¿Os acordais de Ester? Comic Bags (But not meant to make you Laugh)

Buenas...
Hace un par de meses encontré esta tela plastificada, o Hule como la llama mi madre, en el mercadillo. Y, como antigua fan de Ester, no me pude resistir. No sabía ni para que lo iba a utílizar.
Creo que no lo he mencionado antes en el blog, pero además de enseñar inglés a mis pequeñitos, soy monitora desde hace varios años en un lugar que me encanta, donde viven un montón de personas a las que aprecio de veras. El Secadero. !Un beso chicas!
¿De qué soy monitora? Pues depende del año: De aerobic, pilates, step, zumba...¡hasta danza del vientre! Este año ha tocado ciclismo indoor, ya sabeis...bici estatica, música y a quemar calorías y esa es una de las razones por las que en verano no me ha dado tiempo a coser...estaba preparandome para esto.
Pero tenía un problema tecnico:
De las clases de inglés, donde me gusta ir bien vestida, voy directa a las clases de spinning. Allí me cambio. Estoy dos horas y cuarto sentada en la bici y cuando termino estoy empapada, pero no me puedo quedar a ducharme y claro tampoco puedo ponerme la ropa "bonita"ni ir con lo puesto y arriesgarme a coger un catarro morrocotudo. Asi que necesitaba una bolsa para llevar un chandal abrigado, una bolsa plastificada para meter la ropa "mojada" y otra para los zapatos.
He utilizado este tutorial que me ha encantado. Os lo recomiendo.

Seems like I´m descending  the sewing skills ladder, but there you go...Bags!
I rather needed them as I had a bit of a technical problem:
You see, besides being an English teacher for little children, I´m an indoor activities instructor. From aerobic to zumba, from Pilates to belly dance, you name it! This year it has become tougher, as I´ve been appointed the Spinning or indoor cycling instructor, one of the reasons this summer I couldn´t sew much, as I was preparing for this (not a fan of bicycles back then)
The thing is that I like wearing nice clothes to the English classes then I go straight to the gym,change, sit on the bicycle for two hours and a half then have to run home for a shower and a kiss goodnight to the kids, no time for shower on the spot, so I needed a big bag to put a fresh tracksuit to allow me get home without catching my death, and a smaller waterproof bag to put all the sweaty clothes until I get home. I also made another for the shoes.
I used a comic oilcloth that I found at the local market and reminded me of the comics I used to read when I was 10.

Con las telas que usé para el top Visions in Blue, le he hecho un top a mi niña, que últimamente está loca con los lobos.

El patrón se lo he hecho yo, tomando como referencia este top de Vogue, tengo que decir que soy muy mala con eso del patronaje. El lobo, los cuellos y puños son de un camisón especial: El que me regaló mi madre para llevar al hospital cuando naciera la niña, hace siete añazos y pico

With the leftover fabrics from the Visions in Blue top I made this top for my girl. She´s very much into wolves lately.

I tried to recreate this Vogue´s pattern, but I admit I´m not good with these things! The details, appliqués, mock neck and cuffs are made from a very special nightgown: the one my mother bought for me when I was about to go to the hospital to give birth to this little lady, almost 8 years ago.

Chuli, ¿no? El conjunto completo lo hice hace mucho tiempo y aunque estoy muy contenta con los pantalones y los llevo mucho, el top no salió bien, sobre todo la parte del cuello. Esta es la versión antigua.

Cute, uh? I made both pants and top a long time ago, and although I´m pretty happy with the trousers, the top was really wrong in the neck area. This is the old version

¿esto que es lo que es, ein?

La parte de atrás. Esas piezas en el cuello eran raras, raras, y las modifiqué un montón de veces. La cremallera no sirve para nada. Cabe la cabeza (a veces creo que mi fontanela no se ha cerrado porque todo me cabe por la cabeza, y tan pequeña no la tengo)

The back side. Those neck pieces were weird from the beggining. I modified them several times. The zipper is useless, the head goes through the neck of the top, no problem.

Pensé que el problema estaba en el patrón así que saqué otro que me pareció mas normal de Burda.

I thought the problem was the pattern so I  traced a similar one from Burda

Y corté el frente en dos

Then cut the front in two.

Esta vez usé un jersey fino, pero la otra tela, la arrugadilla, es malísima para coser. Además en este azul tan oscuro, la diferencia casi ni se aprecia. Ganas me dan de ponerle estrellitas de las que me sobraron por toda la linea de unión, a ver si la cosa se anima un poco

This time a used a proper knit, but the wrinkley fabric was not a proactive one.  To make matters worse, this blue is so dark you cannot appreciate the difference. I´m tempted to use the little stars from the last proyect to highlight the meeting line!

Estrellitas. Star appliqués

Normalmente me entero la última de todo. Podeis preguntar a mis amigas del colegio. Y la cosa ha ido a peor desde entonces.

Esa es la única razon por la que a veces me quedo corta en dar explicaciones. Asumo que vosotras ya lo sabéis, ya lo conocéis y ya lo habéis usado.

Pero como los comentarios estar para algo más que para subir los ánimos costureros me he dado cuenta de que no está de más que le echemos un ojo a las estrellitas.

Yo entré en una mercería buscando vete tú a saber que y como no lo tenían pedí algo para aplicar, algun detallito para el top y esto es lo que me enseñó la chica, las habia de diferentes tamaños, en dorado o plateado, y tambien otras formas, pero yo me tiré de cabeza a las estrellas. 5 centimos por estrella.

Usually I´m the last to know. It goes as far as school days. And it has gone worst since.

That is the only reason why I don´t explain things thoroughly: I assume you already know about it or used it already.

But comments are there for a reason further than boosting your sewing ego, and I realize the stars needed a bit of explanation.

I entered the notions store with some crazy idea in mind, they never have what I ask them for, but then I thought about this top I was making and ask the lady if she had something to spice things up a bit. She showed me this stars in different sizes, you could also choose silver or gold! They were only 5 cts of Euro each! 

They also had kind of studs but I could only see stars at the moment.

Ahora viene la parte mala. Funcionan como una grapa, así que vas a perforar la tela sí o sí.

Now comes the bad part. They work as staples so they are bound to make holes in the fabric

Top Burda 09/2012 #123A

Antes de irme de puente ya  habia terminado este top, que es muy sencillo. La verdad es que no queda mal, pero igual pide unas pinzas en el pecho.

Before going on mini-holiday to visit my parents, I had this little, easy-peasy top finished. The pattern is quite fitted, but I think it would need some little bust darts.

El mismo día de las fotos nos fuimos a un centro comercial de Almeria vestida tal cual. Niños y abuelitos al cine y yo solita a curiosear por alli. Mira lo que habia en Zara, apliques de cuero por todos lados, pantalones de cuero...hice las fotos y me fuí corriendo porque parecia que los maniquíes y yo ibamos al mismo colegio.

The very same day, dressed as I was for the photos, we went to a mall. The children and the grandparents went to the cinema and poor ol me was left to wander around the shops. Look what I found in Zara. There were leather shoulder appliqués, dresses with leather appliqués, leather pants all over the shop. I just took the photos and run. It looked as if the mannequins and I were going to the same school (Rock school, perhaps?)

Le añadí las estrellitas por que le da un punto más macarrilla si cabe.

Y las vistas las he fijado con un pespunte con aguja doble al canto. Al bajo y mangas tambien.

El Mal de Ojo Costurero y Problema Resuelto.Sewing Curse and Problem Solved.

Ya estamos calentando motores para la fiesta de Halloween, esa fiesta tan nuestra, tan de aquí. ; P

Bueno, todo vale si eso sirve para que se diviertan los niños. 

Más de acuerdo con Todos los Santos, el pasado Domingo estuve en Gibraltar. Si alguna vez vais por ahí, no olvideis daros una vuelta por el Jardin Botanico. 

Ya hace más frio y me empeñé en llevar el vestido de flores, y por fín he encontrado el modo de llevarlo para este tiempo. ¡Con chaqueta! Es que yo soy más de rebequita, ;) Pero me gustó el "look" así que se alarga la vida util del vestido.

Halloween is just around the corner, Not a big thing in Spain some years ago, growing on us lately on account of the little ones. 

What we sure do in Spain is visit our cemeteries on All Saints day.  

Last Sunday we went to Gibraltar. The Botanic Garden and the Trafalgar cemetery are a joy to see.

It is colder now but I still wanted to wear my floral dress, and I found a way! with this grey jacket I had for ages, but never use. I´m not a "jacket person" but I´ll make an exception just to make the dress wearable in the cold

Y mirad el complemento de Halloween que me he echado: un derrame en el ojo (¿De tanto coser?) pero como yo soy así de chula, me ha salido con forma de estrella. El médico dice que no es nada, que pasa a veces  y no tiene ninguna relacion pero yo sé que es " EL MAL DE OJO COSTURERO"  Uhhhh! ¡Que miedito!

And just look at the Halloween prop I´ve got! an eye burst blood vessel. And just because I´m so neat I´ve got it in the shape of a star. The doctor says this happens sometimes, not to worry but I know this is the "Too Much Sewing Curse"

Tapeta cuello Polo, paso a paso. How to make a polo placket

Para hacer la Camiseta de Alce las instrucciones del Burda, referentes a la tapeta polo, se volvieron indescifrables. Esto es lo que pude colegir de ellas más la ayuda de un libro en casa, la versión libre, vamos. Seguro que hay maneras mejores de hacerlo. Todo lo que puedo decir es que esta funcionó.

To make the Moose Top , Burda instructions became indecipherable when it came to the placket. This is what I could gather from them plus an old book help, and it turned out quite right. I bet there are other better ways to do it, all I can say is that this one worked

Esto es lo que te da el Burda: el patron de delante, con una guia de por donde hay que aplicar la tapeta (señalada con la flecha) La tela está cortada en el doblez. Y la tapeta, propiamente dicha.

This is what Burda gives you: the front pattern, cut on the fold, with the sewing line for the placket, and the placket pattern.

En lugar de cortar dos tapetas corté una sola, las medidas son de 12 X16 cm, una vez cortado.

Instead of cutting two plackets I made just the one, cutting on the fold .The measures are 4.7 X 6.3 inches. (I cut it a bit longer than the pattern) once  ir is cut and open.

Hay que poner entretela a la tapeta. Yo no deberia haberla puesto porque la tela es de lana y terminé con mucho "bulto". Marcamos el centro y dos lineas paralelas a 1cm que serán las lineas de aplicacion. También marcamos el tope de abajo.

You´ll need to interface the placket. I did and I shouldn´t have because the wool fabric plus the interfacing made this thing really bulky in the end. Then you make three lines: one in the middle,(that would be your cutting line) and two parallel lines 0.4 inches away from it (Stitching lines) Don´t forget to mark the bottom line too.

Ponemos la tapeta sobre el delantero, justo en el medio. Derecho con derecho.

We place the placket on the middle of the shirt front, right sides together.

Y cosemos por las lineas de afuera, teniendo cuidado abajo de que quede bien cuadradito.

You sew it then, following the sewing lines and making a neat square on the bottom.

Cortamos por la linea de el medio hasta 1 cm antes del tope. Entonces hacemos dos cortes hacia los extremos de las costuras de abajo, sin picarlas.

We cut along the cutting line. We stop 0.5 inches away from the bottom then slit it to the corners of the stitching (am I making sense?)

Damos la vuelta a la tapeta y la planchamos. Ahora tenemos esto:

Turn the placket to the inside and iron. It would look like this:

Derecho- Right side

Revés- Wrong side

Ahora ponemos uno de los lados hacia el otro y lo doblamos justo donde se encuentra con él

We take one part and put it on top of the other, and fold the former where it meets the latter.

Y doblamos el margen de costura y lo remetemos: tenemos un rollito de tela, vamos. Lo planchamos, hilvanamos y hacemos lo mismo con el otro lado. Cosemos  a lo largo.

Then we fold the seam allowance to meet the other on the same side and we match them. We have  a fabric roll, basically. Iron and pin or baste. Stitch along the" bulk "

Ahora tienes algo así por el derecho. 

Now you´ve got something like this on the right side

Elige que lado va a montar al otro, por que ahora toca fijarlo abajo con un pespunte

Now choose what side is going to overlap the other, because now we have to stitch it at the bottom 

Aún nos queda esta parte suelta

We still have this loose end dangling 

La flecha finita señala la costura para fijar la parte de abajo

La vertical el cuadrado+cruz para fijar lo lo que está suelto. 

La más grande señala como he terminado yo el cuello, con una cinta al bies, pero tambien está la opción de poner un cuello camisero.

The thin and small arrow points how I stitch the bottom

The almost-vertical arrow shows the square + X I stitched to fix the "dangling" part

The longer arrow points to the finish I chose, with bias tape, but you can also go and make a full shirt collar.

Con lo facil que hubiera sido cambiar el color de la flecha.
It would have been easier to change the arrow colour, duh!
