Rachel Comey, me has fallado.
Mira que me gustan tus patrones, EL ULTIMO PROYECTO que terminé con uno de ellos fué una maravilla. Y ya ni hablar del V 1170 que cada vez que me lo pongo me gusta más. Pero si incluso la falda que me he puesto para las fotos es una de mis favoritas, la del V 1247.
Nunca he tenido que hacer ninguna rectificación, salvo alargar las faldas o meter las costuras un poco, tus tallas suelen ir sin mucha holgura. Con diferencia, mi diseñadora favorita. Hasta hoy.

Rachel Comey: You let me down with this one.
 I love all your patterns,  the LAST PROYECT was a complete success. And V 1170 is just too pretty, both design, contruction and details. Even the skirt I´m wearing for the photos is your very own V 1247, everyone´s favourite.

I never had to make any alterations, other than lengthen the skirts, and the size was almost spot on, taking in a seam or two. Until now

Do you spot the difference between the drawing and the photo?

The straight neckline in the drawing turned a "semi" cowlneck in the photo.

We were warned by Faye of Faye´s Sewing Adventure. And I had to tackle the same problems.

Bueno, es un top más, para llevarlo con esta falda, pero no para volverse loco.

Mejor hago la "review" y concretamos los problemas

Just a cute little top to wear with this skirt. 

Let´s make a review, and we can see the problems in detail.

Pattern Description: Fitted, pullover top has front extending to back with pleats forming shoulder straps, no shoulder seams, very narrow hem finish for straps and neckline and bias drawstring 

Pattern Sizing: 4-20. I made my usual size 12

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? There are some parts that are not alike.  Looks like mine is  longer. And that front neckline!

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were fine. It is a very easy top to put toguether. After you make the pleats and the very thin hems, everything is quite simple. I didn´t like the topstitching on the front pleats. I don´t think it looks nice. I topstitched again on the end of the pleats at the straps.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the feminine look, almost 20s, airy and soft.

I don´t like the result so much.

Fabric Used: It is a kind of crushed crepe from my stash

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: There are two mayor defects on this pattern. The first one, the front neckline: There were 6 cm of "loose" neckline , hanging in there, not a cowl, not a scooped neck, just too much width. If I had to make this one again I´d remove 3 cm from the pattern before cutting the front on the fold. As mine was already cut, and sewn I had to gather the neckline pushing those gathers to the center. If you let the gather go too close to the pleats on the front-staps, it looks weird.

The other one is the armhole. I had to stitch up the side seams 4 cm, and still it is too low, I couldn´t go up any further, as the top was loosing the shape.

I sewed a bra strap holder on the front pleats, otherwise the top won´t stay in place

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I´d recommend it with modifications but I would not sew it again. There are too many cute looking tops out there!

Conclusion: I you want to make this,my advise is: measure. From one bra strap to the other, then the pattern, and make the neccesary adjustments. And mind the side seams if you don´t want to go showing your bra

Descripción del Patrón: Top ajustado (???) sin cierres, el frente se extiende a la espalda formando los tirantes, no lleva costuras en los hombros. Acabados con dobladillo estrecho y cordón ajustable hecho con bies.

Tallas: de la 4 a la 20 Yo he hecho la 12

¿Se parece a la foto del sobre una vez terminado? Algunas partes no se parecen. El mío parece más largo, y el cuello del frente es diferente.

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles de seguir? Sí. Es un top sencillito. Con prestar atención a hilvanar bien los pliegues de los tirantes y aplicarse en hacer el dobladillo, lo demás está "chupao". Pero hay algo que no me parece muy normal: una vez hechos los pliegues de delante, te dice que cosas por encima, en una linea. Así a lo bruto. Pues no sé. Yo volví a coser arriba tambien para hacerme una base donde coser la cinta del sujetador. Y si me apuras hubiera cosido los pliegues en lugar de quitarles el hilván

¿Que te gusta o disgusta especialmente del patrón? Me gusta ese aire etereo y tipo años 20 que tiene. No me gusta que no esté tan bien diseñado como los otros "Rachels" que tengo.

Tela usada: Un crepe arrugado de florecillas que estaba languideciendo en el armario.

Alteraciones o cambios realizados: Hay dos defectos en este patrón. De escote a mi me sobraban 6 cm. Es un cuello desbocado que igual al bies disimula, pero así no cuela, es agacharte y que se te vea el ombligo. Si me hubiera dado cuenta antes de cortar...pero no, medir yo, ¿pa qué? así que ya con el problema, lo que hice fué fruncir el cuello con una hebra, y llevarlo casi todo al centro, porque si lo dejas a los lados se te deforma la sisa. También subí unos 4 cm las costuras laterales, porque eso era un poco indecente. Todo el sujetador a la vista. No seguí subiendo porque quedaba deformado el top.
También le cosí esos lacitos con automático en la parte delantera para agarrarlos a los tirantes del sostén y que no se mueva.

¿Lo recomendarías a los demás? ¿Lo volverias a coser? Si, modificando y no. Hay muchos tops más bonitos que este para hacer.

Conclusión: Si te lo quieres hacer, mi consejo es: Mide! Tómate la medida entre los tirante de tu sostén y luego compara con el patrón, quita lo que sobre. Y mucho cuidado con las costuras laterales , son muuuy bajitas!

Seguro que conoceis la marca COATS, y muy probablemente habreis cosido con sus hilos un montón de cosas. A mi me gustan mucho, y siempre tienen el color que ando buscando.

1 kilómetro entero de hilo 100% algodón blanco y otro negro con carrete de madera, más un acerico precioso basado en los anuncios vintage de la marca. Es un kit para celebrar su patrimonio de más de  dos siglos de historia (Lo podeis leer AQUI) Es una casa fundada en Escocia y a mi todo lo escocés, desde el acento hasta el Tartan me gusta muchísimo ;D

A whole kilometer of 100% cotton- white thread and another one in black! They both are on lovely vintage wooden spools plus a lovely pincushion based on their vintage advertisements. This is a Heritage Celebration kit. The company was founded over 250 years ago in Scotland. And I love everything Scottish! ( You can read about their history HERE)

Mi Papá lo Arregla Todo y Todo. My Dad Fixes Everything!

Desde que tengo memoria  siempre recuerdo ver a mi padre arreglando algo: motos, coches, enchufes, persianas...Si tiene un mecanismo o un motor, no falla.

Es el epítome del perfecto manitas 

From as long as I can remember, my dad has been fixing things: old motor-bikes, cars, or little things like plugs, blinds... whatever is broken, he fixes.

Y ahora está arreglando esta preciosidad de máquina de coser. Es una  Brunonia  fabricada aproximadamente en 1890. No hay fotos del "antes", cuando llegó a sus manos, pero ni funcionaba ni brillaba. No sé cuantas capas de pintura lleva

And now he is fixing this beauty for me! It is a Brunonia, made around 1890

Sadly there are no "before" photos, but it didn´t work or shine. I don´t know how many coats of paint he gave it!

¿Y a vosotras, os llaman la atención las maquinas de coser antiguas? ¿Teneis alguna? Yo no tengo ni idea, ¡pero esta me encanta!

Do you like old sewing machines? Do you collect them? I don´t know the first thing, but I sure love this one!

Kaftan Patrones Casual n 27 # 52

Lo que estais viendo es un fracaso... Está perfectamente cosido, todo costuras francesas, incluso las mangas, gracias a MAIDER que me animó  a ello cuando las vi en su proyecto.

El estampado está minuciosamente casado, fijaos en las fotos, hasta aproveché dicho estampado para hacer el dobladillo de la manga.

Y todo este primor ¿ para qué? Pues para mi madre. Pero no ha podido ser, porque se lo he hecho demasiado pequeño. Caber, cabe, pero un caftan tiene que quedar un poco suelto, y eso por lo visto Patrones no lo ha tenido en cuenta.

He hecho un a talla 48, y a mí tampoco me queda enorme... Total, que al final me lo quedo yo...¡y eso que yo soy más de short y camiseta!

Algún día conseguiré hacer algo a mi mami :D

This is a failure... It is prefectly sewn, french seams all over the place, even in the armholes, thanks to MAIDER who proved you can make this kind of seams everywhere. 

The print is very nicely matched front, back  and sleeves. I even used the said print to make the sleeve hem look nice.

But it is a failure.

Because I sewed it for my mother. And she can barely fit in there. She is the busty type and even if I made Patrones size 48 ( a Burda 46)  Patrones didn´t realize a Kaftan has to be very loose fitted. It doesn´t look enormous on me, and I usually make a 42 with this magazine.

Sewing the Trends Once More. Lace Shorts. Shorts de Encaje. And a Hatoto Bag

Hola, guapas, ¿que tal el verano, ?

Desde que Justine de Sew Country Chic, me propuso lo de coser tendencias lo he parado de darle vueltas a esto. Es lo que pasa cuando te pones al leer el Cuore.

Hello, dear friends, how is the Summer going?

Ever since Justine of Sew Country Chic, contacted me to Sew the Trends , I have been mulling over  this. I blame all the fashion magazines I´ve read lately

Y me pareció un crimen no hacerme algo así antes de que: A- Acabe este verano donde esta tendencia desaparecerá o B- Ya no esté en edad. (Que esto seguro que Anita Obregón lo llevaría encantada de la vida)
Además tenia un metrito de este encaje, que el año pasado quiso ser un vestidito sencillo, pero se quedó así, porque realmente no sabía como "atacar" el proyecto. Como coserlo.

Entonces vi el traje  de Allison´s con encaje, que no os podeis perder porque es la pera limonera, y ella me dió la clave: Tratar el encaje y forro como si fuera la misma tela. Y eso es lo que hice. Pero primero hice el bajo a el forro, cada pieza por separado y recorté el encaje para hacer las "conchitas"

And I though it a crime not to give it a try before the trend disappears.
Besides, I had a meter of this fabric from last year that wanted to be a little dress, but never got to it because I really didn´t know how to "attack" the proyect. Never sewed lace before.

Then I saw Allison´s awesome lace Wedding Outfit and she gave me the tip: Treat the lace and lining as a single layer. And so I did. But first I made the hem on the lining separately on each piece. And I  trimmed the lace to scallops.

Esta vez no hay repotaje, chicas. Los fotógrafos tenían prisa por ir a tomar un helado a la plaza del pueblo.

Helos aquí. Pantaloncillos de encaje. A mi padre no le gustan. Dice que parece que voy en ropa interior de la de antes.

Today my photographers were in a hurry to go for an icecream to the town square. 
So here they are, them lace shorts. My dad don´t like them. He feels they look too much like old underwear.

Son pantalones cortos...cortos.

El patrón es Burda Style 06/2011 número 111. Hay tres versiones en diversos largos o con cintitas para anudar. Yo a estos no les he puesto ningún extra. Ni bolsillos, con lo que me gustan.

The parttern is Burda Style 06/2011, number 111. There are three versions of these shorts with different lenghts, little ties on the sides. There are no "extras" on mine. Not even pockets!

And the inside. Neater than I thought!

Estos son los shorts que tengo hechos con este patrón, que me encanta: Uno rojo que va con casi todo, uno de rallitas que marea en foto pero que va, ese sí, con todo, y estos nuevos ¡que no me van con nada!

These are the shorts I made using that pattern, that I love. The red ones, slightly longer, they go with almost everything. The one with the thin stripes: those go with everything in my closet, and this whimsical ones that don´t go with absolutely anything!

En otra linea de acción, me he hecho un bolso usando ESTE patrón de Yoshimi del blogYoshimi The Flying Squirrel . Me encanta esta mujer, porque tiene una elegancia especial. 

He metido la pata al hacerlo, pero de todas formas me encanta!

In other news I´ve been making a bag using THIS pattern from Yoshimi The Flying Squirrel . I love her blog and the things she creates, so elegant and classy!

I didn´t make it good, but I love it as it is!

The Last Dress of the Summer. El Ultimo del Verano. Butterick 4790

Lo prometo. Ni uno maix. Este es el último de este verano. Alguna falda, algún top, pero no más vestidos. Aunque claro, hay algunos modelitos que es que van pidiendo guerra. Seré fuerte!

Supongo que no os acordais de ESTE post del año pasado más o menos por estas fechas donde en un arranque "vintage" me pedí un montón de modelos de los cuales solo he hecho EL DE LAS BALLENAS

I promise! This is the last one for this Summer. Maybe a top or a skirt, but No-More-Dresses!
Then again there are some patterns screaming for it, you know. I´ll be strong!

I don´t expect you to remember THIS post where I told you about my very vintage order to Butterick-Vogue, from which I only made THE ONE WITH THE BONING

He esperado casi un año a que apareciese la tela perfecta para hacer este  vestido. Las telas, que son dos. Y tenían que ser bastante discretas y finas para soportar tanto metraje: 3 y medio

I waited almost a year for the perfect fabrics to come along. I wanted both to be quite understated, there are 3 and a half  meters involved here!

Este modelito fué nombrado Mejor Patrón 2007 por PatternReview.com. Y hay unas 63 versiones del mismo que podeis ver AQUÏ, así que desde luego esta vez no estoy a la última.
Pero da igual. Por fín tengo un vestido Vintage y ¡con falda de capa! ¡La ilusión de mi infacia, hecha realidad! Esa infancia llena de nidos y faldas fruncidas que al dar vueltas parecías una campana... pues ya no tengo que ir al psicologo a quitarme el trauma...Esto de coser sirve para todo!

This was "Best Pattern 2007" in PatternReview.com. There are about 63 versions of it HERE. So clearly I´m quite behind with this.
 Oh, never mind! At last I have my vintage dress and it goes with a Circle Skirt! All my childhood wanting one of these so badly and all I got were smocking tops and gathered skirts... Sewing is cheaper than a psychologist! :D

Here goes my version:

Pattern Description: Three pattern pieces, darted in front and back, with back waist and shoulder seams. Back wraps around to the front for a sheath-and-overskirt look. A: contrast back and skirt. Bias tape finished edges.

Pattern Sizing: 8-22. I made size 12, but because I´ve read all the previous reviews, I measure the pattern on the paper before cutting the size. So glad I did. You don´t have the comfort of the seam allowances to play with in this one as it is finished with bias binding

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yeeees! Very happy about that!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Really easy. The most difficult part for me was hemming the circle skirt, and for that the instructions were very good.
I liked very much finishing the edges with bias binding... once I got the knack of it!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like everything! Love the design. Everything about this dress is so feminine. And I was wanting to make a circle skirt since forever!

Fabric Used: Cotton

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Yes. I added a little pocket at hip level on the seath part of the dress, to carry the keys or coins :)

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I do recommend it but I doubt I´d sew it again for myself.

Conclusion: I´m very happy with this dress. It is vintage, and maybe not my every day style, but makes me feel very lady-like and feminine.

Descripción del Patrón: Patrón de 3 piezas, con pinzas delante y detras, costuras en hombros y cintura atrás. La parte trasera se prolonga hacia adelante dando el efecto de sobre-vestido. Terminaciones con bies

Tallaje: de la 8 a la 22. Tallas americanas. Yo corté la 12 despues de asegurarme bien, metro en mano, de las medidas finales. Al no tener margenes de costura con la que jugar, hay que asegurarse bien

¿Se parece a la foto, una vez terminado de coser?: Si. Y eso me hace feliz

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles? Facilisimas. De verdad. Lo más dificil fué hacerle el dobladillo a la falda de capa y eso iba muy bien explicado.

¿Qué te gustó o disgustó especialmente? Me encanta el estilo y las lineas de este vestido, es muy femenino. Se cose rápido y una vez que le pillas el truqui a coser el bies vas como un avión

Tela usada: Algodón 100%

Alteraciones al patrón o cambios de diseño: Uno pequeñito: Le añadí un bolsillito a la altura de la cadera, para las llaves, las moneditas...

¿Lo coserías otra vez o se lo recomendarías a alguien? No lo volvería a coser para mi, pero sí lo recomiendo. A no ser que tengas mucho pecho... Entonces este no creo que sea muy adecuado

Conclusión: Muy contenta con el vestido. Yo no soy muy vintage, ni creo que sea mi estilo, pero me siento muy "señorita" con este. (Aunque ya estoy un poco señorona)

Las fotos están hechas en el Cabo de Gata. En esta zona se rodó Lawrence de Arabia y algunas pelis del Oeste. Y nosotros una de piratas, por lo visto. Termina mal, como veis :D

The photos are taken in Cabo de Gata  in Almeria. In this area, they recorded Lawrence of Arabia, many moons ago, and some Westerns too. Seemingly we shot a pirate- movie. It doesn´t end very good for me!
