Maratón Telaria: Knits

¡Bieeeen!

Hurray! At last I can show you something of what I´ve been making for TELARIA!
Although Miren invited me as a guest for the " Free Topic" week, I wanted to participate in the other weeks too. I couldn´t find anything suitable for the "Retro" week but for the knits? Oh,yes! My son has been growing a lot lately and his old tracksuits are not fitting him any longer. So I made him one.
You can see all the mum´s creations over at FLICKR

So, tracksuit for Jaime:
I made it with the leftover fabric from ESTA SUDADERA/ V8854, plus some scraps from other Telaria proyects yet to come. Those are RACE FLAG and COCHECITOS ROJOS (red cars)
I added and appliqué with his name in the back, and he likes that a lot!

The patterns I used are Burda 01/2010 #125 A that I used before with fleece...look how he grows!

The trousers pattern is one of the thousands you can find in Burda: Basic, without pockets to avoid any stone-collection. I know him well...

The blue fabric, which is very soft on the inside, was not enough to make the waistband so I used the cars.

Here are the details. A Wolkswagen car silhouette appliqué on the front. I enbroidered the words Haven Coast playing arround with the name of the blog and maritime concepts: Aventuras- aven- Haven and Costuras- Cost- coast. I must get my head checked one of these days :P

I finished this weeks ago and I can say that this tracksuit is in constant rota. 5 minutes in the closet and then worn or in the washing machine.
Have a great weekend everyone and see you next in the "Let´s go to Sleep" week...if not earlier with some other challenge!

¿Que Prendas Necesito? El Vestido Formal

¡Hola amigas!

Hello friends!
I had to rush this time. I´m in a hurry to make the Halloween costumes, so without further ado, I introduce the Formal Dress for Monica´s Challenge ¿Que Prendas Necesito?
The back side is formal...

Formalito, formalito de cuarto de vuelta

Quite formal like this too, isn´t it?

And, yep! With that good-girl  expression it looks Formal in the front.

Ah! But things change if I bend down...That´s like too much cleavage!
I pixelled a bit not to shock you!

Pues nada. Podriamos llamarlo "Vestido Formal pilingui style"

So this could be called "The Tarty Formal dress"

"Oye tú: Me mola tu vetido" "No me distraigas que estoy posando"
"Hey you! that´s a groovy dress you are wearing" "Shhh, I´m trying to pose here"

I repeat pattern here. I like that silhouette. You can see the whole report AQUI, HERE. This time I chose black and white chevron Ponte di Roma. Unlike the other version, this is not itchy. Besides, it´s not often that I find a non-floral print in the street market!
The pattern is Vogue 8489
I finished the hems with black bias tape. I Forgot to take a photo of that!

Y me toca coser!

I like it a lot, it has a lot of "movement" and besides you can have a feast and still look good, because those gathers in the front are great for concealing the tummy. Bonus points!
Anyhow! I´ll go back to my very easy Halloween sewing because I have two eager trick-or-treaters wainting for their costumes!
I don´t think I will be sewing this challenge next week. It´s "the jumpsuit". I sewed one once, from Burda and it was so hideous I didn´t take photos of it. It is buried now in one of my mother´s closets...I think!
See you soon, dears!
P.S. I just realized next week it´s the basic trousers. So I´ll be sewing that. I´m stressed! ;D

Y me he hecho esta blusita.

No me pude resistir.

Hello! For the Challenge ¿Que Prendas Necesito? this week, it was all about blouses or shirts. But frankly, instead of asking myself "What clothes do I need?" it looks that I´ve been thinking about what I DON´T need at all, and made this little blouse. Because, really, am I going to wear a satin blouse in Autumn or Winter? Not a chance!
But you have to understand: I went to the street market looking for cheap black fabric for some Halloween costumes, that they didn´t have, and I saw this beauty...I just couldn´t leave it there!

At first I thought it would be perfect for a kimono kind of thing, but I just can´t see myself wearing one. In public.
I went through every single pattern magazine and, talking to my friend Lupe from Lupencienta, we decided on making a blouse from the last Patrones magazine, which I reviewed AQUI (aqui means here ;)
It´s the blouse on the top right. Look how happy is the model!

The patterns might be new but there is centainly no improvement in the instructions department! I don´t know why I even bother reading them!

What I like the most are the details. See those buttons that don´t button anything with their little loops? Or the bands at the end of the japanese sleeves?

The bottom of the back is shirred. I haven´t make this since my early sewing days. So much fun!
The back slit didn´t turn out very neat but not too bad either.

¡Ah! ¡Gracias, reina!
Pues nada. Encantada que voy con mi blusa innecesaria.
¡Hasta más ver, jasmías!

Oh! And I used some buttons that Alicia from  UNA MODISTILLA DE PACOTILLA  sent me when I won her giveaway!

Alright! So I´m perfectly happy with my very unnecessary blouse.
See you next with the "formal dress" (Another unnecessary thing, but they are soooo pretty!)
Bye for now!

London

¡Hola amigas!

Hello friends! I´ve been threatening to tell you about my visit to London last August. It was a generational trip: my mother, my daughter and me...and we had a great time! My mum and I have been traveling toguether in the past but this year we thought it was time to take the little one with us.

A whole week there is time enough to see a lot of things! We did the Big Bus thing and the boat thing...

Las tiendas, of course.

We hit the shops, (three women, remember :) I went to Liberty´s three or four times and only bought a sewing gauge, can you believe it? I met there the lovely Kathryn, whom I met during the MMM 13. I guess I had the camara hanging on my shoulder but I absolutely forgot to take a picture of us. I just loved listening her talking with her lovely accent and we had very little time as the both my daughter and mother were left alone in another shop, Hemley´s and I was worried they´d got lost.

We did the museum thing: British Museum, Natural History Museum, the Tower of London, the National Gallery...you name it!

And my absolute favourite: The Victoria&Albert Museum. There was an exhibition from which I couldn´t take photos, about the 80´s fashion. Amazing!

Y la niña flipó con los parques. Ardillas, cisnes, ocas...vimos hasta un zorro!

And we visited the parks. My daughter enjoyed it there...oh,yes! Specially the squirrels!

Aaand, I was so very lucky to meet Pauline, from  P´s Thrifty Sewing Blog, I was in awe of her vitality! She is such an acomplished seamstress, she made her own wedding dress along with the ones for her maids and little ones, she sews shirts for her husband...I love her blog! Thank you so much for making time for us!

And after all the London-image-bombarding I have to say that, sewing-wise this trip has been very inspiring. You´ll see when I show you, much much later, what I´ve been making for the Marathon Telaria :)
Have a wonderful week, hey! It´s already Thursday here!

Sewing and Baking.

¡Hola amigas!

Hello friends! I just had the most relaxing Saturday in months: At home with the kids, sewing while they did their homework, then a stroll, a movie and then the little miss and I baked some "magdalenas"(no translation as they are not muffins, nor cupcapes or buns) . The little mister was busy with his Nintendo, but ate them too. So typical.

Estaban buenísimas. They were yummy!
Cinturilla elástica y a correr.

Anyway, this is a sewing blog. So here is what I sewed up this morning:
It´s the shorts-skirt from this book I reviewed AQUI/HERE.
It´s basically a shorts pattern with two rows of frills and then some more on the shorts hem. An encased elastic waist-band and off it goes.

I followed the instructions very carefully, all the measures too, but when I started gathering I realized it was not going to look so cute. The frills (I don´t know if that´s the right word) are not wide enough to give the volume I presumed they will have. And I had no more fabric. This is, by the way, a cotton from my stash that I have no recollection of purchasing...must be getting old!

Vista lateral: mu importante!

The outfit is not very inspired, but that jumper was the only thing that matched, slightly, the colours of the skirt. We bought that one in M&S in London last summer. One of these days I´ll tell you about it
Side view, very important :)

This photo is not to show the poor state of my daughter´s knees but to show you the "shorts" part

Lastly, my favourite, the ribbon. It came wrapping some very nice and very much loved presents for my kids, from my  dear friend Marjorie. They kept the presents and I kept the ribbon, knowing I would be using it sometime. Here it is!

Veredict: Very cute pattern, but more fabric needed on those gathers. Another thing: I MUST learn how to knit because I see this skirt with a green jumper, the same colour as the ribbon.
And that´s all! Enjoy what´s left of the weekend. See you soon!

Falda/Skirt Patrones. Reto " ¿Que Prenda Necesito?"

¡Hola amiguitas!

Hello friends! Mónica challenged us in ¿Que Prendas Necesito?, that is Spanish for "What clothes do I need?" where some of us are sewing a garment each week. I´ve already missed the casual trousers and the t-shirt, so here I am jumping on the wagon with my very, very casual denim skirt.
It took me two days to finish, where this can be easily achieved in a day because I was silly enough to follow Patrones Magazine instructions. They made no sense and I had to rip all the seams and start over again

I wanted a very casual, easy to wear skirt. To run around. And as the last denim skirt I owned has been deported from my closet for its indecent lenght, I needed a new one. One in which I can bend over and not show my underwear.
I knew it had to be this one.
This is Patrones number 292. I think is from 2010. Pattern number 13 (I should have taken that as a sign)

There is not much to say about it. A straight skirt with two front pockets, back yoke and shaped waistband. That is one of the things that I love about Patrones: their waistbands!
I partially finished the skirt with bias binding

Here is the front-side-back view.
I went to take the kids from school in this one (minus the high heels) and it passed the test. Mind you: the school is on a hill....

Details: The pocket lining. It is a scrap from the proyects I just finished sewing for the Marathon  Telaria.
I´m so looking forward for it to start!

Pues nada. A ver si llego a la camisa.
Gracias Mónica por estos retos. Besos a todas y buen fin de semana.

Next for the challenge would be the shirt or blouse. But I´m not so sure about that one!
I thank Mónica for inspiring  us to sew with her very informative posts.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Patrones se ha Renovado. A New Patrones Mag

Surprise, surprise! After years of repeating the same patterns over and over, Patrones has something new to offer (or so they say)

Looks like they realized it was about time to add something new...I can see them with a facebook profile very soon!

These are the models:

I have the impressio they want to look a bit like Burda. They also have a section about customizing.

Just like Burda they compare catwalk dresses to their own:

It looks like they are asociated with Ribes&Casals. In this blouse and skirts section, they give us options of their fabrics with prices and all!

Tallas grandes con consejo sobre ropa interior

Big sizes with underwear advises

A girl´s coat and two knitting proyects for baby...aren´t they cute?

And lastly an easy proyect, an apron, and a sewing class...These guys have been working!

So I had to take it home!
Bye for now!
