Telaria &...Me!

¡Hola amigas!
Problema resuelto

Hello friends!
Gosh, this is very exciting!
When Miren of Telaria contacted me to collaborate in her proyect, I just couldn´t believe it. Such a lucky girl, me! She allowed complete freedom, to choose from all her awesome fabrics to create whatever we felt like. I started looking for patterns and browsing her site, and there the problems began: I like ALL of them fabrics!
And, if you know me a little, you know how indecisive I am, poor Miren had to put up with all my asking and doubts until this arrived on the mail, among my last Vogue order. Problem solved!

Vogue 1350 Rachel Comey

Miren herself advised me this fabric, and as soon as I saw it I fell in love, those delicate flowers on the mustard (or is it honey?) background were perfect for the dress. When it arrived home and I touched it, I was surprised by its softness. All the cottons I worked with before were stiffer. I washed it and started to work. Very easy to cut, to sew and iron. Very convenient, as this pattern has a couple of tricky, angled seams.

Pattern Description: Lined dress has yoke fronts extending into sleeves, close-fitting bodice with side back seams, raised waist, semi-fitted skirt, side front extends to lower side back, no side seams, mock front bands, and concealed snap closing.

Pattern Sizing: 6-22. I used my usual 12, normally I have to take in the seams. But this was  just perfect. Actually I think I will have to start to watch what I am eating if I want to wear it this summer.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Pretty much. Mine is shorter

Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes, but there is a lack of explanation when it comes to the most difficult part, that is attaching the yoke-sleeve to the front. Same goes to the side back. I think they should have said that you should reinforce and clip before sewing

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Love the bodice design. And the skirt front ending in the back. I would have love some little pockets, though. And although I had to sew the snaps several times before getting it right, I like that kind of clean closing on the front

Fabric Used: 100% Cotton . Bohemian Charms colour honey from the Bijoux collection. From Telaria

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I shortened the hem by 7 cm. I didn´t use hammer-on snaps, but the regular ones.
And I had to add an extra hook and eye at chest level.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I´d love to try a colour-block version of this. And yes, I do recommend it. Very elegant. Great fit

Conclusion: This is going to be my Summer 2013 dress for sure. It is comfortable, easy to wear and as it is cotton I feel like I can take it from day to night and look appropiate all along.

Tela usada: ¿Que pregunta?

No me atrevería.

Conclusión: Me encanta.

The lining. The cotton feels so soft against my skin, I´m tempted of wearing it like this :D

¡Felices Vacaciones a todas! ¡Ya llegó el sol!

Happy Summer Holidays! Hurray, the Sun is here!

¡GRACIAS MIREN!

THANK YOU MIREN!

Sewing the Trends Summer 2013. Floral Shorts

When Justine from Sew County Chick asked me to take part on her series I accepted inmediately. I admire her so much! Not only she has a great site where she shares all her crafty ideas with all of us, she is a seriously beautiful mother of five and  still she has time to create pretty clothes for her daughters and herself. I don´t know how she does it!

I don´t usually follow the trends, but from time to time ( at the hairdresser, normally) I get to read some fashion magazines and realize what´s on or off. From this season I like the bold and big stripes trend. Unfortunately, the shops where I get my fabric never follow any trend. At all.
They should visit the hairdresser more often, I think.

As much as I love wearing dresses in the Summer, I can´t live without shorts. Comfortable, cool and easy to wear. I went looking for the latest shorts trend in this is what I´ve got. My shops can do floral too!

Fabric in hand (just a meter, another great thing about shorts ;) I went looking for a pattern. And this one appealed me for all the pretty little details... Not that you get to notice them with the busy print, but I know they are there and that makes me happy.

 Revista Patrones Casual n. 27
As you can see, sharp seamstresses, the technical drawing is not the one from the shorts the model is wearing. Yep! The waistband. On the model it sits at hip-level, whereas in the drawing you can see it is a high-waisted  pattern. By the way, lovely eyebrows, aren´t they?

This is what I got, ladies, and upon my word I feel sooo trendy!

No way of matching this print. Loved sewing all the 9 tabs, any of wich is exactly like the next ;)

Personalizadas, claro. No hay ni una que sea igual que otra :D

Bought the sandals specially. Cute but not for rock climbing
Sandalias nuevas. Monas, pero no para escalar.

Peeble throwing, another eternal summer trend!
Oh the top! I actually made This/ Este Top using matching colours for the embroidery. But the´re is no way you´ll see me wearing that thing just yet. Instead I´m wearing This One from last summer.

I hope you liked it. And if you are curious about this Series here are the participants, check them out, they have gorgeous ideas about this Summer Trends!
And thank you Justine, it has been so much fun!

Hello!
This morning I went to buy some tracing paper and to have a look at the latest Burda issue. I don´t buy Burdas since last December (But to be on a diet doesn´t mean you can´t have a look at the menu ;)
Right beside it, there was number 29 of easy sew from Patrones. Oh, and that came home with me. Why?

First: a lot of easy, casual things

Segundo y más importante. BIKINIS!

Secondly and more importantly: BIKINIS! And in different shapes. They even feature a brazilian bikini bottom, cutting edge, way to go Patrones!

I like the design of the one on the left. The one on the right is a classic

Very unfortunate pose, girl on the left! The one on the right is the one with the brazilian bottom and I like the top design.

¿Que más cositas? A ver a ver:

What else? Let´s see:

Otro bikini y pantalones cargo fáciles. Para andar por la playa. Y con esa blusa finita: Perfecto

Another bikini and cargo pants. Perfect for the beach. And that long blouse. Like it!

There is a white section. The photo on the right reminds me of Yoshimi during MMM 13. But
 she buttons up her shirts!

A section of tops and company. I didn´t know that kind of pants are called Pantacourts. But they are.
And what about the striped top? Do the boobs really have to be at that level? I´ve seen the effect in the streets, on girls wearing similar tops but I found it very unflattering!

La sección Urbano Minimal. Lo que quiera que eso signifique.
Me gusta el camisero de la izquierda

The Urban Minimal section. Whatever would it mean...
I like the shirt dress on the left

I´m guessing "minimal" is for the lenght of the skirts

I like everything from here except the lenght on the dress. Girl you´ll catch your death on that!

And this one is the part that I will treasure. It talks about try-outs. First and second and how to adjust the possible problems. Really useful. Love it!

Y eso es todo lo que me ha dado la revista de sí. Besitos y buenas noches

And this is all I´ve got, friends. Good night!

Peasant Blouse...What Was I Thinking!

¿Quieres parecer salida Woodstock?

Would you like to make your assets look bigger without going under the knife?
Would your like to look you´re right out of Woodstock?
Do you like Mexican-folk vibe?
If your answer is yes to any of those questions, this could be the blouse for you.
And let´s not get into the sleeves thing just jet!
Just look at the Burda model, looking so casual chic in her top. One of those things to throw on in the mornings. Cotton batiste it is. Fresh!

http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/072010-tunic-top

Este es el dibujo técnico:

Technical drawing (I should have known better!)
BurdaStyle 07/2010 #106
Y esto soy yo. Algo ha ido realmente mal:

And this is me. Something went completely wrong here:
1. My batiste must be different from hers. Mine has more body to it. Besides that, as I´m so bad at gathering I pleated the "skirt" part.
2. The sleeves. I did gather those, But, my gosh, they´re HUGE! They are bell-sleeves. Like in Notre-Dame bells? They could house a party for Quasimodo and his gargoyle friends :)

The ammount of make up I wear is proportional to the excitement I get when the garment is finish. Zero this time.

The only good thing: I used, at last, some of the decorative stitches in my sewing machine. Very entertaining!

Mal. Despues recortándolas un poco. Peor.
Finalmente las he descosido y lo he cerrado con bies azul marino.
De eso no hay fotos. Con estas ya os haceis una idea. ¿no?

I tried fixing the sleeves, gathering the bottom in a cuff. No way! Then cutting them shorter...they were sticking out. So I just removed them and finished the edged with navy blue bias tape. I didn´t take photos of that. You can have an idea just looking at these!
See you soon, hopefully with a nicer proyect!

SpinningMania! Thank You Guys! Gracias Chicos!

This is a not-sewing-related post.
This one is to thank all those people that joined my spinning classes and held on to the end, which will be tomorrow.
I thank them to keep me fit, to give me all that positive energy, to inspire me to look for suitable music constantly, and to make me very happy to be in their company.
I hope to see them all next September and until then... Keep moving!

This is the song that raised their pulse the most!

Silk Halter Top.

¡Hola a todas!
No dejeis de ver Marjorie´s Proyects in BurdaStyle.

Hello everyone! How´s the Spring going? Feeling warm?...Unless you live in other parts where it is the Autumn that you are experiencing at the moment!
I keep on sewing for Spring, and this little piece I bring you is very special to me.
The reason is the fabric: It is silk! Of course not from my local, cheap market. It comes all the way from China via Australia. I thought the Silk Route was a different one ;D
The best part is that this silk is a present from my friend Marjorie. She was one of the first people I met at BurdaStyle, and her friendship is  very dear to me. She is not only generous with her comments and with her time:  she went on a trip to China and she was so thoughtful as to pick this beautiful fabric for me, take it home then send it! Isn´t she the greatest? She is a great sewist too. You just cannot miss Marjorie´s Proyects in BurdaStyle. Her choice of fabrics is always impecable and her blouses and tops are amanzing...oh! And she has a Chanel Style jacket that is to die for!

So here is what I made with the Silk. It goes without saying I was terrified of cutting the fabric, and I wanted to use a simple pattern to let the pretty print shine. I used Patrones Magazine 293 #8.
It is very straightforward halter top, gathered on the upper front  but not in the back, the bow is a wide strip of fabric and so is the bottom band. The front and back go gathered at the bottom.
I made this one  in 2010 for my sister in law. So I thought it would be easy enough. But I didn´t remember that back then, my mother-in-law had to fisnish it because it was too big and the poor girl was swimming in the top.
Problem: As this is a halter top, the armhole is cut almost on the bias...and it keeps growing and stretching when you sew the facings. Didn´t alter that. Instead I decided this is the only top I´ll be wearing bra-less. As long as I behave like a proper lady, and don´t start jumping around everything would look just fine.

I added a wide elastic band in the bottom with my hight-hip measure, otherwise it goes straight to the hip and I like to have my options :)

¿Que os dije de la sisa? Supersepsi!

What did I tell you about the armhole? Sooo sexy!

The bow detail: The ultimate bow-blouse inspirations is this lovely lady: Kirsty of Top Notch
I just love her pussy bow blouses and she looks so good in them!

That´s all from me folks!
and
THANK YOU MARJORIE!
