Momento Paulova con arena en los ojos

Having a  Paulova moment with some sand kicked into my eyes :)

Compré esta tela que será poliester-algo para hacer un vestido para asistir a una boda. Al final no puedo ir, pero la tela ya estaba en casa. 4.5 metros de verdor con mucha, pero mucha caida.

Desde que empecé el curso de Craftsy de patrones tenía ganas de hacer una falda de capa, así que me lié la manta a la cabeza.

Después de todos los contratiempos, me doy cuenta de que hubiera quedado igual de bien si hubiera más sencilla: dos rectangulos fruncidos y ya. Pero como siempre, tiro por lo más dificil.

La tela tiene tanta caida que una vez cortada y cosida, las zonas que van al bies eran mucho más largas que las que van al hilo. Entre 10 y 15 cm. de diferencia.

Después de dejarla "reposar" sobre el maniquí más de tres días la falda seguía creciendo. La recorté con bastante dificultad y le hice el dobladillo. Otra trabajera.

Antes de eso, la sola idea de ponerle cremallera a esto me daba taquicardia. así que en un golpe de ingenio (está mal que lo diga yo, lo sé) la parte de atras se convirtió en la de delante, entretelé los bordes y le puse unos corchetes de "martillo".

Tuve que añadir uno de los normales entre el 1º y 2º porque el peso de la falda hace que se abra el esa zona.

I bought this poly-something fabric to make a dress for a wedding. In the end I am unable to attend, but the fabric was already at home. All 4.5 meters of green and drapey stuff.

Since I started the Crafty classes I wanted to try a circle skirt, so that´s what I did.

After all the setbacks, I realized I could have get away with a gathered skirt instead, but I never take the easy way, do I?

This has so much drape that once sewn the bias parts were much longer than the grain bits, by 10-15 cm.

I let it set for three days on my dress form them cut all the same length. Well, it is still growing somehow!

Before hemming I thought that putting a zipper was going to be a hellish experience so I made the back into the front, interface the whole length and  put some hammer-on snaps. I think this was the best thing I could have done!

I had to add an invisible snap between the first and second, because it opened too much.

Costuras francesas y mini-dobladillo. Para hacerlo pasé un hilván y fuí frunciendo y remetiendo sujetando con otro hilvan...puf! Mis hijos al ver la tela sobre el suelo con el patrón encima pensaron que iba a ser una tienda de campaña. La de la foto es la cara de un niño desilusionado.

French seams and a thin hem. To make that I had to baste, gather, then baste again  and sew...a lot of work!

When my kids saw the fabric on the floor with the pattern on top, they thought I was going to make a tent for them to play. This is the face of a dissapointed boy.

The Hepburn Proyect

De nuevo por aquí. Me da por rachas.
No sé si conoceis este reto de RHINESTONES AND TELEPHONES. Se trata de crear algo inspirandote en alguna de las dos Hepburn: Audrey y Katharine. A mi me gustan las dos. Mi madre es una cinéfila impenitente y desde pequeñita me expuso a las películas clásicas, desde los años 30 hasta los 60 creo que las he visto casi todas.  Mis favoritas además de estas dos grandes son Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner...solo por nombrar algunas.
Lo mejor de este reto es que no tiene fecha límite. A mi me viene estupéndamente. A ver si para otoño hago otras cositas para Kate.

I bet you know about the RHINESTONES AND TELEPHONES challenge. It is about creating garments inspired by one or both Hepburns: Audrey and Katharine. I like them both a lot! My mother who is mad about the movies has exposed me, since I was very little, to all the classics. From the 30´s to the 60´s. My favourite actreses, style-wise are both Hepburns, Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner...just to name a few.
The best part of this challenge is that it has no dead-line. Great! See if I can sew for Kate next Autumn!

TOP BLANCO Y CORTO & SHORTS A RAYAS

WHITE CROP TOP & STRIPED SHORTS

He escogido dos looks bastante parecidos, la verdad. Top y shorts. Me viene estupendamente, porque aunque me gusten mucho los vestidos en verano, la verdad es que llevo más este tipo de atuendo. Comodidad ante todo.

I´ve chosen two very similar looks, truth to be told. Top and shorts. They come in very handy as that what I usually wear during the summer. I love dresses, but I normally wear them in the afternoons and evenings.

Los shorts son del Burda 6/2011 # 111. Ya he hecho unas cuantas versiones de este patrón. Me gustan porque van hasta la cintura y luego son un poco "evasé"

These shorts are Burda 6/2011 #111. I´ve made three versions of it. I like how they go up to the waist and then they are a bit flared.

La camisa es un "frankenpattern" con mi patrón base de las clases de Craftsy, y los cuello y bolsillos de una camisa de Patrones.

The shirt is a "frankenpatter" with my Cratsy sloper and the neckband and pockets from a Patrones shirt.

Es una prueba de copia de una camisa muy mona que tiene mi hija, quiero hacer una versión en vichy azul y blanco. Las extensiones para anudar han quedado un poco "raquíticas" pero eso se soluciona facil. El resto creo que está bastante bien.

This is a mock version of a shirt I want to copy. It is my daughter´s. I want to make a Vichy version in white and blue. The extensions to knot the shirt are too thin, now that I see the photos. That´s easy to solve. The rest I think is quite nice.

Un detalle de los cuellos y bolsillos. El cuello está arrugadillo porque todo esto iba metido en la bolsa de la playa de cualquier manera...

A detail of the neck band and pockets. The neckband is all wrinkly because the whole outfit was inside the beach bag for a long time. 

CAMISA A CUADROS & SHORTS LISOS

PLAID SHIRT & SOLID SHORTS

Compré esta tela para hacer una camisa a algún hombre de la familia, pero luego me dí cuenta de que me quedé corta de metraje. Bueno, mejor para mi, jiji!

I bought this fabric to make a shirt to a random man of the family but I realized I had not enough. Good for me!

Este es el patrón que usé. El frente y la espalda van al bies, y no lleva pinzas en el pecho, eso al principio me daba un poco de cosilla, pero claro, si la tela está al bies, se adapta mejor.

This is the pattern I used. The front and back are on the bias, and it hasn´t got bust darts, as the fabric adapts to the body when it is on the bias.

Siento no tener mejores fotos, pero esto  es lo que hay últimamente. 

Esta camisa me la he puesto ya un montón de veces.

CONSEJO 2 PARA BLOGI-FOTOS: FOTO-BOMBERS

ADVISE Nº2 ON TAKING PHOTOS FOR YOUR BLOG: PHOTOBOMBERS

Si sois mamás y os haceis fotos con vuestros niños correteando por alrededor (cuando no tomando ellos mismos las fotos) os pasará muy a menudo que se os "cuelan" en las fotos.

Es divertido, supuestamente. Mi consejo: no luches contra eso. ¡Únete al enemigo! Cuando perciben que no te están fastidiando la sesión, si no que acoges su presencia de mil amores porque ellos son más importantes, pierden todo el interés. Ellos son así.

If you are a mum, and you have to take your photos with your little darlings around, more often than not, they´d want to get "in the picture"

It is fun to spoil your mum´s poses!. My advise: Don´t fight them...Join them! Once they perceived they are much more important than your silly photos, they loose all interest and they go catching crabs instead. My word!

Patrones Mono-Short

Le he hecho un mono-short a la niña. Para la playa. Con bolsillos.

Ni ella ni yo estamos muy encantadas, la verdad

I made a mono-short for my daughter. Beach-wear. With pockets.

Neither of us is very excited about it.

Hay algo en las proporciones que no me cuadra. Como que la parte del short es demasiado larga para la parte superior.

There is something about its proportions that is not right. Maybe the shorts part is too long for the bodice.

El patrón es de este patrones, del que ni siquiera he hecho la "review" porque la verdad es que no tiene nada reseñable, pero la compré porque lleva patrones para niñas de 8 a 14 años, y estoy haciendo acopio de tallas de "chavalita"

The pattern is from a Patrones mag that I didn´t review because, really, there is nothing remarkable, but I bought it because of the teenage girls patterns. My girl is growing fast!

La tela es un algodón de TELARIA, muy bueno para coser, y cuyo color de fondo estoy segura que resaltará el moreno de mi niña...¡cuando lo tenga!

The fabric is a cotton from TELARIA, good for sewing, and I think the base colour will enhance Julia´s tan...when she gets one!

Lleva una pequeña cremallera lateral y cinta elástica en la cintura...¿Ya he mencionado los bolsillos? Es que no hay más!

There is a little zipper on the side and a casing for the elastic in the waist...Did I mention the pockets? Well, there is little else to say about it!

Repeating Myself: Vogue 8946 and Tiger

Sabía que lo haría, es que no podía ser de otro modo. Es tan favorecedor y tan cómodo que tenía que caer la versión de manga corta. Os hablo del vestido gris que hice este invierno: ESTE. Pues aquí está: Manga corta, ¡ea! Este es tambien un poco gris si entornas los ojos...

I knew I would, it just couldn´t be otherwise. It is such a flattering, comfortable dress that I needed the short sleeve version. I´m talking about the GREY WINTER DRESS I made in January. It is still kind of grey if you squint.

A las seguidoras de MASUSTAK EGUZKITAN, el blog de la talentosa Maider, les sonará esta tela, ya que fué la que usó para enseñarnos a hacer Leggins, ¿os acordais? ¡Lo contentas que vamos todas con ellos ahora!

 Bueno, pues ella compró la tela en Bilbao  cuando se hizo la quedada a la que fuí yo también y cuando se la ví en la mano le pedí a la dependienta cuarto y mitad para mi, con vistas a este vestido. 

The followers of MASUSTAK EGUZKITAN, Maider´s blog, will recognize this fabric as it comes from the same bolt where she got hers and then used it to show us all how to make our own leggings. We were together for a meet-up in Bilbao last Christmas and I had this dress in mind. 

Como en la anterior ocasion ni forré ni puse cremallera. Como veis de costado los pliegues no añaden mucho volumen.

Añadí una bandita a las mangas y al cuello, para pulir.

As in the last version I didn´t line it or put a zipper in the back. Too lazy, I know. The gathers don´t add a lot of  volume in the tummy area.

I added bands in the neck and sleeves to finish the edges.

Detalle de los pliegues. Al ser una tela mas fina se marcan más y tienen otro efecto que con una tela más gruesa. Lo de las manos es lo que te pasa después de hacer tantos pliegues. Nada, en un par de días se quita.

Pleat detail. Being this a thinner fabric than the one I used on the winter dress the effect of the pleats is different. About the hands: This is what happens after the pleating. Don´t worry! It goes away after two days :)

Hace unos meses fuí la ganadora de un sorteo organizado por Valerie de VALERIE´S OWN SEWING BLOG y entre otros fabulosos patrones gané este de los años 70, un vestido y una chaquetita diseñadas por EDITH HEAD diseñadora de Hollywood por autonomasia.

Some months ago I was the lucky recipient of the de-stashing give-away that Valerie of VALERIE´S OWN SEWING BLOG organized. She is such a talented lady! I admire the way she modificates her patterns to make the fit perfectly. There is a lot to learn from her!
Among other pretty things she sent me this Vogue from the 70´s, a dress and a light jacket designed by EDITH HEAD

Sin muchas costuras (las hice francesas) y terminando el contorno con bies ha quedado mucho mejor que el otro tigre, en mi opinión. Con lo cual me saco una espinita.

Just a couple of seams (French ones) and finishing the edges with bias, I think it looks much better than the other tiger. 

¡Y eso es todo de momento guapas!

Me Made May days 17-24

Muy buenas, ¿Que tal se ha dado el lunes?...¡Ya, que me vais a contar!

 Aquí sigo con el Me Made May. Tengo la impresión que este Mayo tiene más dias que ningún otro año...¡que es que no se acaba!

En fín, que  es muy tarde y no me da el cerebro para mucho.

¡Hala! Ya está terminado el exámen. Creo que ha ido bastante bien, pero hasta el 30 de Junio no tendré los resultados. Así que ya tengo más tiempo y poco a poco me iré poniendo al día con vuestros blogs.
Vamos al tema:

Las Tendencias
He comprado revistas de moda ultimamente (bueno, al menos una, pero venía con otra de regalo ji,ji) y he encontrado unas cuantas tendencias que me encantan o me parecen interesantes, me encantan las faldas con volante en el bajo en todas sus versiones.

Right. Now let´s focus on :

The Trends

I´ve been buying some fashion magazines lately ( mmh, well at least one of them) and I´ve found some of the trends for the season really pretty or interesting.

 Love the flouced skirt in all its versions

Las rayas siempre vuelven en verano...y ¿a quien no le gustan?

The stripes, always making a come back for the summer. Who doesn´t like stripes?

Y el top cortito. Este es interesante...¿Cuánto tiempo ha pasado? Me acuerdo que yo los llevaba de jovencilla, junto con Madonna, Whitney y las chicas de Bananarama. ¡Si no enseñabas el ombligo no eras nadie!

And the cropped top. That´s the interesting one. How long has it been? I remember wearing cropped tops in my teenage years, along with Madonna, Whitney Houston and the Bananarama girls. 

Después de darle vueltas a estos temas me compré uno piqué a rayas y otro blanco y me puse a trabajar.


So I got some white and stripey piqué and set to work.

My Take. Mi Versión

Ultimamente os estaba comentando lo del curso de patronaje en Craftsy, lo bueno que es, todo lo que estoy aprendiendo y bla,bla,bla...pero todavía no os había enseñado que no fuera una muselina. Después de crear el patrón base viene lo divertido. La manipulación de pinzas es muy interesante y estoy deseando terminar de empaparmela bien para pasar a la clase de diferentes tipos de cuello. 

I´m lately going on about Suzy Furrer courses over at Craftsy: how good they are, how am I learning so much..blah,blah,blah..but never really showed you anything made in "real fabric"

After the Slopers, where you get the base for the rest of the courses, comes all the fun. I find dart manipulation fascinating and I can´t wait to get to the different necklines!

¿Lo veis? manipular pinzas es divertidísimo, y puedes crear muchos efectos. Aquí pasé todas las pinzas del top a una "linea de estilo" que va desde el pecho al cuello diagonalmente. En el bajo corte en una ligera linea curva desde el centro del frente donde es más alta hasta el centro de la espalda donde es más baja
La pinzas de la espalda va manipulada hacia el centro abajo, tambien en diagonal para continuar con el estilo del frente.
Aquí podeis ver el puzle que es mi patrón.

See? Dart manipulation is fun! I dumped all the darts into a style line from the neck to the high figure point, then drew a slight curve on the bottom of the pattern that is higher on the center front and continue towards the back in a slight downwards curve.

The back waist dart is manipulated to the center back in a diagonal and the shoulder dart goes into the armhole.

Then I drafted the facings, here is my puzzle for your enjoyment. :)

Admito que me emocioné con la falda. Quería volante y ya lo tengo pero a veces lo que tú quiere no es necesariamente lo mejor para tí, creo que sabeis a lo que me refiero...

Sin embargo, hacer el patrón resultó muy entretenido y didáctico. El volante lleva vistas, para que quedase más levantado. 

I admit I got carried away on the skirt part. I wanted a flounce and I got it, but sometimes what you want is not the best for you.

 Nevertheless, making the pattern for the flouce was very enterteining!

And it has facings for a stiffer look.

Seguro que vosotras, avezadas costureras habeis visto la pifia de la cinturilla. Cuando estaba a mitad de trabajo me dí cuenta de que esta falda no es para mí, demasiado femenina, demasiadas lineas curvas, demasiado corta...¡Vamos que no! Ha estado a punto de terminar en el cubo de la basura varias veces pero la verdad es que me dolía tirar el dinero que gasté en la tela. Y ya sabeis lo que pasa cuando un proyecto no te emociona, que no le pones mucho interés. Ahora tendré que arreglar la pifia y santas pascuas.

Oh, yes! You spotted that lousy waistband closure! When I was half way through the process of making this, I realized it was not a good look on me, too girly perhaps, then the fabric was stiffer than the one I used for the muslin and it was too tight. I opened the seams a bit. Nope. I was about to forget about it and make an A-line instead but thought of the money I´ve spent on the fabric...and I finished it half-heartedly. Now I´ll have to tackle that band!

Y esto es lo que llevé para el MMM ´14 el dia 16...haciendo trampa porque enseguida me quité la falda, me puse unos shorts y una chaqueta y ¡hala, a pasear niños a sus actividades! Si no me la quito igual en lugar de a la piscina me los tengo que llevar a un cocktail o algo así.

And this is what I wore for M.M.M. ´14 on the 16th. Cheating a bit. As soon as I finished with the photos I put on my denim shorts and a jacket and off I went driving the kids to their activities, otherwise I should have take them to a cocktail party or something!
