón OKI OUTREMER que lleva azul, blanco y rojo, así que me ha venido que ni pintado. Vale, no son rayas, pero son colores marineros ¿no?
Desde luego no les voy a perder de vista en la feria a ninguno de los dos, son un par de banderas con piernas :)

For the CASTING TELARIA we had to create something nautical, the best part is that I had already asked Miren for this cotton fabric OKI OUTREMER that has white, red and blue in it, so perfect! Stripes would have been nautical-er but still those are nautical colours, right?
Sure thing I won´t lost sight of them at the fair, they will be a couple of flags on two legs

La camisa de padre está hecha con los patrones de ESTE/THIS libro de patrones japonés de camisas. Muy informativo, dos tipos de camisa, un montón de opciones de cuello...estoy encantada. Fué un premio de otro de los retos de Miren y desde luego fué un regalazo. Lo único que le veo es que de talla va un poco pequeño, pero eso con subir a la talla siguiente, arreglado.

The dad´s shirt has been made with the patterns that come in ESTE/THIS book. I love the book, it is so informative, a lot of options...really love it. It was a price I won in the "Sewing for Men" challenge also hosted by Telaria. The only "but" about this book is the sizing, I think they are too small.

Yo le he hecho a mi marido la talla L, pero él dice que hubiera sido más cómoda para él una XL...¡pues ya puede ponerse a dieta, porque ya no hay arreglo!

I made my husband size L, but he says he would have been happier with an XL...well, he better start on a diet, because there is not fixing it now!

Me quedé un poco corta de tela  y le tuve que añadir una que me había sobrado de ESTE/THIS vestido para las vistas.

I had not enough fabric and I had to use some remaining from ESTE/THIS  dress for the facings

Just For Men de Telaria: Negroni

Coser para mi marido no es facil. Supongo que no lo es para ninguno en general. Pero esta vez le ha gustado el resultado y solo espero que se ponga esta camisa, porque lleva mucho cariño y atención. Más que cuando coso para mí.

Sewing for husbands is no easy task. At least for me. But this time I think I succeded and he is really happy with his new shirt. He´d better!! I put a lot of love attention into making it. Much more than when I sew for myself!

Yo elegí esta pana suavita y la tela para los detalles , algodón floreado, no me convenció mucho al principio, pero ahora con los botones y el hilo a juego me encanta.

I chose this  grey corduroy and flowery cotton for the facings and detail trying to think "like a man" Gosh, that´s difficult! When I got home I wasn´t very confident that I made the right choice, but once I found those buttons and the matching thread...Love!!

Para construirla seguí las indicaciones del patrón paso por paso, pero para los detalles del topstitching y de la forma de planchar mientra cosía usé los métodos que incluyen la clase 40 TECHNIQUES EVERY SEWER SHOULD KNOW BY GAIL YELLEN

For the construction, I followed Colette instructions religiously but for the details, more specifically, the top stitching, I used what I´m learning from 40 TECHNIQUES EVERY SEWER SHOULD KNOW BY GAIL YELLEN

El interior de la tela casi me gusta tanto como el exterior.

Burda 06/2011 Camisa Lino Hombre. Men´s Linen Shirt

El verano pasado hice una tontería. Coser algo para mi marido ( aparte de sus trajes de neopreno)
Con el Burda de Junio en la mano, y ya de vacaciones, veo esto:

Last summer I did something a bit dumb. Sewing for my husband (apart from his diving wetsuits)
With June´s Burda in hand, I saw this picture:

¿Cuantos patrones trae el Burda para chicos? ¿Uno o ninguno? Pues como mi marido es así morenito y con los dientes muy blancos y perfectos me dije a mi misma: Pa su cumple, ¡ea! Que le va a quedar divino
How many men´s patterns are there in a Burda each month? One maybe...none? So as my husband has a deep tan and very white and perfect teeth I said to myself: Let´s sew this for his birthday. He´ll be grand in this.
Me encanta trabajar con lino. Se corta y se cose maravillosamente, no da problemas de nada y casi siempre sienta bien.
El patrón es muy fácil y la construcción tambien. Es más hay una versión femenina que creo que me haré este año.
I love working with linen. No problems with cutting, marking or sewing, and it looks good.
The pattern is easy and so is the construction. There is a femenine version of it, and I think I´ll make it for next summer.

Hay que tener en cuenta que para mi marido la moda no importa. Si no tiene agujeros, es ponible. Y su fondo de armario consiste en un monton de camisetas y pantalones cortos en verano.
Así que cuando se vió con esta camisa puesta, me dió las gracias y me dijo: mejor que no me lo ponga, que con la cara que yo tengo y esta camisa me van a pedir los papeles cada dos por tres. Y la verdad es que tenía cierto aire de Principe Alí.
Pero yo no lo iba a dejar aparcado en el armario. Con los vaqueros, perfecto!
My husband doesn´t care about fashion. If it isn´t broken, he can wear it. His summer wardrobe is a lot of t-shirts and shorts. So he didn´t feel very confortable wearing this( He said he looked like Prince Ali)  What´s a girl to do? Roll up the sleeves and wear it with jeans!
