¡Hala, ya está! Esta semana voy con prisas porque tengo que hacer los disfraces de Halloween así que sin más dilación os presento, para el reto de Mónica ¿Que Prendas Necesito? el vestido formal.

I had to rush this time. I´m in a hurry to make the Halloween costumes, so without further ado, I introduce the Formal Dress for Monica´s Challenge ¿Que Prendas Necesito?

And, yep! With that good-girl  expression it looks Formal in the front.

¡Ah! pero si me agacho la cosa cambia...¡Toma canalillo!

 Pues nada. Podriamos llamarlo "Vestido Formal pilingui style"

So this could be called "The Tarty Formal dress"

"Oye tú: Me mola tu vetido" "No me distraigas que estoy posando"
"Hey you! that´s a groovy dress you are wearing" "Shhh, I´m trying to pose here"

Con este vestido repito patrón, cosa rara en mí. Ya habia hecho otra version que podeis ver AQUI, HERE, pero esta vez en un jersey doble, o Ponte di Roma o como quiera que se llame. Es Vogue 8489

Y el contraste es tambien ponte. Que no pica, no como el otro, que debia ser tela de tapicería o algo y pica mucho.

Me encanta que sea en blanco y negro con ese zig-zag tambien llamado Chevron (eso no lo sabía hasta hace poco, ¡que cosas se aprenden con la costura oyesss!)

I repeat pattern here. I like that silhouette. You can see the whole report AQUI, HERE. This time I chose black and white chevron Ponte di Roma. Unlike the other version, this is not itchy. Besides, it´s not often that I find a non-floral print in the street market!

The pattern is Vogue 8489. 

I finished the hems with black bias tape. I Forgot to take a photo of that!

Me encanta porque tiene mucho movimiento (como ilustran las fotos) y además te puedes dar un atracón de fabada y vas tan estupenda, porque esos pliegues en el frente disimulan tripita. 

En fín, vuelvo a mis jalowines que tenemos que ir de "tricotrí" en menos que canta un gallo.

Creo que la próxima semana del reto, el mono, me lo voy a saltar porque ya me hice uno y ni le hice fotos de lo mal que me sientan esos bichos. Está enterrado, creo, en un armario de mi madre.

PD: Acabo de darme cuenta de que la semana que viene toca el pantalon básico. Metedura de pata! Y me toca coser!

I like it a lot, it has a lot of "movement" and besides you can have a feast and still look good, because those gathers in the front are great for concealing the tummy. Bonus points!

Anyhow! I´ll go back to my very easy Halloween sewing because I have two eager trick-or-treaters wainting for their costumes!

I don´t think I will be sewing this challenge next week. It´s "the jumpsuit". I sewed one once, from Burda and it was so hideous I didn´t take photos of it. It is buried now in one of my mother´s closets...I think!

The Last Dress of the Summer. El Ultimo del Verano. Butterick 4790

Lo prometo. Ni uno maix. Este es el último de este verano. Alguna falda, algún top, pero no más vestidos. Aunque claro, hay algunos modelitos que es que van pidiendo guerra. Seré fuerte!

Supongo que no os acordais de ESTE post del año pasado más o menos por estas fechas donde en un arranque "vintage" me pedí un montón de modelos de los cuales solo he hecho EL DE LAS BALLENAS

I promise! This is the last one for this Summer. Maybe a top or a skirt, but No-More-Dresses!
Then again there are some patterns screaming for it, you know. I´ll be strong!

I don´t expect you to remember THIS post where I told you about my very vintage order to Butterick-Vogue, from which I only made THE ONE WITH THE BONING

He esperado casi un año a que apareciese la tela perfecta para hacer este  vestido. Las telas, que son dos. Y tenían que ser bastante discretas y finas para soportar tanto metraje: 3 y medio

I waited almost a year for the perfect fabrics to come along. I wanted both to be quite understated, there are 3 and a half  meters involved here!

Este modelito fué nombrado Mejor Patrón 2007 por PatternReview.com. Y hay unas 63 versiones del mismo que podeis ver AQUÏ, así que desde luego esta vez no estoy a la última.
Pero da igual. Por fín tengo un vestido Vintage y ¡con falda de capa! ¡La ilusión de mi infacia, hecha realidad! Esa infancia llena de nidos y faldas fruncidas que al dar vueltas parecías una campana... pues ya no tengo que ir al psicologo a quitarme el trauma...Esto de coser sirve para todo!

This was "Best Pattern 2007" in PatternReview.com. There are about 63 versions of it HERE. So clearly I´m quite behind with this.
 Oh, never mind! At last I have my vintage dress and it goes with a Circle Skirt! All my childhood wanting one of these so badly and all I got were smocking tops and gathered skirts... Sewing is cheaper than a psychologist! :D

Here goes my version:

Pattern Description: Three pattern pieces, darted in front and back, with back waist and shoulder seams. Back wraps around to the front for a sheath-and-overskirt look. A: contrast back and skirt. Bias tape finished edges.

Pattern Sizing: 8-22. I made size 12, but because I´ve read all the previous reviews, I measure the pattern on the paper before cutting the size. So glad I did. You don´t have the comfort of the seam allowances to play with in this one as it is finished with bias binding

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yeeees! Very happy about that!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Really easy. The most difficult part for me was hemming the circle skirt, and for that the instructions were very good.
I liked very much finishing the edges with bias binding... once I got the knack of it!

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like everything! Love the design. Everything about this dress is so feminine. And I was wanting to make a circle skirt since forever!

Fabric Used: Cotton

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Yes. I added a little pocket at hip level on the seath part of the dress, to carry the keys or coins :)

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I do recommend it but I doubt I´d sew it again for myself.

Conclusion: I´m very happy with this dress. It is vintage, and maybe not my every day style, but makes me feel very lady-like and feminine.

Descripción del Patrón: Patrón de 3 piezas, con pinzas delante y detras, costuras en hombros y cintura atrás. La parte trasera se prolonga hacia adelante dando el efecto de sobre-vestido. Terminaciones con bies

Tallaje: de la 8 a la 22. Tallas americanas. Yo corté la 12 despues de asegurarme bien, metro en mano, de las medidas finales. Al no tener margenes de costura con la que jugar, hay que asegurarse bien

¿Se parece a la foto, una vez terminado de coser?: Si. Y eso me hace feliz

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles? Facilisimas. De verdad. Lo más dificil fué hacerle el dobladillo a la falda de capa y eso iba muy bien explicado.

¿Qué te gustó o disgustó especialmente? Me encanta el estilo y las lineas de este vestido, es muy femenino. Se cose rápido y una vez que le pillas el truqui a coser el bies vas como un avión

Tela usada: Algodón 100%

Alteraciones al patrón o cambios de diseño: Uno pequeñito: Le añadí un bolsillito a la altura de la cadera, para las llaves, las moneditas...

¿Lo coserías otra vez o se lo recomendarías a alguien? No lo volvería a coser para mi, pero sí lo recomiendo. A no ser que tengas mucho pecho... Entonces este no creo que sea muy adecuado

Conclusión: Muy contenta con el vestido. Yo no soy muy vintage, ni creo que sea mi estilo, pero me siento muy "señorita" con este. (Aunque ya estoy un poco señorona)

Las fotos están hechas en el Cabo de Gata. En esta zona se rodó Lawrence de Arabia y algunas pelis del Oeste. Y nosotros una de piratas, por lo visto. Termina mal, como veis :D

The photos are taken in Cabo de Gata  in Almeria. In this area, they recorded Lawrence of Arabia, many moons ago, and some Westerns too. Seemingly we shot a pirate- movie. It doesn´t end very good for me!

¡Ay, que ilusión me hace esto!
Cuando Miren de Telaria contacto conmigo para hacer una colaboración no me lo podia creer. Toda una bicoca: Me dejaba elegir la tela que quisiera para hacerme el modelo que quisiera.¡ Eso son dos libertades juntas! Como loca me puse a mirar patrones y su web para encontrar una tela que me gustase, y ahí empezaron los problemas: Es que me gustaban TODAS.
Como ya sabeis de mi proberbial indecisión, a la pobre Miren la asé a mails pidiendole opinión y consejo. Porque yo sola saltaba de un blusón playero a un vestido años 30 en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Claro: la emoción...
Hasta que llego esto por correo, entre mi último pedido al Vogue.¡ Ja! Problema resuelto

Gosh, this is very exciting!
When Miren of Telaria contacted me to collaborate in her proyect, I just couldn´t believe it. Such a lucky girl, me! She allowed complete freedom, to choose from all her awesome fabrics to create whatever we felt like. I started looking for patterns and browsing her site, and there the problems began: I like ALL of them fabrics!
And, if you know me a little, you know how indecisive I am, poor Miren had to put up with all my asking and doubts until this arrived on the mail, among my last Vogue order. Problem solved!

Vogue 1350 Rachel Comey

La misma Miren me aconsejó esta tela y en cuanto la ví, me encantó con esas flores tan delicadas sobre el fondo mostaza; pero lo mejor fué cuando la toqué, ¡Que suavidad! He hecho cosas antes con algodón, pero esto no tenía nada que ver: Lo que menos me gusta del algodón es que sea tieso y no tenga caida. Pero este es totalmente diferente. Lo lavé, como aconseja ella para sus telas y me puse a trabajar. Muy facil de cortar, de coser, de planchar. Muy conveniente porque este modelo tiene un par de costuras en angulo bastante dificiles.

Miren herself advised me this fabric, and as soon as I saw it I fell in love, those delicate flowers on the mustard (or is it honey?) background were perfect for the dress. When it arrived home and I touched it, I was surprised by its softness. All the cottons I worked with before were stiffer. I washed it and started to work. Very easy to cut, to sew and iron. Very convenient, as this pattern has a couple of tricky, angled seams.

Colección Bijoux: Bohemian Charms colour Honey

Pattern Description: Lined dress has yoke fronts extending into sleeves, close-fitting bodice with side back seams, raised waist, semi-fitted skirt, side front extends to lower side back, no side seams, mock front bands, and concealed snap closing.

Pattern Sizing: 6-22. I used my usual 12, normally I have to take in the seams. But this was  just perfect. Actually I think I will have to start to watch what I am eating if I want to wear it this summer.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?Pretty much. Mine is shorter

Were the instructions easy to follow?Yes, but there is a lack of explanation when it comes to the most difficult part, that is attaching the yoke-sleeve to the front. Same goes to the side back. I think they should have said that you should reinforce and clip before sewing

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? Love the bodice design. And the skirt front ending in the back. I would have love some little pockets, though. And although I had to sew the snaps several times before getting it right, I like that kind of clean closing on the front

Fabric Used: 100% Cotton . Bohemian Charms colour honey from the Bijoux collection. From Telaria

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I shortened the hem by 7 cm. I didn´t use hammer-on snaps, but the regular ones.
And I had to add an extra hook and eye at chest level.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I´d love to try a colour-block version of this. And yes, I do recommend it. Very elegant. Great fit

Conclusion: This is going to be my Summer 2013 dress for sure. It is comfortable, easy to wear and as it is cotton I feel like I can take it from day to night and look appropiate all along.

Descripción del Patrón: Vestido forrado. Tiene canesú en el frente que se extiende a las mangas. Cuerpo entallado con costuras en el lado-espalda.Cintura alta, falda semi-entallada, donde la parte frontal se extiende a la trasera-baja sin costuras laterales, vistas frontales y cierre con automáticos

Tallaje: desde la 6 a la 22, tallas americanas. Usé la talla de siempre, la 12, esperando tener que entallarlo por algún lado, pero no.

¿Se parece a la foto, una vez terminado de coser?: Si, mucho...pero mi tela es más bonita :) y el mío es más corto

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles? Si, pero escasas en los puntos clave, como coser el canesú al frente y los lados a la espalda.

¿Qué te gustó o disgustó especialmente? El diseño del cuerpo y la falda. Es un vestido camisero diferente. Echo de menos unos bolsillitos de costura, pero al ser entallado igual no es una opción. Aunque he tenido que coser los automáticos varias veces para que quedaran perfectos, me gusta mucho ese detalle y me parece cómodo

Tela usada: ¿Que pregunta? ;) Bohemian Charms Colour Honey de la Bijoux Collection en Telaria

Alteraciones al patrón o cambios de diseño: Ninguno. No me atrevería. Pero sí le corté 7 cm del bajo para que quedara a la rodilla

¿Lo coserías otra vez o se lo recomendarías a alguien? Sí y sí. Me encantaría una versión "colour-block"

Conclusión: Me encanta. Es mi vestido del verano 2013. Elegante y discreto, perfecto por la mañana, por la tarde y ¿está bien llevar algodón por la noche? Pues si es que sí, tambien para la noche.

Vogue 8184. Ballenas a la Vista. Boning!

Es primavera, "ergo" un vestido de flores es una necesidad...absoluta.¡ Después de la falta de color invernal, necesito flores!

Tambien tenía en mente hacer algo que requiriese alguna técnica diferente, así que elegí el patrón Vogue 8184

It´s Spring , therefore a floral dress is mostly needed. After all those months sewing grey I craved flowers!

I was also looking forward to using this pattern specifically because I never sewed boning before: Vogue 8184.

He hecho la versión C sin la banda del escote, no me daba la tela,que es satén de algodón,  y ha quedado un vestido un poco tirando a "pin-up" que seguro que me voy a poner mucho este verano.

I made version C without the neck band for lack of enough fabric, which is cotton satin, and the result is a dress veering on the "pin-up" side that I will probably wear a lot this summer. 

He acortado la falda unos 10 cm, porque el largo más abajo de la rodilla me queda fatal, y también he tenido que meter bastante en la cremallera.

I made the skirt shorter by 10 cm, as the original below the knee lenght was not looking right on me. Also, I had to take in a lot in the zipper area.

El vestido me lo puse a todo correr y se me olvidó poner el corchete de arriba. Es lo malo de las sesiones fotográficas con marido y niños: tienes que llevar la ropa en una bolsita y aprovechar un momento que no pase gente para ponertela. Esta vez estabamos haciendo una ruta, así que la gente me miraba raro. Iba en camiseta y vaquero pero peinada y maquillada como una puerta. El peinado me queda horroroso, como me decía mi marido: ¡Pareces una gamba, todo cabeza!

I put on the dress in a hurry and forgot the hoock and eye. That´s the problem with "photo-shoots" when you are also going for a walk in a semi-wild track with the family: you have to wear the clothes in a bag and wait for the right moment to put all on and take the photos. Some fellow walkers looked very surprised when they saw me in jeans and walking shoes but with the hair-do and my face smeared in make-up. By the way I don´t think this hair-do looks very good on me. As my husband stated when he was taking the photos: You look like a shrimp! All head! 

Pero volvamos a la construcción del vestido: Ballenas.

El patrón pedía ballena recubierta, pero cuando fuí de mercerías me dijeron que lo más aproximado que tenían era esto:

A- Ballena sin recubir, a la que hay que limar para hacer las puntas redondeadas

B- Ballena rara. Se supone que se puede coser por encima de ella y que no hace falta recubrirla. Es bastante más endeble que la A y muy sospechosa...mira como se salen los filitos por arriba. 

Así que usé la A, recubriendola con la misma tela del forro, con espacio suficiente para poder coser el recubrimiento encima de las costuras. 

Back to the dress construction: Covered boning.

When I went to the notions store they only had those two up there.

A- Uncovered boning that you have to file to make the ends smooth and round.

B- Weird boning. They sweared this was the best one, that I didn´t need to cover as I could sew on it, but it looked very suspicious and weak to me.

So I used A and made the covering 3 cm wide, and then sewed it as Vogue intended.

Me encanta el efecto que da al vestido y me gusta mucho mirarlo por dentro :)

I love the effect the boning gives to the dress and I love to look at the inside! :)

Vestido "Jardin Oriental"." Oriental Garden" Shiftdress

Hola a todas!Otro vestidito recien salido del horno. Tuve mis dudas durante el proceso de coserlo, pero aquí está en toda su gloria floripondia.
Para mi este estampado tiene un aire oriental, ¿no? Me enseñó esta tela la dueña de la tienda para que me hiciera unos pantalones, y se me fué la mente al modelito del Burda que ya tenia trazado y cortado en papel, pero para el que no podia encontrar ninguna tela. Al ser el patrón tan sencillo, pedía una tela con personalidad, pero sin ser demasiado chillona. Yo creo que esta en colores neutros con el toque de rojo-anaranjado es perfecto.
La pega es que la tela es un saten de algodón, así que incluso llevandolo con medias y botas, no creo que llegue a ponermelo después del otoño. Igual en plan cebolla, capa tras capa?

Hello everybody.
I´m delighted with my new dress. I had my doubts during the sewing process but here it is in all it´s flowery glory!
Is it just me or this print has an oriental air about it?. I fell in love with it at the fabric store. And thought about the Burda pattern I had already traced but couldn´t find the right thing for it.
 Being the pattern so simple I wanted a very distinctive print but in basic colours, and this fit the bill; but it is cotton sateen so even if I wear it with tights and boots I don´t think this can go further than the Autumn. Layering heavily perhaps?

Pattern Description: Semi-fitted Shift dress with long bust darts, back zipper and patch pockets

Pattern Sizing:  36-44

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Would it look like I´m blowing my own horn here if I´d say it looks better?

Were the instructions easy to follow?  Very easy

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  Love the long bust darts, they seem to give that area a lift! I like the way the shoulders are constructed, sewn around the armholes then closing the shouders in a dart. First time for both. The shape of the sleeves is very nice too. The back is also shaped to follow the body contour.

Fabric Used:  Cotton sateen.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:   I ommited the patch-pockets and made them in-seam.The pattern provides the neck facings and I pondered on the possibility of lining it, but didn´t feel like it. Instead, just to weight the fabric down a little, I binded all the seams with bias tape.
I also ommited the zipper, as I didn´t need it with my slightly stretchy fabric

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?   I recommend it wholeheartedly if you want to try something different.

Conclusion:   Simple and  "trés chic". It has a very 70´s look to it that I just love. It is also very comfortable to wear.

Descripción del patrón: Vestido semi-entallado con pinzas largas al pecho, cremallera trasera y bolsillos de plastrón.

Tallas:  36-44

Se parece a la foto una vez terminado?  ¿sería demasiado presuntuoso decir que está más bonito que el de la foto? Pozí

¿Fueron las instrucciones fáciles de seguir? Si. Para empezar es un "paso a paso" de la revista, con fotos y diagramas a tuttiplen.

¿Que te gustó o disgustó especialmente del patrón? Me han encantado las pinzas. Parece que le dan una subidita al area del pecho. Tambien me gusta como están construidos los hombros. Con una pinza. Ha sido la primera vez que he hecho este tipo de pinzas y me ha encantado.

Tela usada: Saten de algodón.

Cambios en el patrón o de diseño que hayas hecho?: He cambiado los bolsillos de plastrón por bolsillos de costura, poniendolos justo debajo del comienzo de la pinza. El patrón trae las vistas del cuello y estuve considerando forrarlo. Me di cuenta que lo que necesitaba era un poquito de peso, asi que en lugar de forrarlo le puse bies en todos los margenes de costuras, bajo, etc. Tampoco he puesto la cremallera porque mi tela tiene algo de elasticidad.

Lo coserías otra vez? Se lo recomiendas a otras? Os lo recomiendo de corazón. Es facil y diferente y sienta de maravilla. Por cierto: disimula tripita!

Conclusión: Simple y "trés hic". Tiene un aire muy 70´s que me encanta. Y además es cómodo.
 

MI Vestido Burdeos.MY Maroon Dress. Burda 08/2012 # 102

Ya es otoño en mi casa! A partir de ahora ya pueden ir bajando las temperaturas por que yo ya solo quiero coser cositas de otoño-invierno.
It´s already autumn in Chez Moi! From now on the temperatures better start dropping because I´ll be just sewing for Autumn-Winter
No suelo llevar muchos vestidos en invierno porque soy muy friolera, sin embargo este era mi preferido del numero de Agosto y hubo la feliz coincidencia que mi madre llego de Mexico con esta tela que es una especie de crep de lana con algo de elasticidad, con una caida estupenda, que no se arruga, con un color muy "trendy" y encima es obediente con la plancha a la hora de abrir costuras etc...pues, órale!

I´m not usually one for dresses in winter, I´m very sensitive to the cold; however this was my favourite pattern from Burda 08/2012 and there was also the happy coincidence that my mother came back from Mexico with this fabric: A kind of  stretch wool crepe, that hangs well, doesn´t crease, in a very trendy colour, so, Orale!

Lo que me atrajo de este modelo, que se llama Vestido Imperio por cierto, fueron los canesues de la cintura, las mangas y la largura y forma de la falda. Además del cuello pico que creo que es el que mejor me queda

What attracted me from this dress, called Empire Dress by the way, was the yokes, the sleeves and the shape and lenght of the skirt. Apart from the V neck.

Me daba un poco de canguelo no poder hacer coincidir las costuras, que es lo que suele pasar en estos casos, pero me apliqué mucho y lo conseguí. No se aprecia mucho pero ahí estan casaditas,casaditas.

I was a little worried I wouldn´t be able to match the seams, you see: I´m out of sewing practice for the last couple of months, so I put a lot of effort, and there they are matching-little-seams! So proud of you!

Forré el vestido entero, pero Burda solo pedia forrar el cuerpo.¡Ya! y luego en invierno te lo pones con las medias y la falda se pone a trepar por ellas, si es que no se en que piensan!

I lined the dress completely. Burda only asked for the bodice. And then comes winter and you wear the dress with tights and the skirt starts climbing up your tights... Complete lining!

Aqui esta el vestido sin cinturón y con mis pelos de loca.

Y aqui sin pelo y punto. Estuve a punto de no ponerle las mangas, porque tenia una pinta muy elegante sin ellas, pero que narices, me sentia atrevida y audaz! Tambien tuve mis dudas con el largo de la falda: mi zancada es muy larga porque voy con prisa a todos lados, y me imagine que tener la falda bajo la rodilla seria incomodo. He ido al Mercadona y he hecho" 100 metros pasillos"  y ha pasado la prueba!

Here without the hair! I almost didn´t attach the sleeves, the dress looked really well without them, but I was feeling adventurous. Same goes to the length: my stride is usally very long, I was worried that I would feel unconfortable wearing something below the kneecap. But I actually like it!

 Yyyy tambien puedes agacharte a recoger cositas del suelo, dada mi condicion de madre eso es esencial. Por cierto el Van Gogh de encima de la chimenea no es un original :) Fué uno de los deberes madre-hija del cole el año pasado. Trabajé trabajamos como locas con los pasteles

Mangas. No usé las hombreras porque ya tengo buenos hombros de serie, y aunque los 80 siempre tendran un lugar especial en mi corazón, no me gusta llevarlas.

Sleeves. I didn´t use shoulder pads as recomended. My shoulders are broad enough and although I love the 80´s so much, I don´t like wearing them anymore.

Espero que os haya gustado. Una pregunta: alguien sabe por qué blogger no te deja ampliar más que una sola foto?

El patrón es bastante entretenido de trabajar, por el falso nudo. Una vez cortado no se tarda mucho en coser. He tardado más en poner la cremallera y cose los bajos que en cortar y coser... pero eso tiene que ver con la poca gracia que me hacen las cremalleras.
The pattern is quite interensting due to the knot. Once cut it take very little time to put together. I´ve been slow because I´m a zipper procastinator.
