Cacharel Babydoll at Night

In the past, I used to make a bikini each Summer and live in it (and some other RTW ones!) on the beach. This year I´m not going there very often as I have to work during the Summer months :(
But another "classic" of mine is the Dress! It wouldn't have been Summer without an ultrafeminine dress to wear at night.

The fabric is a quite stiff African Wax, but it's perfect for this dress with a full circle skirt.
The pattern is 128, Burda 04/21014. Designer pattern. Cacharel to be precise. It has a lot of volume, but there are two plaids on the front that makes it look less voluminous, more balanced.

But the best part about this dress is the back. It was not as complicated as it looked, the only tricky part was shaving off 7cm from the waist, to adapt it to my measures.

A beautiful dress to enjoy a special summer night. I hope your summer is full of those. Lots of love to all of you.

Charmante!

¡Hola!

Hi! Do you remember me? No, don't answer, sometimes I don't even remember myself, when I used to sew and all that.
But last month I finish this dress with a surprisingly soft african wax fabric. It was actually not surprising at all, it was plainly more expensive so yes, the touch and the quality is quite different. I used this Laura Ashley pattern, that is very simple but also quite effective. I want to try the longer, sleeveless version. See if I can make the time for it.

McCall's 7242

Laura Ashley,
Loose-fitting dresses have mandarin collar, blouson bodice, back pleated into self-lined yoke, elastic waist, side pockets, and narrow hem. A: Bust pockets, short sleeves and side slits. B: Hemline ruffle. B, D: Elasticized lower edge of long sleeves. C: Sleeveless and bias armhole facings.

And after making it, we took it to the Bibliotheque Nationale, which is an awesome building full of...erm, books!

And also a walk along the Seine. Before the flood. So now I have the Spring and the Winter views.
That's it! And now I'm off to your blogs where, for sure, I'll get inspired to make all kinds of nice things I'll never have time to make.

Vogue 8489 at Comedie Française

Comedie Française
¡Hola!

Hello! At last I can show you my New-Year's-Eve dress... at the end of February.
Well, I wanted to show it to you in a nice environment, because I really like this dress, so we took it to the theater. La Comedie Française.
I was totally shocked to find out that all the other people there that night have come to watch something other than my dress! Like a Victor Hugo's play, Lucrecia Borgia!
Just kidding! I enjoyed the play a lot. Staging and acting were superb.

Besides, the whole theater was "dressed" in maroon velvet, matching my dress. Aren't they thoughtful?

Maybe you are wondering about the dress? Well, it's Vogue 8489
I've made it twice already. One of the versions seems quite popular:  Vestido formal
This time I made it really long. I had to sacrifice fullness for the sake of the lenght, though.
The fabric was bought in Paris too. It´s a knit with a great drape to it.
Details are fake leather, that is really soft to the touch. I've already made some trousers with it.

We forgot a back photo, with all the excitement. Next time.
That's all from me. I'm proyect-less and time-less. The usual, you know: Life
A big hug to all of you

Jedi In The Making

Carnival party at school is around the corner, and Julia wanted something Star Wars related. Padme could have been nice, but no time for something very complicated. So she settled for Rey, from the last film. Ok, that seemed easy.

First problem was the fabric. I had some meters of light grey t-shirt material to make the trousers and the armband, but had to go to the shop to get another shade. Problem was, they only had solid dark grey. I used bleach and after several hour of soaking there, the fabric turned a pale shade of pink that made my daughter wrinkle her nose in a bad way. But then she looked at me with her big brown eyes and said " Mum, I trust you, I know you'll make this turn the best costume ever" Oh, the preassure!

I took the pinkish thing and tried my hand with some black dye, not too much. In the end she approved. Phew!
The only sewing I had to make was the trousers, adjusting an Ottobre pattern to the desired under-the-knee lenght and adding an elastic casing.
For the armbands I took her measures at armpit, elbow and wrist, made someting similar to a triangle and the sew onto that 14 4-centimeter bands, then close it along the arm.

Then we got very cheap tickets for a starship and off we went to take pictures...
Well, I actually have to thank my friend Charo from COSIENDO Y APRENDIENDO for the "journey"

Espero que os haya gustado. Desde luego a Julia sí!

I hope you liked it. Julia sure does!!

Mother-Daughter Sequinned Sweaters

Here I come again! No, I'm not here to show you my New Year's Eve dress. What with the champagne, the celebrations and the works, I completely forgot to take a photo. And a need a very special background for that. Next time, promised.
I've been busy sewing useful things that go straight from the sewing machine on the corresponding infant body and then off to school. But with this sweater fabric with a little fleece on the inside that I bought in Les Coupons de St Pierre I wanted to make something a bit more special.

I started with a Linden Sweater, in the link above. Everything alright, but when I put it on the neckline wouldn't sit right. I put it on my dress form for a couple of days but it is still sticking up a bit. With the denim shirt it doesn't look as bad.

When my daughter saw my sweater, she inmediatly wanted to inherit it or have her own. And also some trousers to use it as a tracksuit at school. I used some patterns from Ottobre magazine, children issue, Autumn/Winter 2015

Special thanks to the zealous photographer who was able to keep his attention on the allocated job.
