Esta es la cuarta versión de este patrón. Podeis ver las otras AQUI/HERE. Son mis shorts favoritos, fáciles de hacer y cómodos de llevar.

This is the 4th version of this pattern. You can have a look at the others AQUI/HERE. They are my favourite shorts: easy to make and easy to wear.

Las fotos fueron tomadas en los mismos jardines que en la entrada anterior. Que es que son muy bonitos. Mejor no os cuento donde me cambié.

Y ahora que termina el veranito yo ya me estoy preparando. Dada mi ineptitud para el punto y eso de tricotar y al mismo tiempo conociendome y sabiendo que yo en invierno sin jerseis calentitos no soy persona, he optado por comprar este curso y a ver que  sale!!

Modified Running Shorts

Cuando vi este post de SEW COUNTRY CHIC me entró una necesidad imperiosa de tener unos iguales, o por lo menos parecidos.

El patrón ya lo tenía AQUI/HERE, pero no tenía bolsillos por ningun lado. Y encima los quería italianos como los que puso Pauline en sus SORELL TROUSERS. Los diseñé con más facilidad de la que les suponía y la construcción fué la misma que la de las instrucciones de los Sorell

When I saw this post from SEW COUNTRY CHIC I just felt the need to have my very own modified running shorts. 

I already had the pattern AQUI/HERE, but there were no pockets. Besides I wanted ITALIAN slant pockets, just like the ones Pauline designed for her SORELL TROUSERS. I traced them more easily than I thought they would be and I used the construction method in the said pattern.

La tela tiene algo de stretch y para los bolsillos y ribetes usé tela que me sobró de ESTE PROYECTO/THIS PROYECT

The main fabric has a bit of stretch and for the pockets and the bias strips I used leftover fabric from ESTE PROYECTO/THIS PROYECT

El año pasado Margo de Creating in the Gap escribió un post que me gustó mucho. Unos consejos básicos para hacer fotos a tus modelitos. AQUI/HERE

Uno de sus consejos era "Shine some light on you butt" una manera graciosa de decir, ilumina tus fotos desde atras/lado. Y este es el resultado. A mi me gusta, sobre todo el efecto en el pelo

Last year, during MMM14 Margo, from Creating in the Gap wrote a post that I liked  very much. Basic tips to photograph your creations.

One of her tips was "light some shine on your butt" and that´s exactly what we tried to do here. I love the effect on the hair, specially!

Por último, me gustaría haceros una pregunta: Con qué frecuencia modificais patrones? 

Lastly, I'd like to ask you this: how often do you modify your patterns? 

The Tiger Inside

¡Me gustan los retos! De costura, deportivos, personales... Asi que me he apuntado a este  de Fehr Trade. Todos los años suelo hacer dos carreras: San Silvestre y la Carrera Popular del Puerto de Algeciras, que da pistoletazo de salida a la Feria de Algeciras y pone punto final al año escolar...¡yupi!

A la feria voy poco, pero la carrera no nos la perdemos. 

I like challenges. All kinds. Sewing and sport challenges being my favourites...so I just had to join in Fehr Trade ´s SPRING RACE CHALLENGE.

I usually run two races a year. One is in New Years Eve (mainly to avoid the cooking) and the other one is the yearly popular race held in Algeciras as means to start the Feria, in the most healthy way...It all goes downhill from there, what with all the food and drink at the fair...It also marks the end of school!

Lo que he hecho para este reto son los pantalones para correr, así en plan vintage. 

El patrón es el número 121 del Burda 05/2010, de las primeras Burdas que tengo. 

Lo he hecho con lo que me sobró de los dos tigres ESTE/ THIS ONE y ESTE OTRO/ THE OTHER ONE.

Mas unos metritos de bies satinado blanco, un poco de elástico gordo y un cordoncillo de adorno...

¡Y a correr! (Literalmente)

What I made for this challenge are the running shorts, the kind I used to wear as a child...I think they are called vintage now...

I used pattern number 121 from Burda 05/2010, one of the first sewing magazines I ever bought.

I made these with the left over fabric from my two Tigers ESTE/ THIS ONE and ESTE OTRO/ THE OTHER ONE.

Plus some meters of white satin bias tape, some thick elastic and a little cord. Easy and nice to wear.

La carrera fué más larga de lo prevista: en lugar de 5.6 km, corrimos 7, decisiones de última hora, se notaron todos y cada uno de los metros de más...uf!

The race was longer than expected: 7 km instead of 5.6, last minute decisions. I could feel  each extra meter...phew!

Pero os estareis preguntando que a que viene el título, eso del tigre interior: Es que la parte estampada de la tela, la cabeza va por detro :)

You might be wondering about the title of the post: The tiger inside. I had to use the print part of this fabric (the tiger head part) inside the waist band . That´s all there is to it! :)

Men´s Shorts

Hola! Por fin tengo conexión, si alguien me ha echado de menos, solo era eso, falta de conexión...bueno, y tambien pocas ganitas de coser. Y un viaje a Londres, ya os contaré...

Hello! I´m connected at last! If anybody missed me, it was just that: lack of conection and, well, maybe not enough sewing-mojo as you say. Also I´ve been to London, I´ll tell you about it.

¡Vale! Después del tremendo éxito de los shorts de piratas de aquí, que mi marido no se ha quitado de puestos este verano, y aprovechando que nunca sé que regalarle para su cumpleaños, le he hecho otros. En lino que os puede sonar de este modelito infantil de aquí. Usé retales de la más clarita para poder hacerlos, porque no me daba. El que guarda siempre halla, como dice la "mamma"

Alright! After the great success  of the pirate´s shorts from HERE, that my husband has been wearing all summer, and given it was his birthday and I never know what to give him as present, I made some more. Only in linen that you might recall from HERE. I used some leftover fabric from the light one to make the inside pockets and the welt pocket, and the tabs too. As my mum always say: She who stores, always finds, or something similar...

Otra vez, les hice más largo que el patrón, de Burda, abajo teneis el enlace, y en retrospectiva opino que necesita unos bolsillos de plastrón para que no quede tan soso.

Again, I used this pattern from Burda, there is a link under the technical drawing, and in hindsight I guess it needs some patch pockets on the sides.

Como tuve un montón de tiempo para hacer esto he querido que estuviera rematado primorosamente...pero no lo he logrado. De momento el bolsillo de atrás me fascina...igual por donde está situado ;)

As I had plenty of time to make this one, I wanted to be very neat about the finishes, but I didn´t quite get it.

But I´m very proud of my welt pocket.

Añadí longitud en la cinturilla para poner otro botón o una presilla , y que no tire de la cremallera, pero todavía no lo he puesto. Soy la reina de los productos inacabados pero ponibles.

I added lenght on the waistband to make an inside button. Never got round to it.

Flechas verdes
Para poder hacer costuras francesas hasta en los bolsillos de costura, reforcé la tela, en la linea de costura, para poder hacer unos cortes en los márgenes. En teoría sí, en la práctica, no. No queda muy bien y encima se abren las costuras...sobre todo si el que lleva los shorts quiere meter el movil, la cartera y las llaves en dichos bolsillos.

Green Arrows
In order to make french seams all over the place, pockets included, I reinforced the seam line to make cuts in the seam allowance. That didn´t work, the seams are opening specially when the wearer insist on putting his wallet, phone and keys in his pockets. 

En conclusión: No está tan feliz con estos como con los de calavera, porque los otros no se arrugan y estos, os podeis imaginar. Seguiré buscando otros patrones de chico, a ver.

Well, he is not as happy with these as he was with the pirate ones, but at least he is wearing them too. I´ll keep on looking for some more male patterns.

Sewing the Trends Once More. Lace Shorts. Shorts de Encaje. And a Hatoto Bag

Hola, guapas, ¿que tal el verano, ?

Desde que Justine de Sew Country Chic, me propuso lo de coser tendencias lo he parado de darle vueltas a esto. Es lo que pasa cuando te pones al leer el Cuore.

Ever since Justine of Sew Country Chic, contacted me to Sew the Trends , I have been mulling over  this. I blame all the fashion magazines I´ve read lately

Y me pareció un crimen no hacerme algo así antes de que: A- Acabe este verano donde esta tendencia desaparecerá o B- Ya no esté en edad. (Que esto seguro que Anita Obregón lo llevaría encantada de la vida)
Además tenia un metrito de este encaje, que el año pasado quiso ser un vestidito sencillo, pero se quedó así, porque realmente no sabía como "atacar" el proyecto. Como coserlo.

Entonces vi el traje  de Allison´s con encaje, que no os podeis perder porque es la pera limonera, y ella me dió la clave: Tratar el encaje y forro como si fuera la misma tela. Y eso es lo que hice. Pero primero hice el bajo a el forro, cada pieza por separado y recorté el encaje para hacer las "conchitas"

And I though it a crime not to give it a try before the trend disappears.
Besides, I had a meter of this fabric from last year that wanted to be a little dress, but never got to it because I really didn´t know how to "attack" the proyect. Never sewed lace before.

Then I saw Allison´s awesome lace Wedding Outfit and she gave me the tip: Treat the lace and lining as a single layer. And so I did. But first I made the hem on the lining separately on each piece. And I  trimmed the lace to scallops.

Esta vez no hay repotaje, chicas. Los fotógrafos tenían prisa por ir a tomar un helado a la plaza del pueblo.

Helos aquí. Pantaloncillos de encaje. A mi padre no le gustan. Dice que parece que voy en ropa interior de la de antes.

Today my photographers were in a hurry to go for an icecream to the town square. 
So here they are, them lace shorts. My dad don´t like them. He feels they look too much like old underwear.

Son pantalones cortos...cortos.

El patrón es Burda Style 06/2011 número 111. Hay tres versiones en diversos largos o con cintitas para anudar. Yo a estos no les he puesto ningún extra. Ni bolsillos, con lo que me gustan.

The parttern is Burda Style 06/2011, number 111. There are three versions of these shorts with different lenghts, little ties on the sides. There are no "extras" on mine. Not even pockets!

Y los acabados, que para lo que yo pensaba han quedado ni tan mal...

And the inside. Neater than I thought!

Estos son los shorts que tengo hechos con este patrón, que me encanta: Uno rojo que va con casi todo, uno de rallitas que marea en foto pero que va, ese sí, con todo, y estos nuevos ¡que no me van con nada!

These are the shorts I made using that pattern, that I love. The red ones, slightly longer, they go with almost everything. The one with the thin stripes: those go with everything in my closet, and this whimsical ones that don´t go with absolutely anything!

En otra linea de acción, me he hecho un bolso usando ESTE patrón de Yoshimi del blogYoshimi The Flying Squirrel . Me encanta esta mujer, porque tiene una elegancia especial. 

He metido la pata al hacerlo, pero de todas formas me encanta!

In other news I´ve been making a bag using THIS pattern from Yoshimi The Flying Squirrel . I love her blog and the things she creates, so elegant and classy!

I didn´t make it good, but I love it as it is!

Sewing the Trends Summer 2013. Floral Shorts

When Justine from Sew County Chick asked me to take part on her series I accepted inmediately. I admire her so much! Not only she has a great site where she shares all her crafty ideas with all of us, she is a seriously beautiful mother of five and  still she has time to create pretty clothes for her daughters and herself. I don´t know how she does it!

I don´t usually follow the trends, but from time to time ( at the hairdresser, normally) I get to read some fashion magazines and realize what´s on or off. From this season I like the bold and big stripes trend. Unfortunately, the shops where I get my fabric never follow any trend. At all. 

They should visit the hairdresser more often, I think.


Cuando Justine de Sew County Chick me invitó a participar en su Serie de Cosiendo las Tendencias del Verano 2013, acepté inmediatamente. Es una mujer admirable: No solo tiene un blog llenito de buenísimas ideas, tutoriales y de más, es madre de cinco hijos, tiene un tipazo que no veas y encima le da tiempo a coser. ¡Yo es que no sé como lo hace!

Normalmente no sigo las modas, pero a veces (normalmente en la pelu) me da tiempo a leer alguna revista y ponerme al día. De esta temporada me encanta la de las rayas gruesas. Pero mis tiendas de confianza (Mercadillo y Tejidos Mary), lamentablemente pasan de tendencias. De todas.

Deberían ir más a la pelu.

As much as I love wearing dresses in the Summer, I can´t live without shorts. Comfortable, cool and easy to wear. I went looking for the latest shorts trend in this is what I´ve got. My shops can do floral too!

Con todo lo que a mi me gustan los vestiditos en verano, al final casi siempre voy en shorts. Cómodos, fresquitos y fáciles de llevar. Así que me puse a mirar las tendencias respecto a shorts. Flores. Genial. Porque en mis tiendas hay flores a porrillo.

Fabric in hand (just a meter, another great thing about shorts ;) I went looking for a pattern. And this one appealed me for all the pretty little details... Not that you get to notice them with the busy print, but I know they are there and that makes me happy.

Con la tela en mano ( solo un metrito, otra ventaja de los shorts) ,  empecé a buscar patrón. Este de Patrones me llamó la atención por todos los detallitos, auque en realidad se pierden con tanto floripondio. Pero yo se que están ahí y eso me hace feliz.

As you can see, sharp seamstresses, the technical drawing is not the one from the shorts the model is wearing. Yep! The waistband. On the model it sits at hip-level, whereas in the drawing you can see it is a high-waisted  pattern. By the way, lovely eyebrows, aren´t they?

Como veis el dibujo técnico no es el del pantalón de la foto. La cinturilla, niñas. El de la modelo sienta en la cadera, mientras en el dibujo claramente sube hasta la cintura. Por cierto: Me pido las cejas de la chica

Por supuesto, ni modo de casar tanta flor. Lo que más me gustó fué hacer las 9 trabillas. Personalizadas, claro. No hay ni una que sea igual que otra :D

Oh the top! I actually made This/ Este Top using matching colours for the embroidery. But the´re is no way you´ll see me wearing that thing just yet. Instead I´m wearing This One from last summer.

El top. En realidad, yo hice  This/ Este Top para los shorts, usando los colores del pantalón para el bordado, pero ni loca me lo pongo junto. En lugar de eso llevo Este Otro del verano pasado.

Shorts System Action. Patrones 307 # 19

En mi mente hay cosas fijas como que es sol se levanta por el este y se pone por el oeste, los shorts son para el verano y los pantalones largos para el invierno.
La idea de "shorts invernales" ha tardado años en calar en mi mente, dura de mollera que es una, pero en cuanto he visto la luz, he corrido a hacerme unos. Porque hay que aprovechar para lucir pierna antes de que sea demasiado mayor para  resultar ridicula. (Yo siempre tengo a Ana Obregon como modelo de lo que no quiero vestir de mayor, pero vete tú a saber)

There are some things that I take as universal truths like the sun rising in the East and setting in the West: shorts are for the Summer and trousers for the Winter.
It took me all these years for the idea of "winter shorts" to sink in, and then I just had to hurry up and make them before I´m too old to wear them.



Elegí este patrón en especial, porque quería trabajar con detalles y que fuera un corte moderno, con la cinturilla sentando encima de las caderas y no en el ombligo.
Me dejo de rollos. Aqui teneis la copia en Español de Pattern Review.

I chose this pattern specially because I wanted details and a modern look, like the waistband sitting over the hips instead of the belly button... Well, I better leave you with a copy of  the pattern review and stop blabbering :D

Descripcion del patrón: Shorts System Action. Tienen pliegues en el delantero, bolsillos delanteros y traseros ribeteados, cinturilla con forma, pinzas traseras, dos tipos diferentes de trabillas y puños para el bajo, que va fruncido. Todo eso en un metro de tela

Tallas:40-44-48. Yo, mala pata, me saqué la 42

¿Se parece al dibujo/foto del patrón una vez terminado?Si salvo por la parte de abajo que no he fruncido

¿Fueron las instrucciones faciles de seguir?¡Patrones mon amour. Eres indescifrable!

¿Que te gustó o disgustó más del patrón?Lo que más: todos los detalles condensados en tan poca tela. Lo que menos, y eso que lo probé, el frunce de la pernera. Ah, y como siempre los de patrones siguen pensando que todas tenemos piernas de espagueti

Tela utilizada: Gabardina de lana

Alteraciones al patrón o cambios de diseño. Tuve que alargar la cinturilla porque no acerté con las instrucciones. Y sobre todo quite el frunce por que daba un efecto "Dodot" que se cargaba todo el encanto y el trabajo anterior. Tuve que alargar los puños de las piernas para adecuarse a la nueva anchura

¿Lo volverías a coser, se lo recomendarías a otros?Si. De hecho he guardado a buen recaudo el patron por que quiero unos para verano. Si, lo recomiendo
Conclusión. Estoy encantada y me he esmerado con los detalles como las costuras que las he terminado recortando una de ellas y enrollando la otra alrededor. Seguro que tiene nombre.

Pattern Description: System Action shorts. It has front pleats, riveted front pockets, back darts, welt pockets, shaped waistband, two diffentent kind of belt loops, front fly, gathered leg and cuffs, all that in less than a meter of fabric!

Pattern Sizing: 40-44-48. I had to draft the 42. The sizes are quite small compared with Burda.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Yes, except for the gathering.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Patrones, mon amour! you are indecipherable!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I like all the details and the shaped waistband, that sits above the hips. I don´t like the gathering with the cuffs.Besides, in Patrones they think we all have extremely thin limbs

Fabric Used: Wool gabardine

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I left off the gathering on the hems as it made my bum look as I was wearing nappies and it made all the previous hard work ammount to nothing. Hence I had to make new cuffs. I also had to make the waisband longer.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?Yes to both questions. I want to make some shorts for the summer.

Conclusion: I don´t know if I´ll get used to wearing shorts now that it is so cold, but I enjoyed sewing this. I even used flat felled seams to make them look nice inside
