Porque me sobraba tela,claro. Es lo que tiene comprar telas africanas, que no te las venden por metro, si no 5 y pico metros a la vez...creo. Igual son 6

Because I had serious left over fabric. That's the thing about buying African wax, that you have to buy the whole thing, not just a couple of meters...I'm not complaining, just stating a fact.

Y como no encontraba un patrón que me gustara, agarré un pantalón de pijama de estos de Primark (sí, es que me gustan, espero que no sea un crimen estilista) lo corté y saqué el patrón. Lo malo es que después lo he tirado. Otro crimen.

And as I couldn't find a pants pattern that I liked, I took some old Primark pj's and ripped them appart (they were old, couldn't fight back, hah!) I wish I would have kept the pattern, but for some silly reason, maybe a seasonal cleaning madness, they landed in the dustbin.

Jugué con el orillo para hacer los bolsillos. Me gusta el efecto.

The African-Italian-French Connection

Buenaaas! Aquí estoy otra vez, con patrón repe, que seguro reconocereis, pero que creo que merece la pena mostrar.

Hello! Here again with another pattern repetition, but I guess it is worth showing.

El patrón es el famosísimo Burda 101 02/2011 que ya hice AQUI/HERE

Esta vez, lo que pasa con la experiencia, más ajustado a mi figura

The pattern is the very famous Burda 101 02/2011 AQUI/HERE

This time more fitted to my figure.

El cuerpo va forrado, pero la falda no, ya que la tela es bastante tiesa

The bodice is lined but not the skirt, as the fabric is quite stiff

Usé esta estampado africano que tenía un borde diferente y que he aprovechado para conseguir un efecto diferente en el bajo de la falda.

I had this African print that had a border (I know there is a word for this, but I cannot find it right now) and used it withwise to make the skirt

Donde está la conexiòn Africano-Italiano-francesa? Tela africana, modelito que recuerda a las maggioratas italianas de los cincuenta, llevado con mucho gusto por las calles de París.

So, where is the African-Italian-French connection?: African print, a dress like the ones a Maggiorata from the 50's would wear (I`m thinking of Gina Lollobrigida right now) happily donned to roam the streets of Paris!

Leini Dress

Post totalmente técnico, pero llenito de fotos, aviso...

Este es mi vestido-prueba del patrón Leini, tal cual. Bueno, no, aquí ya había modificado el cuello, que en veranito me gusta un poco de escote. 7.5 cm más bajo

Totally technical post, but full of photos, I'm warning you...

This is my wearable muslin of the Leini. Size 38, only modification is the neckline, it was too high up for my taste. 7.5 cm down

Veis el pecho? No parece que, además de abundante está mal posicionado?...yo lo achaqué a que la cinturilla elástica caía bastante más arriba de mi cintura.

See my bust? Doesn't it look bad positioned and like too big? I thought the reason was that the elastic waist was hitting a much higher point than my natural waist.

En la espalda está bien, pero en los costados se curva hacia arriba para adaptarse al frente..

On the back is alright, but on the sides it makes a funny curve to adapt to the front...

Lo que hice fué bajarle 4cm. de la mitad del frente y solo 1cm de los lados, igual que en la espalda, que solo he bajado 1cm. Con una curva de sastre (o como se llame) dibujé el nuevo contorno tanto al forro como a la parte externa con su plieguecito.

También acorté la falda, pero no me acuerdo de los cm. 

I lowered the center front by 4cm, blending that to +1cm on the sides. The back was also lenghten by 1cm.

I also made the skirt shorter, but I can't recall by how much, sorry!

Y aquí está el resultado, que no es ninguna sorpresa, porque ya lo habíais visto antes. De frente todo bien...

And here is the result: no surprises here as you had already seen it in my previous post! The front view is cute...

Pero de lado..ay! Parece que he subido tres tallas de sujetador!!!

But the side view...OMG! Looks like I'm wearing three sizes up the bra scale!

Enormes! Creo que este tipo de vestido estaría genial para alguien con poco pecho

Huge! I truly believe this dress is perfect for women with an A or B cup...maybe my B cup is going on C, I don't know!

Pero nada que unos buenos macarons a juego no me haga olvidar al instante!

But nothing that some yummy and colour-coordinated macarons won't make me oblivious of!!

Y es un vestidito muy tierno para pasear por las calles de Montmartre como Amélie.
Muchos besitos y a disfrutar del verano!!

All in all, a really cute dress to walk the streets of Montmartre just like Amélie.

Y como me sobraba un retal, la señorita también se ha visto beneficiada de esta tela tan suavita. No se lo quita de puesto!

I had some fabric left, not much, but enough to make my daughter a nice little top. She is wearing it all the time!!

African Print: The Adult Version

¡Hola! Aquí os traigo la segunda parte del estampado africano. Esta es la versión adulta, que en realidad hice primero que el vestido de la peque, en la entrada anterior.

A decir verdad lo hice casi, casi en Febrero, pero no estaba el tiempo para hacer fotos de un vestidito así.

Hello! Here is the second part of this african print; the adult version. I actually made this dress much earlier than the girl´s ( in the previous post)...I think it was around February or March when I started sewing it, but it has been waiting in the closet for the good weather.

Pues sí,  "ballenas" otra vez. Este es el modelo VOGUE 8184, con el que ya me atreví hace un par de años AQUI/HERE.

Es un vestidito sencillo que no requiere mucha tela, va forrado por dentro (en mi caso es la misma tela que fuera) 

Hice la versión D que es falda recta con abertura atrás.

I made VOGUE 8184 again. First time was another view from the same pattern AQUI/HERE.
And I really enjoyed the "boning" part, this time. 
It is a very simple dress, that doesn't require a lot of fabric, it is lined (with the same fabric as the shell in my case)
I made version D with a straight skirt and a slit on the back.

Me daba un poco de miedo el tema del escote, por mucha ballena que lleve, que si se me va a bajar, que si no voy a estar cómoda...anda que si lo enseño todo por ahí!

Y sobre todo: no será demasiado arregaldo? Pero  este estampado yo creo que le quita importancia al escote y lo hace un vestido veraniego muy ponible.

I was a little reticent about the strapless, really. No matter the boning I thought the whole thing was going to fall and leave...erm... exposed.

Besides strapless in my head means too dressed up, but I think that with this kind of print it becomes a little summer dress.

¿Veis? No se cae, aunque levantes los brazos!!!

See? It doesn't fall off!

Aunque claro, el reflejo de subirtelo bien, es irresistible... O es que el agua de los canales da fresquito y te tapas con lo que buenamente puedes. 

But, of course, the reflex of pulling it up becomes irresistible...or maybe it is the fresh air from the channel that makes you cover your bits with whatever inch of fabric you can get hold of!

Class Picnic Tunic in African Print

¡Hola de nuevo!

Sigo buscando patrones para niñas de 10 años en adelante, NO es fácil.

Tenía esta tela africana, que ya os enseñaré en versión adulta, y a Julia le gustó mucho (mucho, para ella, es "ah! sí, es naraja..¿un vestido?.. vale...) 

En principio iba a hacerle versión blusa, pero para no desaprovechar tela lo alargué para conseguir vestidín-túnica.

El patrón es OLIVER + S CLASS PICNIC SHORTS AND BLOUSE

I'm still in the quest for good patterns for girls aged 10+. It's not easy.

I had this african wax, from which I made a dress for myself (no photos yet) and Julia liked it very much (something in the lines of "oh yes, it's orange...a dress?...ok")

I was going to make the blouse, but as I had enough fabric I opted for transforming it in a tunic.

Just adding inches to the hem-line.

The pattern is OLIVER + S CLASS PICNIC SHORTS AND BLOUSE

Y es que con estos patrónes NADA puede ir mal.

Siempre quedan perfectos por dentro y por fuera, y las instrucciones son fantásticas. De verdad que os los recomiendo.

En retrospectiva, no hubiera estado mal añadirle unos bolsillos en el delantero, para romper un poco, pero como de momento la nena no tiene que llevar llaves ni móvil...

In retrospect, I should have add some patch pockets, but as for now she doesn't need to carry keys or mobile phones...

Espero poder enseñaros mi vestido con esta tela lo más pronto posible.

Sorell Trousers by Pauline Alice

¡CHICAAAS! Que PAULINE ALICE ha sacado dos patrones nuevos,¡¡Con lo que nos gustan a todas!!

¿Que ya lo sabíais? Si es que siempre llego tarde a todo, oish!

Para las despistadas como yo, os cuento: ha sacado un vestido precioso muy años 60 que se llama XEREA y estos pantalones, SORELL, de cintura alta, pata ancha y un master en bolsillos incluido: italianos, bolsillito de reloj, de parche y riveteados. Un lujazo.

A mi me encantan. Me recuerdan a los que llevaba Katharine Hepburn en su época.

Hello girls! Did you know that PAULINE ALICE have launched two new patterns?

Of course you knew. I'm always late for everything!

The dress is very 60s and it's called  XEREA, and these trousers, the SORELLs are high-waisted, wide-legged and are in themselves a master on pockets: watch, italian, patch, riveted...a real treat!

I just love them. They remind me of the ones Katharine Hepburn used back in her time.

Pauline me pidió que fuera probadora del patrón y usé la misma tela que en esta sudadera AQUI/HERE. Es como lino pero color vaquero. Se arruga, pero tiene caida, se deforma, pero es fresca...ideal para  primavera/verano.

Pauline asked me to test them, and I used a fabric that I had already used AQUI/HERE, for a hoodie. It is a kind of linen that looks like light weight denim.Great for Spring/Summer season.

¿Que es lo que me ha gustado más? El corte y sobre todo los bolsillos. El bolsillito frontal es una monada, lo sé, pero lo que me volvió loca fué la construcción y el mimo que puso Pauline en diseñar los bolsillos laterales. Van reforzados con una cinta de grogré por la abertura para que no se deformen. Las explicaciones para los bolsillos son de lo mejor que he visto. De verdad que os los recomiendo.

What did I like best? The cut and, above all things, the pockets. The watch pocket is so cute, I know, but the side pockets are excellent. The construction and the care Pauline put into designing them as well as the instructions are the best I've seen around. Said side pockets are reinforce on the inside with grosgrain tape, so they don't loose shape when wearing the trousers.

Preferí utilizar los bolsillos traseros de parche porque soy una vaga acabada porque le pregunté a Pauline y me los recomendó para mi no-culo. Sin embargo la próxima vez los haré un poco más grandecitos.

I preferred to use the patch pockets because I'm lazy like that because I asked Pauline and she recommended them for my small-sized bum. However, next time I'm make them a bit bigger

Todo va con costuras inglesas: TO-DO. Por dentro están remataditos que da gusto, pero una vez más he olvidado hacer foto. Si puedo, la incluiré otro día.

All the seams are flat-felled, so the insides are a joy to see, but you won't see them unless I take a photo of them...Yes, I forgot again!!!

Solo una cosita: aunque los bolsillos estén muy bien diseñados, muy bien reforzados y muy bien hechos...no os paseis el día con las manitas dentro, que después las sacas para hacerte una foto y se te ven los forros. Avisadas estais.

Just a little piece of advise: No matter how well designed are your pockets, or how well done, or how well reinforced: don't spend the whole time with your hands in them, because later on you take them out to take a photo and your lining will show. You are warned!

¿Lo veis? Si es que no me puedo resistir a los bolsillos!!

See? I can't help myself!!

I just NEED to put my hands in my pockets!
